How do i get itunes 11 to display my album art while in list mode like it did in the previous version?

I think the Sidebar preview image is gone. But found that when I'm playing music either from the entire library or a playlist you can click the tiny thumbnail at the top to open a Artwork based player that is scalable. Reduce (minimize) the main Itunes window and the player is actually Nice.  Hope that helps.

  • I would like for Firefox 4 Beta to save my session like it did in the previous version, how do I set this up?

Normally when I would close Firefox 3 I would be asked if I wanted to save my session, now in 4 Beta it simply warns me about closing multiple tabs, but I want to save my session.

I have an easy fix for you guys ... more faster.
The solution of mark2 ALWAYS save your session, this one is asking you, like for firefox 3.6
Go to 'about:config', then search for 'browser.showQuitWarning' and set it to 'true'.
    Have fun.

  • How can I get iTunes to display the tracks from a CD in their original (album) order?

To be absolutely honest, I don't really understand what this box is for, so I shall just use it to repeat and expand on my question. (I have already sent a "Feedback" comment on the same topic).
How can I get iTunes to display the tracks from a CD in their original (album) order?
It seems to me that there is something very basic wrong with the way iTunes handles CD Tracks.
Professionally produced CD tracks are seldom if ever in a randomised order. Why then does iTunes seem unable to display the tracks in the order they appear on the original CD source - whether from a personally owned CD or from a download from the iTunes Store?
Some music demands a specific, non-alphabetic sequence in order to make sense. Why does it seem that iTunes only offers Alphabetic, or reverse alphabetic order - both of which make a nonsense of the original, often intended order of tracks?
Why not replace the so-called "cover-art" in the bottom left hand corner if the iTunes window - which, while it may look attractive to some, gives the barest of information concerning the original disc, with a list of the original CD tracks in their original order, so that the user can easily reestablish the order in which they should be played.
As I would expect legibility might be a problem with doing this, why could not the original contents, (in their original order), at least, be displayed when the "cover art" is double clicked-on - the result of which at present gives me an enlarged version of the "Cover Art". While on the subject of the contents of the source disc, what about all the album notes which someone takes trouble to write in order to increase the appreciation of the music on the CD and the listener's general background knowledge of the artists involved. Such notes, it seems to me, have considerable intrinsic value in their own account. I would, I think, normally be prepared to buy such "Sleeve notes" - so long as a "taster" was supplied (as it is for the music) - for something like the cost of a single 'Tune" on iTunes.
These two aspects let Apple iTunes down enormously, in my opinion. I think that by chopping even quite protracted sequences of music up into bits does no one any favours - except perhaps Apple's already quite substantial bank balance. People have to be aware that two and a half, to three and a half minutes is a very short time to develop a piece of worthwhile music, and that there are many, many composers, not all of whom are alive today who have written music that huge masses of mankind value for the enrichment of their lives and the human condition in general.
Please make the viewing of iTunes tracks in their correct order by default possible. By all means have the alphabetical variations available as offering a different approach to the music, but not the sole approach to it - PLEASE.
    Frustratedly yours
    Alan Whitaker
PS I work at my old 24" iMac Intel Core 2 machine which runs OS "Tiger" - because it is more beautiful to look at, the screen is more pleasant to work on, and because, in some ways it is more capable (it will run FreeHand MX without needing a "patch"), than my more recent 21.5" which runs "Snow Leopard". (I don't find it that much slower, either).

    Dear Mike
Thanks for the support. I am utterly amazed that after all the hype about how good iTunes is that it cannot play a downloaded CD in the correct order, and that what that order should be is not available directly from within one's own iTunes installation. (I know that one can go back to the iTunes Store to check what the order should be, but having downloaded the tracks surely iTunes is clever enough to retrieve this important information.
My iTunes to differ from yours in that I have also noticed that it seems unable to download copies of my "talking books" in the correct order either. But in my case it downloads them - from a CD - in order, but with the first track downloaded first - so that it appears at the bottom of the column of tracks so that it would get played last! (At least this is, while being inexplicable, a relatively "logical" bit of blundering and because of this is relatively easy to put right!).
I like many genres of music, some of which are not really programmed except perhaps by the artist performing them. I know that Frank Sinatra was very careful to programme his album songs to obtain a particular effect and in relation to the keys of the music. iTunes presumes to know better.
Film scores may be totally randomly put together, in some cases, but in others the order is vital to one's appreciation of the music as a whole and how it relates to the plot of the film.
In symphonic music most works are divided into sections and are conceived by the composer that way. Some individual sections may gain a life of their own if played separately, but they are never complete in the sense that the composer envisaged them without being placed in their proper context.
Opera and probably most choral music too, is similar except that the words may well become meaningless if the order is changed at the whim of a piece of ill-written computer code, while ballet music has to be heard totally within its sequential context or it becomes meaningless.
Finally, I would venture that iTunes, by jumbling up the order of the tracks as recorded on a CD, does an immense disservice, not only to the music on a particular CD, but to music in general, by expressing everything in terms of "Songs" - which it seems to interpret as stand-alone items of between 2 and 4 minutes whatever the genre. Even the way the iTunes publicity speaks of how many "songs" it can store instead of how many minutes or hours of recorded sound. This has to be another brick in the wall of "dumming-down" of people's expectations, and the shortening of their attention spans.
I don't know about anyone else, but I feel betrayed by Apple over this. Perhaps the look, feel and general presentation of an item are not the most desirable features of a consumer product. Maybe it should be judged more on it fitness for the purpose for which it was sold. There is one other possibility - that Apple are trying to redefine "Music" - and that everything that lasts longer than about 3.5 minutes or is in the form of what could for want of a better term be called symphonic in the broadest sense is something else - not "Music" within Apple's new definition, at all!
Well that's off my chest! now I can get down to creating some sort of order in my iTunes Libraries, knowing that I have to reconsult all the sources in order to confirm the source playing order.
Anyway thanks again. At least I know that it is not just me

  • How can I get itunes to play one album from start to finish, especially when there are different artists on it?

How can I get itunes just to play albums from beginning to end? Often if an artist has a guest artist, or there are 'various artists' on the album, it stores them all separately, so listening from beginning to end becomes not one click away, but a multitude of clicks away just to make a play list which returns the album to its original state. Why can't Apple do this as a default?

If your music is sorted by "Albums", even a compilation is a single click.
'various artists' on the album, it stores them all separately,
That happens when you sort your music by "Artist".

  • How do you get Itunes to sync an album that exists only on the iPad?

Easy enough to sync iTunes albums to the iPad, but how about albums that currently exist only on the iPad? How do you get iTunes to import photo albums it doesn't currently know about? For example I have an app that saves it's files to an album called 'Saved'. I want iTunes to make a local computer copy during 'sync'. I was transferring files from the iPad to the computer via WiFi, but at least on my iPad, WiFi is extremely unreliable, often dropping the connection during data transfers. I finally gave up and decided to do this via USB until Apple gets their act together.

Easy enough to sync iTunes albums to the iPad, but how about albums that currently exist only on the iPad?
If you are transferring photos from iPhoto on your Mac, you mean the iPhoto albums that are available to select under the Photos tab for your iPad sync preferences? if so, this is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPad.
iTunes does not handle the import of photos from your iPad, which can include photos imported from a digital camera or from a digital camera's storage card with the Camera Connection Kit, or a photo saved from a received email, from a website, or by a 3rd party app that is capable of saving a photo in the same location.
It sounds like the app developer has allowed for transferring photos saved by the app in the app's "Saved" area to your computer via an available wi-fi network that both your computer and iPad are connected to. Unless the app developer allows for saving the photos from the app's "Saved" area to the same location where a photo saved from a received email or from a website is stored, there is no way to import these photos via iPhoto or the Image Capture application on your Mac, which is used for importing photos, not iTunes.

  • How does one make very large brush strokes of several inches wide. I could do this in the previous version of Apurture.

I just upgraded my Aperture app but now it will not allow me to make inches wide brush strokes when I need to lighten, darken or other adjustments. In the previous version I could make inches wide adjustments. I really need to do this again. How can I do this?

The brush size is measured in pixels.  The maximum is 1,000 px.  If you have any pixel-filtering turned on, the maximum size drops to 200 px.  In the Brush HUD, make sure "Detect Edges" is un-checked, and that "Brush Range" is "All".

  • How do i get itunes to display my library (which is on an external hard drive)?  It worked OK on old PC, but not new my new laptop.   They are M4A files. are

My itunes library used to be on a PC - but shortly before the PC went to PC heaven I transferred the library onto an external hard drive.  It worked fine.   Now I have a laptop - but I can't get itunes to pick up the library location.   I have changed in advance preferences, but the library does not display.  I have tried holding down shift when starting itunes - but when I do that it looks for *.itl files, and all my files are M4A files.  What do I do next?

You mean you transferred the media, not the library...
Now I have a laptop - but I can't get itunes to pick up the library location
The library location is in your /Music/ oflder.
Your media files (not yet in your new iTunes library ) is on the external drive.
I have changed in advance preferences, but the library does not display.
Because you have not yet added anything to your library.
    Quit iTunes.
On the external, create a new folder named My iTunes library (or something).
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select My iTunes library on the external.
Go into Windows Explorer and move all the media files on the external into /My iTunes Llibrary/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.

  • How can I get ITUNES to display manually added artwork for each song regardless of the album name?

I have been manually adding artwork to my songs. When I click the Show Artwork check box, it doesn't show the cover art. For example some greatest hits albums have different cover art per track. ITUNES picks one of the cover art and shows it for the entire album grouping.
Anyway around this? I want the added cover art to display per song.

The artwork of each individual track does display during playback, in the small thumbnail at the top of the iTunes window, or at the left of the MiniPlayer control (opens by clicking the thumbnail), or the larger artwork panel that is shown if you click on the Show Large Artwork control in the MiniPlayer. It should also display on any iPod or iOS Now Playing view.
The Up Next list uses the album art (usually cover of the first track) for everything from the same album, which is perhaps a shame, although in general one artwork per album makes sense.

  • How do I get iTunes to automatically drop files from it's list that I have deleted?

When I delete files (such as podcasts) for soeme reson iTunes does not see that it's gone. The file stays on the list oniTunes with a ! next to it as well as on the iPod. Is there a setting that will fix this issue?

For the benefit of anyone else who reads this thread, looking for help...
iTunes manages all those simple tasks so that human beings can think about, and get on with, making the more interesting decisions in life. Reliving us of the drugery of life's chores is what computers are best at.
iTunes can remember the number of times any song has been played. While I personally don't worry too much about that, I do use the play count to manage my Smart Playlists.
ITunes offers Smart Playlists, where you set the rules and then iTunes adds and removes songs from the playlist for you, according to those rules. When a Sync (between iTunes and the iPod) takes place, the Playlists on the iPod are updated for you, which means that you don't have to manually move songs in and out of Playlists. (See my use of the iPod, below.)
iTunes can display your Music Library in many different ways, allowing you to find any particular piece of music in your Library, sort that music and generally manage your Library.
iTunes can list songs in last played order, so consider the following scenario: the iPod is connected to the car stereo, but as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, you are unable to find out the name of the song playing, because you're busy driving. But if you make a note of the time the song finishes playing, or a note of any other song played just before or after, then after the next Sync of the iPod with iTunes, it's then a simple task to get iTunes to list the Last Played times and you can easily find the song that you were interested in. (This happens to me all the time with new albums.)
Everyone has their own preferences for how they listen to their music. iTunes makes it possible to choose the options that suit you, as an individual.
If ever your iPod gets so confused that it needs to be restored, all content is removed from the iPod when you perform a Restore function (using iTunes). After the Restore has been completed, iTunes will put your Library back onto your iPod for you. So within minutes, a very large Library, complete with your Playlists, is added back to your iPod. You could not do that manually without missing out some of your choices or making errors.
When you replace your iPod, either as a result of updating to a newer model, theft or breakage of your old iPod, or simply because it's worn out, iTunes will put your Library onto your new device and you will have all your choices available immediately.
For my own use of the iPod and iTunes, I like to listen to a varied selection of songs, from different styles and moods, but without knowing what's coming next. To this end, I have a Smart Playlist which automatically compiles a playlist of songs, by looking at other Playlists and that fits my preference very well. When I Sync the iPod with iTunes, that Playlist is automatically updated, and songs that have been played are removed from the list. New songs are added. Some songs are left out of that Smart Playlist for:
    2-star rated songs, thireteen months
    3-star rated songs, 5 months
    4&5-star rated songs, 4 months
unrated songs, not played for 14 months, 50 songs only added to this list
...and 80 songs I have never played are added to the list
It's like having my own radio station, with my own personal choice, not that of a music streaming service, and I never get "bored of hearing the same song too frequently". Imagine managing that manually!
Of course, none of this may be enough for some people. It's a free world, choose an alternative make of media player. There's no need to come here and moan about iTunes though, we don't need to know.
I would be curious to know what came first. Tossing the iPod into a box, or creating this thread.

  • How to I get iTunes to merge partial albums into a complete album?

When I've brought a single before the album was out the album then lists all the tracks but not the single(s) already in itunes.
For example I have all tracks but track 3 is missing and displayed and played as a single and its missing if i play just the album.
Real example: I have Muse's album Black Holes and Relevations, brought Supermassive Black Hole before the Album. Now I have Black Holes as a single and tracks 1,2 4-11 but no track 3. So when I play the album either in iTunes or any of my apple devices it doesnt have a complete album.
I have a few of these uncomplete albums, it is very annoying!
Any ideas what i can do?
I have been to the iTunes store online and it already says i have purchased the missing track so it recognises that I have brought it but won't put it in its right place!
    Thanks!

    The song is tagged differently.
Right-click (CTRL-click) the single > Get Info > Info and make sure the fields are the same as the fields for the songs in the album except for the name and track number.

  • How do I get Itunes to play an album in order if some of the songs are duets? For example, if I'm playing an album by "John Doe" and track

How do I get stupid Itunes to play an album in order if some of the songs are duets? For example, if I'm playing an album by "John Doe" and track #3 is a duet w/ "Jane Doe", it treats it as a separate album! What can I do

    Hi
    All my tracks are MP3.
In List View, I do not have an Album column I have an Album by Artist column.  If I click on this column the albums look right in the playlist on the screen but when I burn to the CD the tracks are not in one folder per album instead they seem to be in folders per Artist then Album, which as one of the albums is a compilation has created about 30 folders.
If I switch on the 'Sort by Album' column it burns the disc as I expected.

  • How do i get itunes to find new albums

i brought the new wwe album today and put it in my pc to copy it to my ipod but when i loaded itunes up it wouldnt find the tracks or the album, so i went on to windows media and it found it straight away how can i do this on itunes

Is this a commercial CD or a CD-R burnt on another computer? If it's a CD-R from another computer the track names will be seen as Track 01, Track 02 etc. and the information has to be keyed in again by hand. For commercial CDs, you have to connect to the internet as iTunes picks up the track information from an online database. It will do this automatically if you are connected while you are importing or you can do it afterwards by connecting to the internet, highlighting the tracks and going to Advanced>Get CD Track names: iTunes for Windows - If you don't see the names of songs

  • I suddenly lost all my access to my songs.  I have them on an external drive.  How do I get iTunes to recognize my external drive as my library source like it always has been?

I was using my iTunes Library and it is now gone.  I have my songs stored on an external drive.  I checked the connections and they seem OK.  I can't get the iTunes screen to show the sync button nor find my library.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

Was the media solely on the external library?  If so, it is likely that iTunes was started at some point with the external drive unaccessible.  Simply point iTunes to the correct library location.  To do this, close iTunes.  Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes.  When prompted to find library or create a new one, select the find option and point iTunes to where the iTuneslibrary.itl file is at on your computer (or external drive).

You are mispelling the url address. Specifically it is not "htt" it should be "http" then the remainder of the address.
