How do I get LabVIEW 5.1.1 to allow entry of Japanese text in Windows 98?
I have a file with the english text converted into Japanese, but the only font in LabVIEW is WP Japanese and the characters do not copy correctly from the translated file to LabVIEW. Where do I get a Japanese font, or any other method to do this. The translated file only views properly in Netscape.

LV currently gets its language setting info from the system. You will
want to either run your english LV on a Japanese system, or run it on
Win2000 or NT where I think it is easier to change the system language.
LV currently cannot use a Japanese font properly if it isn't running on
a Japanese system. Once running on a Japanese system, you should be
able to copy/paste like normal.

Go to Settings>Notifications and turn alerts/sounds on for the app(s) in question. Not all apps have all options.

How can I get Firefox to NOT use DDE? If I uncheck it in Windows XP "Folder options" it keeps getting re-checked. When checked, it takes minutes to get Firefox to open on a page linked from Outlook.

Are you aware it only syncs iMessages. Also once enabled only new messages will sync, try messaging the user from the Mac and see if that gets things going for you. -

Is it possible to get the full current path in the title bar of a
terminal window? I would find that more meaningful than
"Terminal - tcsh - 80x60" (which I currently get). Doing
this would free me from wanting to display the path in my
system prompt thereby allowing me to use a shorter prompt
and having more space on the line for actual input.

Your terminal prompt is a concatenation of your computer name (SysPrefs->Sharing—easily changed) and the path to your user's home directory using the short username (hard to change).

How do I get LabView to communicate with HP4142B, using GPIB?
I have a PCI-GPIB card from NI and running Labview 6.1 under Windows 2000.
I have trouble to communicate with a HP4142B.
Every time I send a GPIB-command to the 4142B I get an EABO error. The instrument seems to receive the command
but does not give any answer. There may be some trouble with the EOS character but I don't know how to correct it. Communication with other instuments (i.e. HP34401A) works without this problem together with LabView.
I have also tried to send commands with the NI-488.2 program but the EABO error remains.
First I thougth that HP4142B has got a HW error but then I sucessfully used a program called "HP VEE".
The instument then worked without any trouble so there must be someth
ing else that is incorrect.
It is important for me to get the HP4142B to work with LabView and the PCI-GPIB card so I hope you can help me solve my problem!

This sounds like a classic case of missing termination characters. The termination characters should be specified in the instrument's user manual. HP VEE is probably adding certain termination characters by default. Common termination characters are a carriage return, a linefeed, or both. In LabVIEW you can easily add termination characters to a string by right clicking on it, selecting / codes display, typing in a /r or /n at the end of the string. Alternatively, if you are using the regular 488.2 VIs (not VISA), you can specify different modes on the write commands. Each mode corresponds to the termination methods/characters that will be appended to the command. See the LabVIEW detailed help on the GPIB write VI for more information.

How do I get labview for linux to send out ascii code to a motion controller?
I have posted part of this problem but I will now try to clearify things. I have an x-y stage that needs motion control. I have to run the motion controller from within a linux system (RedHat 7.1) due to others in the research area. I have found a motion controller card (PCI) that will run under linux. This card is not National Instruments. I understand that they do not have drivers for their controller cards. This other card comes with the companies own software that uses ASCII codes to move the motors on the stage. I was hoping to create a program that could call those ASCII codes to move the stage. An example would be if a user wanted to have the stage move to the right he would press a b
utton on the screen instead of typing in whatever ASCII could that move to the right happens to be. How would I go about programming something like this? Look in the manual to see get familiar with the sequences of codes you
need to write, and more importantly, where you write them to. I suspect
a memory location, but it could be a socket or port.
Each of these locations will have a slightly different way of accessing
it. Once you know, search devzone for how to do it on linux, or post
back here.
After you can send the codes to the right location, you probably want to
build a state machine that simplifies the interface and prevents certain
actions from taking place. Now determine which buttons or
keys perform
which actions and use either the event structure or the older polling
for control changes to affect state changes in the state machine.
I'm summarizing here assuming that you know what a state machine is and
why you'd want to use it. If I'm assuming too much, do some research
and post again with more specific questions. Also be sure to look at
example VIs as they show how to respond to UI actions.

LabVIEW 6.0 to 6.1 is a paid upgrade. You can't get it for free legally.
That said LabVIEW 6.1 is not shipping anymore and you would better
upgrade to 7.1 as that upgrade costs actually the same.
