How do I get Logic Pro to recognize Yamaha Motif Rack XS MIDI Sounds

I have connected my Yamaha Motif Rack XS Tone Generator to the Logic Pro computer via USB and have installed the latest Yamaha Driver on the computer, as well.  I have enabled the USB TO HOST terminal of the Yamaha Motif Rack XS.  I am not able to find any trace of the Motif Rack in Logic Pro.
Has anyone successfully set up the Motif Rack XS with Logic Pro?

Make sure the power is off the irig and then plug it in.
took me a few tries, restarting the computer etc.  brand new Mavericks 13"
Now it seems to recognize it on the computer as an input.
Logic seems to be listening to it (when I jiggle the cable)
but I still can't get a mic to work....
I'll let you know...

  • How I can get Logic pro 7?

I have used Logic since the day it was "born" till version 5.5 (on Pc). Now I bought Logic pro 9  (& Mac...) and succeeded to load songs from version 5.5
but when I loaded songs from former version, I think 4.0, I have got a note says that I need version 7 to convert them.
What am I suppose to do?

Thanks, but the subject was "How can get get Logic pro 7?"
I mean can I get it from apple free as a logic 9 user? or there other way?

  • How do I get Logic Pro to work?

I finally believed all the hype about Mac being better and gave in. I got a MacBook primarily to use GarageBand and Logic Pro, which are the programs I also use in class. I go to set up Logic Pro. Everything goes smoothly until I try to open the program and I receive this message:
"You can't use this version of the application Logic Pro with this version of Mac OS X. You have 9.0.0."
Please tell me there's an easy way to fix, upgrade, etc. this - without having to purchase anything additional. This was not a cheap enough computer to just accept the fact that the features I wanted most may or may not work or be the right programs after installation.
    Thanks.

GarageBand is a stripped down, basic, user friendly DAW based on Logic. If you are buying Logic Pro, use Logic Pro. It's a professional application, with a leaning curve.  Why buy logic pro if you plan on using GarageBand anyway? Take the time to read the manual, read/watch tutorials, and read others questions on forums.
GarageBand is meant to be able to open, and use easily and immediately by anyone with a mac. Logic pro is the opposite.
My advice: ask yourself what you need in logic pro that GarageBand can't do for you? If all you want or need is more AU plug ins, you might consider buying instrument plugins and continuing to work in GarageBand.
However, if you find the power and features of GarageBand limiting (which some would pretty much off the bat), then it's def work it to put in the time and energy into learning logic.
My shorter answer would be: all the garage jam packs you get w logic pro you could use with GarageBand.
As far as logic's drum sampler and synths etc...... See my longer answer. If you're spending the money on logic, and want to use logic's synths etc you prob want to spend the time learning it, as GarageBand doesn't play in the same league as logic.

  • How do i get logic pro x if all i have is a serial number

I go to an audio school and today we were given MacBook Pros. Along with the MacBook was a serial number for Logic Pro X. Where do I go to enter my serial number to download the program? Thanks.

There is no serial number for Logic Pro X as it doesn't use one....
    So....
It's not a serial number but a Content code for LPX that you redeem in the Mac App Store...

  • Logic Pro X and Yamaha Motif XS8

    Hi anyone...
I've not been impressed with the way my Motif XS8 interfaced with Cubase and am considering moving to Logic Pro X. Before I make the commitment to a) move operating system (Windows to iOS), b) purchase the new DAW and c) buy a Mac... can anyone advise on the following points?
1     Is the Yamaha Motif XS8 available as an 'external instrument' so that I can select from Logic which of the hundreds of voices plays on the XS8?
2     Is it possible to record audio and MIDI onto Logic from the XS8, and will I need an interface of some sort between the two?
3     How straightforward is it to hook the two up and get going? (I want to make music, not spend hours configuring stuff)
Any support, advice or opinions very much appreciated...
    Paul

How have you connected your Motif to your Mac?
Midi both ways?  (What interface are you using?)
Are you using an external Instrument track in Logic to record and send midi data to and from Logic?
How are you recording the audio output of your Motif?
Have you conntected the audio output of your Motif to audio inputs of an audio interface (again if so, which interface) and created a Audio track in Logic to record the audio output?
You do realize that Midi is not audio yes?

  • Logic Pro 8 and Yamaha Motif multipart editor

    Hello,
I would really appreciate any help on this matter. I'm trying to connect my motif rack es to Logic and i've been scratching my head for last hour or so. My multipart editor is running - i can control it with my 01x, everything seems to be fine - the MBP, 01x and motif communicate ok, but.. How do i set which channel I want to use in Logic? Do I use a external instrument track? Do I have to get into the environment and mess with that? Seems hard comparing to Cubase... I know it can't be that hard, it's probably my inexperience with Logic. Any help would be nice

follow this thread over @ motifator.com. It's specific to Logic 7, but the principles will "close enough" to solve this for you.
    http://www.motifator.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=1,2,4&Board=Logic&Number=308847 &page=5&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
I've an actual ES8 instead of the Motif ES Rack. Seems like you have mLAN running otherwise you can't talk to the o1x... Am I correct on this? Are you using USB to talk MIDI between the mac and the ES Rack? if so, then you should be able to get this running. How are you getting audio from the ES Rack into the mac?
The regular ES exposes 8 virtual MIDI ports when using the USB port for everything that's not audio. I've got port 1 for regular note/on off data. My ES also works as a controller for Logic, so that's on a different port (4, I believe). The Multi-part editor would go on 3, although I don't use it. Port 2 (again this is a virtual MIDI port, not "channel") was reserved for for plug-in synth cards (with the classics and ES had room for in them).
Anyway, I glanced at the thread I just pointed you at and enough of it seemed architecturally the same as what I do here with my ES that I think you'll be able to get your rig up and running following the instructions from over there.
As for using an external instrument track, yes, I think you would. If you actually need to get into the environment, it'll be all of 5 minutes there to create a multi-instrument object for your ES rack. Essentially you just "click it into" the environment, then enable all the MIDI channels for it. That's pretty much it (and described in the thread).
Compared to Cubase, it's not so much "hard" as that Cubase, which is a product produced by a company owned by Yamaha, and is tightly couple with the studio connections initiative (Yamaha innovating with Yamaha - that's easy). The logic integration with the Motif just isn't as tight, but Logic itself will most likely wean you away from the Motif a bit. I mean I love my ES, but I'm no longer surprised if I have a project that ultimately didn't use any sound from the ES itself, it's just easier to grab a different softsynth and benefit from the tight integration between AU softsynths and Logic. Theoretically, Yamaha could have written an AU-compatible "wrapper" around the whole Motif line that would have given all of us Studio Connections-equivalent functionality, but they were doing their own thing, and Apple theirs... Unfortunate...
Post back if you're still having problems, but the essence of your question is more specific to the ES Rack, and the Motif users over at motifator.com are good support and good folk too.

  • How do i get MacBook Pro to recognize an iRig as an input device?

I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina running Mavericks with the combo headphone-out/mic-in port.  I am trying to connect an iRig using this port to track guitar in Logic or GarageBand but when i plug in the iRig it is only seen by the computer as a headphone out (there is no line input or external mic detected). This same iRig works flawlessly on my iPhone so i know it is not broken.  Similarly, i plugged my iPhone earbuds-with-microphone into the port on the MacBook Pro and it recognizes both the headphones and external mic so the port seems to work ok.
    Any ideas????

  • How do I download Logic Pro to a macbook with no disc drive if I previously bought the disc version?

so basically i bought logic pro 9 a while ago when it came out, and i have it in disc-form. i am thinking of getting a macbook air, or the new macbook pro's which have yet to be announced that will probably have no disc drive.
how can i get logic pro 9 onto the computer without a disc drive? is there a way to input a serial on the App Store and just download it without it making me pay?
any help on this is appreciated.

You can purchase the external USB optical drive. It's an accessory purchase you can make when you buy the MBA. Or you can clone the DVD to a USB flash drive if you have a computer now with an optical drive.

  • How can I get Log Express to recognize my external keyboard? - NEWBIE

I'm using a Lexicon Lambda phantom powered converter (I think that's what it's called) to run my Left and Right 1/4" cables to, from my Kurweil master out. Then the USB cable from the Lexicon out, to the Mac. How do I get Logic Express to recognize the Kurzweil so I can record the Kurzweil's on-board sounds rather than using it as a Midi controller?
Very new to Logic and all of this-any help is appreciated in layman's terms.

OK - got logic to recognize the Kurzweil keyboard on a new track, I can hear the on-board Kurzweil piano sounds, but Logic is not recording it. what gives?

    Hi,
You'll need to make sure that both your printer and iPad are connected to the same wifi network (your home wifi). When this is complete, your printer should see your iPad.

  • How to get Logic Pro to relocate plug in folders?

I have downloaded a plug in months ago.
    (a folder that contains:
    component file
    vst bank file (.fxb)
a folder with all the samples/instrument files for importing individually instead of using the premade vst bank above
Months ago, I created a project using the plugin.
Today, I went through some folder organization, and moved the downloaded folder with everything in it to another location.
When I open the project, it says that blahblahblah is missing, and therefore the sound will not play from that instrument/plugin.
    I tried something:
I left the downloaded folder in its original location. DOWNLOADS.
I opened the project and it did sound. The settings on the instrument are my main concern. So i saved those settings with the save as feature.
I moved the folder to desired location.
Then reopened the proejct which had the same error message. I opened the instrument FROM THE NEW LOCATION.
    clicked my saved setting.
and this resulted in an error message saying that it couldnt find the files in its original location.
im guessing that the saved setting feature saves your settings and remembers/references the current location of the plug in/files being saved (their settings)
    My problem:
I would like to move the folder of the instrument/plugin to a new location
while preserving the current settings of the insturment/plugin in said project.
How do I get logic to keep the current settings, and only relocate the plugin files????

There are certain things that you have to remember about the way that Logic works, as far as file structure goes - if you change the location of the audio files that are in the regions of a project, you will have to re-locate them (you can do that in the audio bin) to re-establish the file path - the EXS24 will actually look for samples and it might not do it very quickly if your Spotlight index hasn't been updated recently, which is another story.
You have to think about what you need to save into a project folder if you're gonna share it with somebody else, if you're working on a project like that, but otherwise Logic saves what you need for that particular project on your own computer, so that should be OK.
Well, for example, .component files should be placed in your computer's Audio folder, rather than the project file's folder (or your own Audio folder available to you with your log-in) to be available for all your projects, I'm not totally sure what you mean.

  • How do I get Image Capture to recognize a printer on my network?

I just got a new MacBook Pro. I have my epson printer on my network. How do I get Image Capture to recognize that I have a printer. Nothing comes up on devices. I'm sort of stabbing in the dark at network settings and I downloaded the latest Epson driver. Nothing seems to work. Can anyone help? Suz

In Image Capture, a network printer / scanner will appear under "Shared". If it is hidden, a number will appear adjacent to it, representing the number of hidden devices.
If it still does not appear, try resetting the printing system: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
After you do that you will need to add the device again according to the instructions here:
OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer
Follow the instructions below Add a network printer
