How do I get LR to associate pictures with current PS install

If I look in an older folder of pictures and choose one that had already been edited in PS and I decide to again edit it Photoshop, it will look to my backup hard drive and start that PS even if I have the current PS from my main HDD running. How do I get LR to always choose the PS that is on my HDD and not from a backup HDD

That shows you that iPhoto is working correctly and whatever issue you are having is based in your original library.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

AIM 6.5 and 6.8 use a new video codec with a description of "Real Time IM"

First, you have to embbed picture into mp3 file with idtag editors (tagalicious, musicbrainz picard, mp3tag, id3tag editor...).
Then you'll have to install at least Itunes 10.5.1(42), even if you're not using Itunes at all.
Albumarts will now appear in every folder from the finder.

Will not work. To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported. The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.
