How do I get me new Ipod to be recognized on my computer?

I had an Ipod nano before, but it was stolen, so I purchased a new one. Now I can not get my computer to regognize my new one, hence being unable to transfer my previously purchased music onto my new Ipod...... can someone please help??

First try the Five R's. The Five R's are the five things to first do if your iPod is having issues.
I especially suggest Resetting, Restoring, and Reinstalling iTunes.

How do I get a new iPod Touch to have the same music setup as my old one?

I have all the songs on my ipod touch in my itunes library, but there are also a lot of other songs I don't want, so I can't just sync the new ipod. I could drag them all individually but that would take hours.
I was thinking I could get an ipod-to-itunes music program, and then just do my whole ipod, then transfer all of those songs to my new ipod, then delete the songs I had imported to itunes. But that's expensive.

I got an itouch for christmas yesterday, however whenever I connected it to my laptop (compaq windows) it wouldn't show up on my itunes sidebar like it should. So then I decided to download the latest version of itunes, i did that, then i downloaded icloud, (i still don't know how to create an account for that either) Anyways, ever since I opened it and connected it has had the same picture, I think it's in recovery mode but I'm not sure. i have an ipod mini and itunes on my windows xp computer. i just bought the new ipod video that it is not recognized by my computer at all. i plug it in and the entire computer freezes. if i plug in my mini everything works fine.
i have tried updating/uninstalling my new ipod video. i am worried that if i uninstall itunes that i will lose my purchased music.

I assume you have installed the iPod driver, before connecting the 5G iPod. It is possible the device driver for the mini is different, and thus confusing your computer. The iPod driver is on the CD that came with your 5G iPod (iPod with Video)
