How do I get Migration Assist. onto my iBook to move files to my MacBook?

I just got a new MacBook and want to transfer my files from my old iBook G4 (OS 10.3.9). I followed the set up assistant instructions for the MacBook and inserted the OS X Install DVD and installed the file on the CD called "DVD or CD Sharing SetUp". At that point the MacBook's instructions said I should launch Migration Assistant on my iBook, and that Migration Assistant would be located in the Applications/Utilities folder. The problem is...Migration Assistant isn't there! I've searched the whole computer, but it's not anywhere else either. Is there another way to get Migration Assistant onto my iBook? If not, is there another way to transfer my files from the iBook to my new MacBook? Many thanks, from an excited new owner of a MacBook (who's a bit frustrated by this bump in the road). Steve

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, the Migration Assistant (that's compatible with Wi-Fi or Ethernet and therefore the new aluminum MacBooks) requires Mac OS X 10.4.11. You won't be able to use it with your iBook. You can see the system requirements here. Kappy has some great suggestions for manually migrating specific files in this topic.

You can skip MA on the PPC Mac by not networking, but using FWTDM...

Rather than using Migration Assistant, which can cause trouble with the PPC to Intel change, simply boot the G5 in FireWire target disk mode and manually transfer the following:
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
You might want to look over Kappy's helpful guide for migrating, which covers the full process for a manual migration (including the above files).

Otherwise, you can simply copy your old iTunes folder over to your new Mac. It should contain all of your previously purchased apps.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to bakup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

You should copy everything from your old comptuer to your new one.

If you want to be able to access your entire music library from iCloud, you'll have to subscribe to iTunes Match (http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/). Music purchased from the iTunes store is already in iCloud as it can be redownloaded at any time (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).

You can transfer contents from your iPhone back to iTunes library:
First, *BEFORE you connect the iPhone, please go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPad, iPhones and iPods"*.
Then, for those songs that you purchased on your iPhone: Transfer purchases from iPod to iTunes.
For all other non purchased contents (your photos etc), their are ton of third party programs, some is free: iDump, Floola. Some is shareware, but they does preserve playlist/ratings/playcounts/artworks etc: iCopyBot, CopyTrans
