how can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, put another hd in, done command-r & sys reinstalled, but it wanted to update & now am stuck. I don't mind paying for mountain lion; it is too far to get to an apple store. but, i only have one mac, so i cannot download with another mac. lots of other apple, but only one mac.

You will need to do a network recovery:
    Install Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I do not have a high speed internet connection. How can I get Mountain Lion on a disk for install on my 24" Imac?

As long as you use your Apple ID to purchase it, I don't see why they wouldn't let you download the installer on one of their Macs and put it on a pocket drive.
Or, a friend with a high speed connection?
I agree with you about the delivery method, just trying to help you get what you want.

  • How could i get Mountain lion back if it came with the macbook i bought?

    Hey everyone!
i bought a Macbook pro 15 mid 2012, it came with Mountain lion, could i get it back having OS X Yosemite now?
    Also, and more important, how?
i heard that it's possible from Internet recovery (Restating pulsing Cmd+Option+r, i guess??), but then it would download the OS from apple (Which probably is Yosemite, i don't think their servers still have mountain lion, do they?)
it's not on the Appstore anymore (Not even Mavericks), and i really don't want to get it from a Torrent.
    Thanks!

Are you sure i will get Mountain lion after recovering from the internet?
because that sounds amazing! but i am afraid i erase the whole HD and then i get Yosemite again haha
After you restart in Internet Recovery and you get to the OS X Utilities Menu, BEFORE you erase your drive look at the OS X icon to the left of the option to Reinstall OS X. THAT will tell you what your machine came preinstalled with and if it's a Mountain Lion, you're good to go.

  • How do I uninstall mountain lion and reinstall snow leopard

If I had known that I would not be able to use my excel files I would not have purchased OSX Mountain Lion.  Is there a way to uninstall mountain lion and reinstall snow leopard?
    Thank you,

To get more to the point the answer is the only way to go back to SnowLeopard is if you have a complete backup of your system from before the upgrade.
If you do you would boot off your original SL DVD wipe the disk and install SL and then restore from your SL backups.
Short of that here is no way to go back. But as the others have offered there are other less drastic means to deal with the problem.
    regards

  • HT3910 How do I erase Mountain Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard?

Can anyone help me erase Mountain Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard. When I had installed Mountain Lion,I discovered that my music notation program, Overture was not working with Mountain Lion. Please help me, years of work is for now lost.

    Back up your data files.
Use the Snow Leopard installer disc to completely erase your hard drive and everything on it.
Re-install the SL operating system, then all your applications, then your data files.
If you happened to make a bootable backup clone of your hard drive before installing Mountail Lion then you can just clone the backup back to your drive.

  • How can i get mountain lion if i only have 10.5.8?

Do i need to bay snow leopard first to get mountain lion? I'm sorry if my english suck

You also need to make sure that your computer can handle it: please see this page and checkthe 'Supported models' section.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If your Mac is not listed there you won't be able to run Mountain Lion.
If it is able to run it you will first need to buy Snow Leopard: this is no longer sold in the Apple Store but if you ring the Store for your country you may be able to buy it that way.

  • How do you get Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) back from a time-capsule back-up

I have a Macbook Pro Late 2008 model which was running Mountain Lion (Mac OS 10.6) and for Christmas I received a new hard drive. I backed everything up on my time capsule and installed the new hard drive and now I can't get my original operating system back. The laptop came with OS 10.5.8 (Leopard) and I installed this with the original disk but when I try to restore my back-up from the time capsule it won't let me because the back-up is running a newer version of Mac OS. I can't download Mavericks because Leopard doesn't have the app store. It seems that the only way to do it is to buy a hard copy of Snow Leopard from the apple store and wait for it to be delivered, which is what I'll have to do if there is no other option, but I thought I'd check here first if anyone had any experience of this problem. Unfortunately I don't have the snow leopard disk, I don't remember ever installing snow leopard (I thought I went straight to Lion but it would seem thats not possible without the app store) but I guess I must have borrowed a disk from a family member or something.
Anyone had any luck restoring a newer operating system from a time machine backup? Is this even possible?

I ended up putting the old hard drive back in because I thought I was probably going to have to order the Snow Leopard disk from Apple and needed some of the information on my old drive. But before I changed back I had to reinstall the old OS system (leopard) because I couldn't get anywhere with the backup. Whats the restore partition? There was an option to restore from time machine, is that what you mean?

  • How do you get Mountain Lion Mail to show sent email size?

I upgraded to mountain lion I think a couple months ago so I don't remember exactly when I lost this feature, but in Snow Leopard for sure there was an option that when composing a new email, a little bar across the bottom of the email showed the size of your email so when you were adding attachments you could see the size your email was getting to be. I obviously haven't used that in a while because I ahvent' sent attachments in a long while, but I have recently started to do that again and tonight when I was adding files, there was no bar across the bottom of the email at all so I have no idea what size my email was. Even when I hit send and the progress bar in the bottom left of Mail ("Mail Activity") that use to show the file size right underneath the bar also now no longer shows the size so I have absolutely no idea how big the email I sent was.
Can anyone tell me how to get the option back to show the email size of the mail your composing in that little bar on the bottom of your email as well as the file size to display as you are sending in "Mail Actiivity" window? Thanks so much if anyone can help. Thank you!

No, not all of them yet.  Some Mountain Lion features will require iOS6 to work like, for exemple, the iCloud Tabs in Safari.  For now this feature will sync youf Safari tabs between computer but iOS6, it will also work with your mobile devices.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
