How do I get MS Office 2011 to work on Mountain Lion?

I recently upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion and now I can't use any of my Microsoft Office 2011 applications.  I downloaded the new Auto Update from Microsoft, but since I am unable to open any Microsoft Office applications, I'm not able to run the autoupdate.
Is there anyone who knows how to get it to work again?

This is less painful:
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind 4.9, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
AppZapper 2.0.1
AppDelete 3.2.6
Automaton 1.50
Hazel
AppCleaner 2.1.0
CleanApp
iTrash 1.8.2
Amnesia
Uninstaller 1.15.1
Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • How do I get MS Office 2011 to install on Mountain Lion?

I just did a clean install of OS X Mountain Lion from a prepared bootable SD-Card on a new partition of my harddrive and wanted to install Microsoft Office 2011 using the original disc. But after double clicking the installer icon nothing happened besides the rainbow colored spinner showing up and disappearing shortly after and my optical drive making some noise. Activity Monitor indicated that the process of the Installer application doesn't react so I had to force quit it. I tried it multiple times to install MS Office this way using the disc but the problem persisted, also after a reboot. Additionally, I copied the .mpkg file to the harddrive and started it from there, but again the installer would freeze which means that its icon appears in the Dock, stays there and then the process doesn't react anymore.
So far my system is still in a pretty fresh state since I installed hardly any separate apps yet and the most intrusive one of them is probably merely Sophos. OS X's Installer app worked the way it should when I was installing iLife the day before using the Applications Install DVD that came with my Mac.
When I installed Office 2011 the first time, presumably one year ago on another partition on the same Mac which was running OS 10.6, everything worked fine and the same is true for the time when I upgraded to OS 10.7 (although I didn't install Office again, I just kept everything on the same partition).
So is there anyone out there who experienced similiar problems and can please help solve this problem?
Please note that this was first posted in the iMac (Intel) Community. I'm new to this discussion board and didn't recognize at first that there is also a dedicated community for Mountain Lion related topics.

I also came to the conclusion that it must be a font issue, but i've got hundreds of non-standard fonts that i use...  time to clean house!  Thanks for the tip.

Well, that depends on what you mean when you say "verified". But as I wrote in the first post I was able to install iLife from disc on Mountain Lion without much ado. And just now I tested a DVD with some pictures on it and the disc drive would read and display all photos in Preview.
And given the facts that I rarely use my optical drive at all and that my machine is only little more than a year old, a drive failure seems quite unlikely. But thanks for your response anyway!

  • Why does office 2011 run slow under mountain lion?

I was in an Apple Store and launched MS Office (Word or Powerpoint) on a new iMac they had on display.  It was very slow.  I rebooted and repeated the event from cold.  It made no difference.  Is there a problem with M.Lion and Office 2011?

I suspect it isn't that the program is running slow it's just these programs aren't made by apple therefore could take up alot of RAM space so the more apps you have open the slower your system will be. Try downloading apple's iWork (pages, keynote and numbers) and quitting some apps. You should see a major difference. If you would like to stick with MS Office just quit your apps. I doubt it's the program.

  • Outlook (office for Mac 2011) not working with Mountain Lion

Ever since I upgaded to mountain lion outlook (office for Mac 2011) takes 2 minutes to start up. Apple support tells me that MSFT has not done its work. SO I don't recommend anybody who is using outlook to upgrade.

This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office in any way. I suggest you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

  • How do I get Pro Tools MP9 to work with Mt. Lion 10.8.2?

I have Pro Tools MP9 installed on my IMac 27" and just today I upgraded my system software from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Now my Pro Tools has all kinds of problems. The system software doesn't recognize the M-Powered USB audio interface or any other hardware hooked up to my Pro Tools! Safari runs real slow and had I had any idea this was going to happen, I'd have not upgraded anything as everything was working so well before. Anyone else out there have this same problem or is there anyone that can help me solve this dilema?

You might get more relevant help by contacting Pro Tools tech support. It may be as simple as an update to bring compatibility for the latest version of OS X, or some other procedure, but they would have the best info on this.

  • HT3669 My HP Officejet J4680 is now useless in OS X 10.8, has anyone had success in getting the HP printer to work in Mountain Lion

I recently installed Mountain Lion, now my printer/fax/scanner is useless. If anyone has been able to fully use an HP Officejet J4680 please let me know how to get it to work, I am strongly considering on restoring my iMac to Snow Leopard where I can take advantage of my peripherals.

For users who's printer/scanner does not have a compatible driver from their manufacturer:
How do I scan or print with the driver from Apple Software Update?
Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.
Scan from the Print & Scan window:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Click the Apple menu (# ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan (# ).
Click your printer in the left pane.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.Figure 5: Show Details scanning screen# Image: Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
    NOTE:
Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feedermode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
    Hope this helps

  • I can't get text-to-speech to work in Mountain Lion

I am running a MacBook Pro Retina with mountain lion and I can't get text-to-speech to work. I have selected the text and pressed the key to initiate it, but it just doesn't start to talk.

    (cross-posting from another thread)
I'm having the same problem. It's as if my iPhone and MacBook Pro now have two separate calendars.
Basically, I have a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion, 13", late 2011) that I sync via USB with an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1). Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, all of my iCal events would sync flawlessly. But none of the events I've created in iCal (Calendars) since upgrading have synced to the iPhone. Likewise, no new events that I create on the iPhone Calendar will sync to iCal. Also, changes to an existing event (even one created before upgrading to Mountain Lion) don't get synced either.
Everything else seems to be syncing just fine though (music, apps, contacts, etc).

  • IPhoto, Skype, Microsoft Office, Chrome - nothing works on Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and haveno end of problems - nothing works - Google Chrome, iPhoto, Microsoft Office, Skype - you name it. How can all this mess be resolved quickly? It feel that I don't have a computer at home!

I have the exact same issue.
Chrome, iPhoto and Evernote all crash on load. Have tried to wipe them completly with AppCleaner and reinstall but still crash. I don't think its a problem with the programs, they all seem to report the same crash, could be a core OSX fail?

  • How do I get Exchange Tasks to display on the Mountain Lion Reminders app?, How do I get Exchange Tasks to display on the Mountain Lion Reminders app?

I am trying to get Exchange and iCloud to play nice. I am trying to get iOS Reminders and OSX Reminders to be in sync with Outlook 2011 Tasks.
    Here's the situation:
Outlook 2011 Tasks sync with iPhone's Reminders app (via Exchange), and vice versa -- this is a work account.
OSX Reminders syncs with iOS Reminders (via iCloud) -- this is personal account and Apple ID account.
OSX Reminders will NOT sync with iOS Reminders.
I don't care if it's through Exchange or iCloud, just as long as Outlook Tasks sync with iOS Reminders and OSX Reminders.

    Thanks For your replay
    1. Which Exchange tasks do you want to get in Mavericks?

    waiting for your valuable reply.
    thanks

  • How do i get rid of address/search bar in mountain lion?

Is there a way to bring back the seperate Google search bar in Safari? I loved the simplicity of typing "apple" and clicking enter in the address bar and Safari would direct me to apple.com. Now it takes me to Google, creating and additional step in the process. Does anyone have a solution, other than having to type .com every time?

This will work for Safari in Mountain Lion:
Keep bookmarks in the bookmarks bar

  • Scanner function on HP office jet not working with mountain lion

I have been to the HP support sight and attempted to download a new driver.  It asks me it the software download okay, but does not help when I cant find or access the drivers.  The printer portion works.  The scan portion just hangs when I try to access it.
I have the printer on a router that is networked to window and mac machines.

Did you repair permissions and restarted your computer after installing the drivers?
Have you checked your scan settings in System Preferences to make sure it's mapped to the correct printer?
Does scan work if you connect it directly to your MBP or any other comp in your household?

You must be using an update CD.  You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol
