I have itunes on my pc and usually backup/sync my phone to it. I now want to use my macbook but don't know how to get my apps onto it. I have backed up my iphone to the macbook but can't see the apps

That command only applies to content that has not already been downloaded. Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time. After you sign in with your apple i-tunes account on all devices you have to
1.) Connect your I-phone, i-pad, i-pod to your computer
