Is it possable to get my mac to take dictation? I have been using Dragon Dictate 2.5.2 but it bairly works with my current OS. They want $200 for the latest mac versiom $100 dollars more than the PC version. I don't like contributing to such overpricing, do I have any other options?

The reason for the external drive is to back up my TiVo recordings...WARNING...If you have a DVR Expander connected to your TiVo and EITHER fails, you lose everything! I now transfer all my recordings from my TiVos to this drive so I won't lose recordings in the future. Plus I can take the drive with me and connect it via a Thunderbolt wire and watch them on my laptop.

Does Firefox offer a link to search for the plugin? That may lead to some useful information.

Hold the Option key down and restart. Select one of the drives that comes up and hit the Return key.

More information: I have a 3 year old MacBook and had been using "Microsoft for Mac" until last week when I took my MacBook in for some upgrades- including the operating system Lion. I have been unable to use the Word, Excel, etc. programs because they are not supported on the new operating system... and I already used my 30 day trial of iWork when we first purchased the computer. I decided to buy Pages and Numbers through the App Store icon. When I open the Pages and Numbers under my Applications, I can get them to work. However, when I open old documents saved on my computer, they go into the 'old' iWork messages of that my trial has expired. How do I get the computer to automatically recognize that I've purchased Pages and Numbers?

You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

In the text you say you are using Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard will not operate on a G4 (or any Mac with a PowerPC processor). Leopard OS 10.5 is the max OS for PowerPC processor Macs. Your profile shows OS 10.5.6. What OS are you using (or trying to use)?

Is the computer hot? If so then do this:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
If the computer is not hot, then try resetting the SMC - Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).
Finally, try running diagnostics:

Well that's the thing, it's not that... We set it up when I got my phone to sync with her account so I could get her music, but now I want my own because it's combining our space that's being used. I could tell because it says there are 1007 photos on that phone when that's our photos combined. I just want my own phone to recognize so it's not using up my storage.

In your preferences (Tools -> Options in the menu), go to the "Security" tab and make sure "Remember Passwords for sites" is checked. Also, if you have previously clicked the "Never" option for remembering username/password for a specific site, and have changed your mind, the site should appear when you click "Exceptions" next to "Remember passwords for sites".
Some sites do not allow the browser to supply a username/password for you, such as sites whose login pages are made with Flash. If you're able to save passwords for some sites but not others, this may be the problem.
