Well, let's hope that nothing was jiggled out of place when you were installing the new hard drive. Your optical drive may just be out of alignment or the disc you have is "dirty." Get a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the disc as thoroughly as you can starting from the center and working outward in a concentric circlular motion. See if that helps. In particular clean the inner portion well.
If this does not help, then you have a problem. You have opened the computer yourself. That action voids all support from Apple. If you take the computer in for service the store may refuse to service the computer. This is not related to your now expired warranty.

I know it seems like it should be a simple thing to do but I just got my iPad today and was trying to get my contacts and calendar that I have on my iPhone over to the iPad. I then realized that none of my contacts and calendars that I have created on my phone are on my computer... So I went to iTunes>Devices>Info and checked to sync my calendars and contacts and also made sure the replaceinfo my my iphone with content on this computer was UNchecked... but nothing has shown up in my iCal or Contacts on the computer... I am unsure of what to do!

I don't mean to sound silly, but after you checked to sync the info, did you do a sync?
you do have the option to sync between devices via iCloud. however you may wish to back up the info if you can because iCloud ate all my contacts.
Another more tedious way is to e-mail your contacts, one at a time, and open the e-mail on your iPad and computer and save it.

TS1347 I had to get a new hard drive on my laptop PC. Now I am unable to sync my contacts and calendar from my iphone to the outlook software on my PC. Although they are backed up on icloud, I really want the information on my computer.

I cannot figure out how to sync my contacts and calendar from my iphone with my windows PC. The message during the itunes sync process is that information is being backed up to both the cloud and my PC. However the Outlook software remains blank. What can I do??

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help. Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer, which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. I just accepted Apple's kind invitation to synchronize my Outlook contacts and calendar with their iCloud storage. I foolishly accepted the invitation only to discover that iCloud didn't synchronize my data but stole it without any warning as to what it was going to do. The iPhone doesn't store anything on the SIM card, so all contacts, photos, email addresses, etc. are stored in iCloud/Gmail/Yahoo or on the phone itself.
ManS, there is no need to backup and restore the phone for a SIM change. Unless you're unlocking the phone first, then you need to backup, erase the phone, connect to iTunes, and then restore.
But for a SIM change, you will probably have to reactivate iMessage and Facetime on the new carrier link.

How can I get missing contacts, notes, calendar dates and reminders that are just on my old iphone onto the iCloud for transfer to my new iPhone upgrade? Half of my contacts, notes, ect. were on my iCloud so have happily moved to my new iPhone but the rest are completely resistant. For example, on my iCloud I have 14 missing contacts starting with the letter A alone, however they are happily viewable on my old iPhone 4S and won't budge over into the iCloud.
There are also 3 notes missing yet still acessible on my onld iPhone 4S, the list goes on.
Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much.
