How do I get my email to work.

My email worked great with Mavericks and before.  Now I am unable to send and or receive emails on my Mac/Yosemite.  the same account still works fine on my MacBook/ (not upgraded to Mavericks) and my iphones and ipads.  I have spent hours with the ISP and Apple tech folks and is still a no go.  Everything else is great, but I cannot use one of the very basic functions of the iMac...that is email.  My iCloud account works fine, but my main email account does not work at all.  I have checked and rechecked the ISP email settings, and run the various connection wizards and all that stuff.
below is the 1.17.2015 screenshot of the connection status.  Does not change regardless of changes in port to others recommended by either the Apple or ISP folks.  Got Ideas? 

I did not delete the account for fear of losing hundreds of emails in various files.  But, this was next thing to try if I did not get the email fixed pretty soon.  My ISP tech suggested this as well.  The ISP technician  said they have now had sufficient numbers of Yosemite users with the exact same issue.  They were able to help me fix the problem.  The "Automatically detect and maintain Account Settings"  was  probably the culprit.  I did also change the Port from 25 to 587 and found that the SSL block was automatically checked, again.  My ISP tech thinks this may have been the problem.  Every time I saved the Mail Account settings, I would go back to recheck and find the SSL block checked again.  Once I unchecked the "Automatically detect and maintain Account Settings"  the email resumed working and the SSL box remained unchecked.

    Try restroing from your Time Machine backup. Also you should be connected to a UPS so in the event of power outages or brownouts you have enough battery time to do an orderly shutdown. Had you had a UPS connected you would not have had this problem.

    I have an iMac version 10.6.8/2.66 GHz Intel Processor and 4 GB memory, with Safari 5.1.10. I had used Office for Mac 2008 but had to upgrade for work. The download (from Amazon) went swiftly, but when I started Word, it did not function too well. Then about an hour later I noticed that my Yahoo email site stopped working, it lost all images and the text just jumbled up on the left side of the screen. No amount of emptying caches or resets/quits/restarts did anything. I called the Internet support, and they just said it was my iMac that had the problem. I have been reduced to using MacMail as my email, but this is tenuous, as my Yahoo account keeps holding things up and constantly asking me for my password (and sometimes it does not accept it). How can I get my computer back?

    Actually, the download of Office 2011 for Mac probably was not legal and may have contained bugs or other things meant to make it unstable, or invite a host of issues. The usual path would be Office 2011 for Mac on DVD so you could reinstall it and add the extras from the disc as needed; or fix the installation later on. The updates for security were downloads from Microsoft servers. You'd need a legitmate version with pass code.
    Options for Mac and office-like application suites include Libre Office, NeoOffice, and these run free. The latter supports up to Mavericks. 10.9.1 now. They have a word, excel, and other parts a lot like the real office.
    If you have a working clone of the system prior to installing the Office 2011 for Mac download and any subsequent and perhaps unseen extras, you could revert to it simply by restarting the computer from the clone, where it resides in externally enclosed self-powered hard disk drive, of a type known to support OS X clones... With ports to help work with most modern Macs. FireWire + USB. Then, clone it back w/ carbon copy cloner.
    Short of that, perhaps someone will see your post and offer some indepth method of hunting down bugs via use of Console logs; and maybe booting into Terminal utility to use unix code. It can be rather involved. Maybe Linc Davis will offer some detailed reply that will invite you to read carefully and try it.
    I've given up using computers long ago.

    How do I get my email messages to open with just one tap? On my newer Macbook I just click once on the Mail app and my messages open automatically but on the Powerbook it takes two clicks. Can this be fixed to just one click? I've gone into preferences but can't seem to change it.

    Thanks, I was wanting to just click once on a message and have it open right away and then be able to quickly go through my messages. I found the solution from another helpful Mac user. You just move the separator bar that divides your messages from the view pane and move it up and it works like a charm.

    If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
    If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

    Cant get help with this issue on Apple Support, so I have to go to the Apple store to the Genius Bar to get assistance.  All the help issues are so technical in their jargon, that I cannot understand how to fix the issue.

    Another thing to try is renaming it with a .htm or .html extension.
    If that doesn't work either, do you have any other files from your old system? In particular, if you have your old places.sqlite file, you could use that to overwrite your new places.sqlite (bookmarks+history) file.

    If you are using POP email accounts, this is how they are designed to work.  POP mail gets offloaded from the mail server onto the device used to access it, so it will not show up on another client later as it literally no longer is stored on the server.  It may be possible for you to configure your POP mail account to keep messages on the server, so they will always appear every time you access your mail (from any device).  The downside of this is that most POP accounts have limited online storage, and the messages will never disappear until you manually delete them, so if you are not very diligent at cleaning out read mail, you run the risk of your account filling up.
    Really, for what you want, you should switch to an IMAP mail service.  IMAP mail is always stored on the server, not on any one client/device, so it is always accessible from any client on any device.  Given that, most IMAP accounts have much larger online storage than most POP accounts, since the mail is intended to stay on the server.
    Check with your email provider and see if you can switch your account(s) over to IMAP.  If not, there are a number of free IMAP providers, such as gmail from google.

    Sounds like you are losing your internet connection.
    From the Mail menu bar (top of your screen) click Window > Connection Doctor
    Following is from the Mac Mail Help viewer...
    Review the status information:
    Check your Internet connection status. A red status button indicates Mail can’t connect to the Internet. Click Network Diagnostics to help track down the problem and restore an Internet connection.
    Check your account status. A red status button (when you are connected to the Internet) indicates a problem with a mail server or your account setup. Follow the instructions in the Details column; double-click the text in the column to open the Accounts pane in Mail preferences.
    To see log information about server connection problems, click Show Detail to display a details pane. Then click Check Again to see the log as Mail tries to connect again.
    When you’re done, click Check Again to see if your changes resolved the problem.

    Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

    The Wi-Fi connections section is in Settings > Wi-Fi
    If the home screen is not visible tap the Home button, the button on the front of your iPad that has the rounded square in it. Once you reach the Home screen swipe through the screen of apps until you find the Settings app. Tap Settings and go to Wi-Fi.
    If your iPad is completely non responsive, try a restart.
    Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep button simultaneously ignoring the red slider. Keep holding until the Aple logo appears and your iPad will restart.
    The sleep button is on the side of your iPad on the side opposite from the Home button.
