How do i get my imessages backed onto i cloud?

I am looking at backing my phone onto i cloud.
When i go onto my icloud acccount there is no messages icon. I want my messages to be backed up. How dod i do this?

If you back up to iCloud your messages will be backed up, but you cannot view them in the backup; you can only restore the full backup.
If you back up to your computer there are 3rd party apps that can extract the contents of your phone's backup.
However, there is no convenient way to save iMessages, texts, or MMS messages.

If you can see the iCloud contacts in Outlook, you can copy them back to your PC by selecting all the contacts (click one, then press Control-A), then drag and drop the selected contacts to Contacts under My Contacts on the left sidebar of Outlook.
If you want to copy your calendar back to Outlook, select your iCloud calendar on the left sidebar of Outlook, switch to the list view (select View from the ribbon, then click Change View>List), select your events (click on a single event, then press Control-A), then control drag and drop them to Calendar under My Calendars on the left sidebar.
Then you can sign out of iCloud on the iCloud control panel and your local copies will still be there. If you want to add your iCloud email account back to iCloud, you can do this with these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

Is it an iTunes backup or an iCloud backup? If iTunes, connect the iPhone, right click on the name of the iPhone under the DEVICES section in iTunes. Click on Restore from Backup.
If iCloud, on the iPhone go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. When the device powers back on, you will see the original setup screens you saw when your iPhone was fresh out of the box. One of these screen asks you if you want to restore. Choose Restore from iCloud backup.

If the apps are not on your computer's iTunes (did you do File > Transfer Purchases prior to starting the update ?), then you could try downloading them to your computer (re-downloading) and then restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

Hey been there, done that. I moved my music to another external drive and accidentally deleted too much in the process. So the songs are still in iTunes but the Mac can't find them. Not surprisingly.
iCloud and Match are useless as iCloud says about all my songs on the Mac: "Downloaded". What a big help. Transfer purchases didn't work. Not via the iPhone, not via the iPad.
I tried various fixes and loads of software but the first thing that has actually worked is Touchcopy12 for Mac. Sporting a brand-new 2013 Mini now, I tried one song first and when it worked (eureka!) I purchased the software and it's now copying 1800 songs to my external hard drive, right from my iPhone 5.
Not that it was the end of the world but it's nice to have your music when you're at the computer.

I have a new primary PC. My music Library is on an old dying laptop. I have found all my music has disappeared from my phone. Some is on the cloud, but it appears to only be the music purchased on iTunes, only about 1/3 of my collection. I did this last night, and copied all the music from old laptop onto new one. But there was still a lot of stuff missing, mainly from my own CDs that I'd ripped. Backing it up is what you are suppose to do regularly, But, trying to save them via backup means you have to restore your phone in itunes and that is probably not the way to do this. You can search on google for an app that may exist to save these ( if there is one, that would be the best way ) or you can take screen shots of your text and email them or just keep them on your camera roll. Im pretty sure if you google, you will find something to help you save them, most likely the deleted ones are gone tho.

Which Icons are these? Are you talking about the thumbnails? If so then you need to do this:
View >> Media Types
Now look for something like in this picture (click on on it to get a bigger picture) make sure there are ticks next to all of them except the Video unless you want videos to show up as well.
