Was that iTunes' safe mode as opposed to Windows' safe mode? iTunes safe mode is invoked by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.

Its my default video player and plays 95% of what i throw at it. It plays large HD files smoother and more reliable than any other player.

Best I've managed is to create a smart playlist in iTunes with the album set to the title of the course. Have the smart playlist update automatically so that any new postings from the course are included within the playlist. Are the selections un-checked? Items that are not checked will not automatically play. If they are checked, go into Get Info and see if you have the "Skip when shuffling" option set -- if it is, and if you happen to have Shuffle turned on, they won't play.

You may have to delete all the music off the phone, then add your music back on, in order to fix this. To delete it, go to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipe across All Music, then tap Delete.

Do you have a working copy of the library anywhere? The key file is called iTunes Library.itl and normally exists inside <User's Music>\iTunes. This is the file that knows what is in your library and each of the playlists, and holds ratings, play counts etc. Changing the media folder path in preferences tells iTunes where you'd like it to store media in future. It doesn't magically connect iTunes to any media that might already be there, or fix links to media that has been moved, or make it pick up a non-existent library file. If the worst comes to it you will need to import the media into the new empty library.
See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device if you have any of these to recover ratings, play stats and playlists, and to associate your device with the new library.

Preventing iTunes from playing one song after another

When I'm listening to music from my playlist, I notice that when the song reaches its end, iTunes automatically starts the next song in the playlist.
I don't want that to happen--I just want the song to end and that's that. I would think being able to control this would be under Preferences but I couldn't find it there. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

you can always make a playlist with the one song you want to play or you can take the check marks out of all the songs in your playlist, this will allow you play only one song at a time, but they won't sync to your ipod or play in other playlists.

The music player always reverts back to where I started the day before at a low volume and it's driving me mad! On a previous phone with earlier IOS there was the option to play from where the track left off when stopped - how do I find this option now?

If you click on the column headings in iTunes it will sort the tracks by the column you have selected.
Try clicking on the Album column, this should then put the tracks in the right order. You probably have the Track column selected which will keep the tracks in alphabetical order by Track name.
