How do I get my iPod 1st Gen out of recovery mode when it gives an error message (1)?
I tried to restore my iPod 1st generation and while restoring it got stuck in recovery mode. I tried to get it out of recovery mode by (restoring and updating) but it would say (extracting software) and then would show an error message (1) saying-

After putting phone into DFU mode and attempting to restore and update the phone, at the end, an error message came up saying: "the iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1)."
How do I go about fixing this problem. I need to get my phone out of this (connect to itunes) mode. Everything I've tried does not work ! By the way, I have the latest version of itunes .. While YOU may not have attempted to jailbreak the phone, SOMEONE ELSE did. Error 1015 occurs by attempting to restore a previously jailbroken phone.
It's very likely you may NEVER get your phone out of recovery mode and your phone may be rendered permanently bricked.

How can i get my ipod touch 4th gen out of recovery mode if my home button isn't working?
i am not interested in fixing my home button myself. the ipod is 2.5 years old and the home button seems to be pushed in too far so it will not work and i was updating an app when it went into recovery mode. i have tried all of the tutorials on YouTube and none have worked. i tried pressing the home and sleep buttons until the apple logo appeared, it did but less than a second later, it went back to the "connect to itunes" screen. please help
The only way to get an iPod out of recovery mode is to connect it to iTunes and restoring to a previous back up. If there is no back up the data will be lost. Hope this helps!

IPod touch 1st gen goes into recovery mode after shut down or lock
Alright, so I bought a used iPod touch 1st gen from a friend. It was working fine for a few weeks until it started shutting off and going into recovery mode when I locked or turned it off. When off, half of the times I can do a hard reatart and hold the home and hold buttonsand it will turn on. The other times it will just come up with a white screen. When I plug it into my computer, it says it has to be restored. And this is an ongoing loop that I cannot seem to fix. I looked up my serial number and it says it's out of warranty.
So my first question is, is there anyway I personally can fix this problem, or do I have to take it to Apple? My second question is, what are their policies on iPods that were bought used from someone else? And is there a way for me to get a warranty on it to get it repaired if I can't fix it myself or do I have to pay full price on replacement or repairs?Welcome to Apple Discussions

As to your warranty, you no longer have one. Apple will, for a fee, repair your iPod if it needs repairing. There are independent shops who can do it as well - just Google them. -

Are you saying the screen never turns off? That is controlled with auto lock in general settings.
IF your screen turns off, your phone is going to reduced power state, but still looking for events. This is standby, and you see published standby times for the different iPhones.
There is no other setting between this and turning off. So slightly different than a PC. -

I just bought a used ipod touch 1st gen. It was fully functional before I wiped it. I wanted to remove all of the other person's music and personal info before I started using it. I also wanted to update ios. I wiped it and when it restarted it was in recovery mode. I have tried to restore it and I keep getting an error message that it could not restore unknown error has occurred (1). I have tried troubleshooting and going through all of the steps that Apple suggests and nothing has worked. Any suggestions? I just want it restored and updated to the latest ios that will work with it (3.1.1 I believe) I don't know what to do at this point.

My iPod touch is in recovery mode and will not exit it, i've tried clicking the home button and lock button in the stated order on youtube etc but it has not worked. I clicked restore on iTunes and it downloads it all and updates but then does nothing and gives me the option to restore it all over again. I honestly have no clue what to do about it.

How to recover from an iPod Touch 2G stuck in recovery mode (even after using DFU)
I have an iPod Touch 2G which is in a mode that requires recovery. When connecting it to a Windows XP computer running iTunes 11.0.2.25(HP) it is detected as needing recovery. I think it has got into this state from pressing random buttons when it stopped working (not a good idea!).
I turn off my AVG antivirus software and Windows firewall and start the iTunes recovery. This fails with error 40.
I now try putting the iPod into DFU mode using iREB-v6. This reports that the iPod is in "PWNED DFU state". I then try the iTunes restore again and this time the iPod screen turns white and then I get an error 21.
I have tried 2 different cables and 2 different computers (Windows XP and Windows 7) and have also tried different USB ports.
Whilst this iPod was never knowingly jailbroken a visit to an Apple store was unsuccessful in that they claimed it had been jailbroken. Various combinations of buttons have been pressed together but no different firmware installed. I don't want to jailbreak it - just restore the factory settings. I'm not bothered about retaining any contents of the iPod.
Any ideas on what to try next and any advice on what the updater log is telling me precisely about the problem would be really useful.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

Ipod 5th gen stuck in recovery mode.
When i plugged my iPod in it would turn on to the apple logo and then switch off again.
i held down on/off button and home, it then told me to connect to iTunes. usually when it does this i restore it and it is fine.
I plugged it into my iTunes and it will extract the software, then start restoring it.
after about 5-10 seconds of restoring it it switches off and iTunes gives me an error message.
I have had error 8, -18 and also one which was 2000 and something that i can remember off the top of my head.
How do i sort this?
I have updated my mac software to the new OS X yosemite to see if that helped but it hasn't.
