How do I get my iTunes library off old PC & on my new Mac
Brand new Mac user--this is my second day. Have had an iPod Nano for about 8 months and want to move my iTunes Library to the new Mac and de-authorize (is that the right word?) the iTunes library on old PC once I pull everything off of it--it's going to be wiped and given to a charity!
The songs on the iTunes library and the songs on iPod not all the same--there is only a subset of songs from the library on the iPod. Suggestions?
You basically just have to transfer the iTunes folder from the PC to the Mac.
Apple has some instruction for using your iPod as an external disk drive:

Or you can use file sharing if the Mac and PC are both connected to a network.

Quick answer for just iTunes if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

That is correct. The sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. The ipod is not a backup device.

Anyone help me please?You should have copied the complete iTunes Library, including the iTunes Library.itl file, which, as far as I know, contains all the Play Counts from the existing (old) iTunes and pasted that into your new computer.
Again, as far as I understand it, the total Play Count is not held on the Classic. If it was, it would not include plays within the iTunes Library. All the iPod does is remember how many plays since the last sync and tell iTunes to increase the Play Count by that number. -

Then the clickable choices .
This box has not reappeared.
3. I am absolutely fed up trying to find a solution.
This should not be this difficult.

How do i get my itunes library from old HDD to link in from the new location on the new HDD
My old HDD died and I had to install a new one. Fortuantely I had recent backup which I transferred to the D drive on my new HDD. I relioaded iTunes but can't figure out how to link the files on the D drive to the newly installed iTunes 10.X
