How do I get my iTunes on my desktop working again?

My desktop and laptop has can up saying it needed the update and about halfway through the upgrade it crashed. It was saying that there was an error coming up saying that iTunes wasn't installed on either.
What happended? Does this mean that I have lost everything?
Who else has this happened to?
I've had enough. Can someone help please?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
Remove any 3rd party software (if any, you may not have any) hich uses Airprint features (such as Fingerprint by Collobos)
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or by right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

    Hi, madperson! And thanks for your reply. Yesterday, when I posted my query, I had already ran FF in safe mode and checked all (and few) ext/addons I have. The problem persisted, so I posted my question. This morning, however, the glitch seems to have cleared itself! The New Tab button and the "+" icon both work like before! Don't ask me what happened, I could not even begin to try to explain. Anyway, here are the ext/addons I have: Norton Vulnerability Protection; Personas; Flash Video Downloader; Groowe Search Toolbar (which was suggested by Mozilla); and Yahoo Toolbar.     Hi, I bought the latest MacBook Air about four months ago pre-installed with Lion. About two months ago I bought the VGA adapter so I can use my MBA in clamshell mode. I plugged in my mouse and keyboard to the usb ports and everything worked great until I started messing with the display settings to try and improve the resolution. Now, I can't get my MBA to wake up from sleep on the external display when I close the lid. When I open my MBA, my external display acts as a secondary monitor. I've read other people's responses and they suggest InsomniaX or Caffeine or something. I DO NOT want to install these programs! It was working when I first bought it and that's how I want it. Help?

    Your phone is in recovery mode.  All data on it are already lost.  You must connect your phone to your computer and restore through iTunes.

    I'm using an iMac, I have Apple TV 2, a Bt home hub 3, between 30-50mb speed over wifi (160mb when my mac is wired). I have followed all the set up instructions, up to date software, firewall etc. On the Apple TV I can watch a movie through it's iTunes no problem, BUT when I try via home sharing it works for a few minutes then tells me to connect to the network, then connects again a few seconds later, then I try again and it does the same thing despite every other wifi device working fine ( humax, ps3, wii). Until about 4/5 months ago it worked perfectly with exactly the same hardware, so surely it can only be the updates? Is there a solution out there or do I have to wait until Apple pull their bloody finger out and fix it properly? The main reason for having Apple TV was the home sharing, so now this is just an expensive doorstop.

    If you look in the audio output port, is there a red light showing.  If so, the internal switch is stuck..  Insert the headphones a few times, jiggle a toothpick inside or shot some compressed air to trip the switch.  If no success, have the Apple store genius bar technician do it.

    Good luck. It took me weeks to fix this when I had to do it. Your old ID branches out in lots of places. You may have to delete app and get them again, at least that is what Apple told me. Plus, all of your settings on your iPad that required any ID, will have to be changed. My old ID kept showing up in different places for weeks. Changing it on Apple.com is just the beginning.
