How do I get my library back to Itunes... it is stuck in my harddrive

After my computer guy took down my computer to fix it, I discovered my whole itunes library stored in the hard drive. Good news, except that I cannot figure out how to import the library to itunes. Apple already re-importedall my purchased items, so I am worried about doubling up... should I delete everything here now, then somehow upload from my hard drive file? How do I do that? Thanks for any help!!!

Depending upon the available ports on your MBP you will need an adapter and an HDMI cable to connect to your TV (unless it is an older model).
These are example of an adapter and an HDMI cable:

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/MISC/CBLHDMI1406/
One can find a single cable that combines the two.
Since you have not indicated what MBP you have and the TV connections that are available, these may or may not be applicable in your situation.
Ciao.

  • My computer recently crashed.  I had everything on an externa drive.  I'm trying to reload my music into itunes from my external drive.  I do not have an itunes library document for some reason.  How do I get my library back onto itunes?

I'm trying to figure out how to access my music library from my external drive.  I do not have a media library document and believe that I would have to create one based on the music that is on my external drive.  Can someone help?

If you're running Windows 8.1, this seems to be a common theme, or some variation there of at least. Myself, I can't even back-up on my iPhone 4S which has iOS 7.1.2 and I'm running iTunes 11.3.0.54 and have resorted to purchased the iTunes Match service to ensure that music on my primary desktop PC (which is paired to my iPhone) will be available on both the iPhone and my Windows 8.1 laptop. Regarding backing up of the iPhone, I'm thinking about going to a third party solution until either Apple and/or Microsoft can figure out why Windows 8.1 is having so many problems with the current version of iTunes (as of this writing 11.3.0.54).

    iDevices are not backup devices.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Even if you don't have such a device there are links in the article that will show how to recover your purchases.
In addition, the laptop may have drowned but the hard drive is probably fine. You should be able to find someone who can extract the drive from the laptop and recover your personal data from it.

my computer broke down and now i bought a new  Mac,  how can i get my music back from iTunes??

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library.  Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists.  Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.

  • I lost my iphone, how do i get my contact back on itune?

lost my iphone, how do i get my contact back on itune? Is there somewhere where i can have it?

iTunes does not store contacts. iTunes serves as the sync conduit for syncing contacts between your iPhone and a supported address book app on your computer where your contacts should be. Not a good idea to depend on an iPhone or any cell phone alone for contact info, which can be lost or stolen.
Contacts are also included with the iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. You can try using a 3rd party app such as this one to try extracting the data from your iPhone's backup.

  • When I backed up files on my external drive, I inadvertently dragged my itunes library there. Now I can only play songs on my laptop when my external drive is plugged in. How do I get the library back to my computer

When I was backing up files from my computer to my external drive, I inadvertently dragged my itunes library to the external drive. Now I can only play my library when my external drive is plugged into my computer. How do I get the library location changed back to my computer?

Your drive was used with a PC and formatted NTFS which is proprietary Microsoft format.
You need to install a third party program that will read the NTFS format.
There is various software from PARAGON, Tuxera and NTFS-3G
When you get the data off and have verified it to be good, reformat the drive either HFS+ for Mac use only, or for Mac and PC use then MSDOS (FAT32) for under 4GB files (best) or exFAT (for larger than 4GB files) is proprietary and Microsoft is appling for a patent, which would likely mean OS X won't be allowed to read it anymore without a licensing fee and you'l have to pay another third party software company to read the format, just like NTFS is.
The less you have to rely upon third party sources to read your drives the better, this way if you have a issue and need to read the drive on another machine you don't need the software, and a internet connection and a credit card and...and...and...

  • I have lost my iTunes library. How can I get my library back?

My iTunes library was stored on an external hard drive. Given that the MTBF of these drives is probably measured in months, I realize this was a bad decision on my part; nonetheless, it happened. How to I get my library returned to me?

What happened? The drive failed? If you do not have the music backed up some where else, and the drive cannot be accessed there isn't anything for you to do. You'll simply have to re-download what purchased music is available from iTunes and/or re-rip any CDs.

  • Transferring files over from the hard drive of a previous computer. How can I get my library back?

A couple weeks ago, my old, old laptop finally breathed its last breath and shut off suddenly while I was using it. Various parts of it were broken anyway so I got a new one rather than try to figure out what was wrong with it. All of my files were totally undamaged since it wasn't a hard drive issue, so I just got one of those enclosure things where you unscrew your old hard drive, stick it into the enclosure, plug it into your new computer with a USB cord, and then can drag all your old files onto the new computer.
I could get all my old music back this way by dragging those folders, but if I want to get my library back -- specifically, my playlists, and ideally my info on play counts/date added/etc -- is there a way that I can do that? Is there some "Library" file, series of files, or folder that I can drag onto my new laptop in order to get those things back without having to recreate all my playlists and lose my play info?
Have been running Windows 7 on both my old and current laptop, and was using iTunes version 10.7.0.21, if that information is necessary. Can give you whatever other info you'd need. Thanks!

    1. By default, it will be in the same folder as the iTunes Music or iTunes Media folder. If you don't find it, search the computer for items with that name.
    2. Wherever you want.

  • How do I get my library back after a PC re-build

Had problems with my profile so had to re-build my machine. I now have nothing in my Purchased list. Is it possible to get the library back?

This is one of the many reasons that always maintaining a backup copy is basic.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to do so ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:
    File>Transfer Purchases
When you buy from itunes you get one download only. it is your responsibility to backup your music, and all other info/data/pics/docs/etc.

  • How do I get my movies back on iTunes

How do I get my movies back if I purchased it on iTunes.

Films are currently a one-time only download from the store. If they are no longer on your computer's iTunes then have you got them on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch that you can copy them back from via File > Transfer Purchases ? If not then have you got them on a backup (e.g. external drive) that you can copy them back onto your computer from and then back into iTunes via File > Add File To Library ?

  • How do I get the colors back in Itunes 12 sidebar icons

Hi. I have a hard time getting used to every new itunes version with the user interface getting harder and less friendly than the previous version, probably since itunes 8 or so. I NEED colorful icons to be able to differentiate what is what in the sidebar, and I have always found a work around, since they dropped the much loved colors, in exchange for increasingly monochrome, drab Gray. There is no differentiation even in the grey, no bold letters for titles, headings, album names etc.   In  iTunes 12 however I tried changing the itunes.rsrc file in this version and it really messed my itunes up, to the point where I had to trash it and start all over with new itunes. Does anyone know how to bring the colorful icons back in iTunes 12? This is ONE of the problems, search is not working right for me either for itunes 11 or 12. I would love it if Apple could give us the option of using old Itunes, such as 8 or something similar where everything was more clearly defined and intuitive, at least for me. Thanks!

PS I am using OSX 10.9.5
