How do I get my music and pictures back?

My iMac is having problems. I think its some combination of the processor and the cooling system, but basically I can't turn my computer on. But that's not what this question is about.
Before I take the computer in to be looked at and/or repaired, I would like to my stuff off the hard drive. I'm mostly interested in saving my iTunes library (lots of purchased songs) and my iPhoto library, but I'll be happy to get everything off.
My question is how to do this (and you don't have to explain how to open the back of the iMac, identify the hard drive, or how to unscrew it and take it out of the iMac. I know how to do that). I also have a G4 PowerBook, as well as a LaCie external hard drive, which is where I want to move the photos, music, and other files to.
Of course I may be wrong, but I think my question is simply what cables, hook-ups, etc. I need to hook the iMac internal drive to my PowerBook. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Sync the content to the device the same way you always have.
Or maybe it would be a good idea to read the manual and understand the proper way (according to Apple) to use the device.

My OS went out on PC while reinstalling Windows my iphone froze. I took my phone to the apple store and the only way they could fix my was to to reset it. The reset restore my phone to new, which wiped off all of my pictures, contacts, music, calendar, and apps. I discovered later that reinstalling Windows wiped my itunes clean. Fortunately, I was able to get a few of my contacts from my google accounts, but not any of the one I had gotten recently. How can I get back everything I have purchased and downloaded over the last few years?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everyhting back.

previously had sucess with soft start up... but it is done for this time... i plug it in, it shows me the motorola icon, then shows my battery percentage... no matter how long it has charged from a wall charger... it quickly goes to five, ten and straight to one hundred percent... always the same.... anyways... while my original phone worked... on several occasions i tried to view my pictures and videos on my computer from my phone... and it would only pull up about a third of my files... i used my video recorder for audio recordings because the audio quality was more clear... i play guitar and i would use my phone to record new riffs i wrote instead of going through the hassle of setting up my recording equiptment for a thirty second riff... and use it as i guess an ear reference to figure my riffs out later when i wanted to expand....this seems to be my biggest regret and mistake and i always feared this would happen but i guess not enough to prevent it.... had about 60 video files on my original phone, and as i mentioned earlier, even with tech supports help... could only get about a third or less of those videos veiwable on my computer... now the original phone wont function and my computer wont recognize it as a removable device... just got a replacement, put my old sd and micro sim cards in and is the replacement is bringing up even fewer videos and pictures than what the computer would recognize before with the original... so basically... i guess my question is... is there any hope of recovering my videos or is it a lost cause...? none of my contacts were transferred but as i get texts from old contacts... there name comes up with the new text message.... just hoping there is some internal storage that is the magical doorway to all of my guitar riffs.... really broke my heart... so anybody... anywhere.... rain down some hope and knowledge on your boy.... thanks for any attempts of help...

Regardless of where the content came from, backups do not contain media.
It is ultimately up to the user to manage their content and ensure it all exists in an accessible location.
Have you failed to maintain backups of your media regardless of which computer it originated on?

Ipod touch had to be reset because of 20 million minute lockout. how do i get my music and apps back on there

My son had a 20 million minute lockout on his itouch. It was reset at the apple store and he has lost all his music and apps. They are on the itunes account, but I am having trouble synching his itouch to download.

I just got another Iphone4 from apple today as my older one got broken. After I plugged in my Iphone it did the whole back up thing but all of my contacts and my photos have been erased from my Iphone. I'm wondering how I'm able to get them all back. Some of my friends suggested going on fb and adding everyone back but that will take a while as I had another of contacts on my phone including contacts that do not have fb. Hi there , I'd be very happy if someone out there could guve me a hand so here it goes... a few days ago , I was on my mac os Lion and then there was a sistem update , as usual , I accepted the sistem update and restarted my computer .... somehow the computer crashed in the midle of the installation and It wouldn't boot anymore , so I entered the Command + ( S or R , I don't remember right now ) and Formated the sistem ( It was the only way out ) . Now that everything was erased , I want so sinc my iphone with my "new" iTunes , but it has nothing , can I do a reverse sync ? Is there any way to recover ONLY the itunes from my backup external Hd ?

You restore them from the backups you made before you did a complete system restore.
You do make regular backups, especially before you wipe your system, correct?

iPods and other iDevices are not backup or storage devices.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder (and all other desired data) from the old computer to the new computer.

Keep in mind that the recovered photos will not be in their full resolution, but instead will be the scaled down versions that were optimized in size and resolution to fit your iPod's smaller LCD screen.

Do you have the computer working again? If so, sync the iPhone to the computer, and in iPhoto it should show up as a 'camera' and you can import the photos from there. You can also open iTunes and transfer the music from the iPhone to your iTunes library.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

How do I get my "save and quit" back after updating to the latest version of Firefox on a PC?

How do I get my "save and quit" back I do not like having to close all my tabs and loose all that every time I close out of firefox. When I got the latest version of firefox I lost the ability for firefox to save my tabs when I close out of it. I have to go through the process of opening all my tabs and refinding the sites all over again each time I load up firefox. I can not find the place to change the settings to being back the way they were before firefox got the latest version. I want my "save and quit" back.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session. 
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page. 
Another possibility is to use:
