How do I get my music back?

I made the silly mistake of syncing my ipod with my Itunes library. Without thinking about it I just hit accept and then realized that because all of the music on my Ipod was not the music in my library, all of the music that was on my ipod was now being deleted. I had a friend download her music onto my Ipod and I wanted it in my library, but instead I erased it all. I really want to get it all back without having to ask her to download it all for me again. I know this might be a long shot, but is there any possible way that I could get it all back?

Yes, just delete the duplicates but make sure to keep at least one copy!
Actually it might be easiest to start over - totally clear your library, and make sure this copy setting is turned off

If it was not in your iTunes library and you updated via iTunes you will have to get the music again sinve synced media like apps and music are not include din the iPod backup that iTunes makes.

It won't show on iCloud because iCloud is associated with a specific Apple ID. The music should be on your computer's iTunes and a Sync will put it on the iPad (be sure to configure iTunes properly). If you want to get it from iCloud, I think that you need to temporarily change your ID back to the old one but I've never done that myself.

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library. Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists. Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.

Media and apps are not part of the backup. They need to be re-synced from your itunes library or re-downloaded from the store.

I can sync with iTunes but it doesn't copy these songs back, even though they still appear in my iTunes library. I can click on the Music link under 'On My Device' in iTunes and the missing songs all appear to still be on the device, but they are not. I normally delete using iTunes and do not have this issue. This time I was out and needed more space to shoot photos and videos so I removed a lot of music from my phone through the Music App.

A new version shouldn't do that but it does seem to happen on occasion to a few unlucky ones. Restore your library from the backup you make of your computer before you install new software. If you don't have one, this is a learning experience.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

The most efficacious way to get your music and other personal data onto your new Mac is to restore it from the backup you made of your old computer. Once that is done you can re-enable iTM on the new Mac and your iPhone.

Buy the songs that your friend put on the iPod that you liked. They had no right to give you the copyrighted music when they sold you the device.

I enabled the backup, but when i went to use the backup, the phone recovered everything except the music.

Of course your music was lost - unless you uncheck sync music, you're syncing with another music library. You'll have to sync your phone with the other/original computer to the music back.
