How Do I Get My Music On The Radio.

Hey there, looking for everyones oppinions
When your projects are final and ready, what are the nessary steps onto getting your music played on radio. A&R? other method?
Opon acceptance, do most radio stations pay you a figure per play? What is the run down on this. (licensing to the radio station or promo given to generate label sales)
Also am looking for examples of simple basic radio contracts between label & radio station.

When your projects are final and ready, what are the
nessary steps onto getting your music played on
radio. A&R? other method?
There are various ways:
1.A consulting firm which markets artists directly to radio and other media companies.Search for "Radio Consulting." These cost money,but are almost guaranteed to work.
2.A music selling service.These sell music and their broadcast rights to radio stations and TV.Some companies have music directors which screen new music,and if they like it you get on their database.Some cost money,some are free.
3.College radio stations.These will play your music,if they like it,and are free.Visit one and ask to talk to the music or program director.
4.A music publishing company.These are a little harder to get accepted in.Look for ones that specialize in "Indie" or independent music,and also film scores.
All of this requires a lot of footwork on YOUR part.Don't expect them to listen to your music and hand you over money on a silver plate.That only happens in wet dreams.Also,expect rejection,and don't take it personal.They sell a PRODUCT,and will treat your music as such.To them your musical opus is simply another product to be sold.That is THEIR JOB.
I know several people that work in these environments,and their most common complaint is that the artists they deal with are TOO EGOCENTRIC.
So,check your ego at the door,and you will go far.

No they do not pay you.Unless you are signed to a major label,or a major publishing company like BMG or ASCAP,or the like.This is too complicated to get into here,I suggest that if you REALLY want to know,go to a bookstore and get a book on the subject.
