How do I get my old iPod to update on my new MacPro?

I transferred all of my songs to iTunes from my old Mac to my brand new MacPro, plugged in the iPod, but it says it can't update because it is in use from another application.
How do I get it to recognize the new Mac as the new home AND how do I get it to recognize (and PLAY) the music I previously purchased on my old Mac?
PLEASE, don't tell me I have to buy the songs over again.... plus it did some updating so I might not be able to move songs from the iPod to the new Mac.
HELP!

  • How do I get an old iPod touch backup onto a new iPod touch?

My daughter dropped her iPod touch 32GB and shattered the screen. We replaced it today, and I am trying to restore the last iPod touch backup from my iTunes account. It is about one week old. When I first connected the NEW iPod touch it gave me an option to restore, but then prompted me that the IOS was out of date and I had to first update the IOS then restore.  Exact message:
The backup of "NAME iPod" is cannot be restored to this iPod because the software on the iPod is too old.  To restore this iPod from the backup, you must first set up the iPod as new and restore the software to its latest version.
So I chose NEW, and then it seemed to configure it.  It is IOS 5.1.1.  But all to the "base" system. How now do I restore the apps, music, etc from the last backup
I named this new iPod the exact same.

    To restore from backup see:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
The backup does not included synced media like apps and music. you can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
The apps have to be in the iTunes library before you restore from backup otherwise there is no place for the app date to be restored to.

  • How do I get my old Ipod to sync with my new Apple ID?

Until recently, I have been using my Dad's apple ID for buying songs and using his library. Now I have my own Apple ID and spent loads of time transfering my music to this account. Now that I plug in my Pod Classic to sync it all up, it won't let me and I don't know why. Can you help?

Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:

Not all iBook G4s are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.

Yes, it would be a paid upgrade, if compatible and available.

  • HT5624 I don't want Icloud.  I believe it drains the battery of my phone.  How do I get the old operating system back on my new iphone 4G?

I just got a new upgrade iphone from a 3G to 4G.  My son updated the software with Icloud.  I do not like it, it drains my battery.  How do I get the old operating system back (without icloud).  Also, I don't know how to close an APP anymore and I think that could be draining my battery as well.  It doesn't work the same way when I doubled click and then touch the APP it doesn't give me a dash to close it up again.

Apple does not support downgrading the iOS.
As for icloud, go to   Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account.
    As for battery drain...
    Look through this...
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/19/ios-7-battery-life-fix/
Also, Settings>General>Background App Refresh:   turn off apps you don't want refreshing data - this can preserve battery life.
Also try a reboot:  press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.

  • How do I get an OLD iPod and a NEW iPad to share?

Some time ago I purchased an iPod against my better judgement.  A couple of weeks ago I received a new iPad as a gift.  I attempted to get set up with my OLD Apple id, but Apple said it didn't exist.  Possible since it hadn't been used for a couple of years or more.  So I established a "new" Apple id.  Then I found out the old one does still exist and it had purchases on it.  Now I can't get the old purchases to show up on the new iPad.  Is Apple anal retentive when it comes to file handling or what?????  I've heard that each ap has it's own storage and file id so even documents can't be found.  I thought Apple was supposed to be the "best".

Okay, I re-read what you wrote.  I think your words were "If you created a new Apple ID, any purchases you made will be linked to that Apple ID. Use your old Apple ID to download whatever you purchased in the past."  So I can still access the "old" stuff on the "old" equipment using the "old" id, and I can access the "new" stuff on the "new" equipment, using the "new" id.   What did I miss?  I've already read about 200 pages of comments that Apple won't allow you to merge id's so I'm not the only one complaining.
As for returning it?  Yeah if you want to pay a $75 rental fee for two weeks.  I think they call it a "restocking" fee.  And I haven't even begun on the anal retentive idea that it will only download and view MP4 videos, even though most of the world uses AVI.   Then there is the issue that you can't use memory cards, thumb drives or anything else of that nature because, there are not ports for anything.  And Apple makes sure no one elses cables, cords, connectors etc. are compatible.  But assuming you can actually use the thing for anything besides pictures you take with it and MP4 videos, the display is truely stunning.
The weak minds are at Apple and their rediculous restrictions.

  • How do i sync an old Ipod nano account to a new one?

My husband has an iPod Nano. He used to have it set up on an old computer linked to an email address that is now no longer in opperation. We have now put ITunes onto a new computer and he has created a new Itunes account under a new email address. We plug his ipod in, and when we click on the device it shows all of his old songs on his nano, but we can't get the old and new songs to sync, or at least the new songs onto his nano and override his old songs.

  • How to I get my shuffle & iPod to work on my new laptop....

My old desktop died and my songs are songs?
    1) How do I get my shuffle & my iPod to connect to my new laptop when it used to be assigned to my old dead desktop?
    2) How do I get my purchased iTunes songs from Apple since I cannot get them from the dead desktop computer?
    Thanks,
    Bill Fee

*How do I get my shuffle & my iPod to connect to my new laptop when it used to be assigned to my old dead desktop?*
1). Connect your iPod to your computer (this won't work for the shuffle by the way which doesn't have the same manual setting the larger iPods have, you don't actually say what model the other iPod is). If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
*How do I get my purchased iTunes songs from Apple since I cannot get them from the dead desktop computer?*
If your iPod still has the purchases on it then any of the methods above will let you transfer them back to the computer. However if they aren't on the iPod and if you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • How do i get my old itunes back? I upgraded new version and do not like it

Or can i access free music again? As i could listen to the radio before???? I cannot find it in the new version.

It's been awhile since I've done something like this, but if I memory serves me, I believe you use the System Restore function to return your computer to the state it was in prior to installing iTunes 11.
That should take it back to the last version of iTunes you'd installed. Of course, any other changes you've made to your system since then (e.g. other programs installed, etc.) will also be changed back.
Not to sound like a jerk for referring you to Google like so many people online tend to do--but--I think there are instructions for the process of reverting to a previous version available online. I've done it in the past with IE 8 vs IE 9.

For some reason my profile quit working on a Win7 computer. I can get my e-mails back but copying the abook.mab over doesn't recover my address book. How can I get my contacts back without having to enter them manually?

Were you using just Personal Address Book, or had you other user-defined address books?
I think you might need ''history.mab'' too (this represents Collected Addresses) and any user-defined address books would have names such as ''abook-1.mab'' and so forth.
But you'll need to import these user-defined address books, and the tool I know for doing this is
