How do I get my old music library from my iPod to my new account?

I have a great music library on an old iPod nano (1st gen) and it was linked to a laptop that crashed beyond repair a couple years ago on an iTunes account from an old email address I can't even remember. I have a new IPhone and I tunes account now and want to know how in the world I can get my songs out of that nano and into my new library? It says when I hook it up that it's linked to another account. Help please!!!

You should be able to transfer iTunes purchases as described on the page that you posted from i.e. File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. I am trying to move my music library from my ipod to my new laptop... i have followed instructions from website, but when i was supposed to have all my songs in my itunes on the new laptop, they were not there, they are in a folder called "music".
wheni open my itunes now, i have only the songs i purchased from the store and a few more i had dowloaded from my cd's. Most of the songs have an ! in front of them, and i can't play them.
on my ipod i have only a few songs....
my old laptop was windows xp and the new one windows 7, my ipod is 1st generation nano

MY COMPUTER WITH MY ITUNES LIBRARY CRASHED. I HAVE ABOUT 400 SONGS ON MY IPOD AND I WANT TO TRANSFER THE MUSIC FROM MY IPOD ONTO MY NEW COMPUTER. I CANNOT ACCESS THE LIBRARY ON THE OLD COMPUTER. PLEASE HELP

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.

Depending on what the problem with the laptop is, you could take the hard drive out of the laptop and put it into an external hard drive caddy (laptops uasally use 2.5" drives). This should allow you to access all the files on the drive however if the hard drive is damaged you will have a harder time recovering the files.

No, they aren't holding it hostage. You are relying upon Apple to provide a service you should be doing by backing up your computer properly.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. I'm trying to transfer my library to a new computer because my old computer no longer works. I've gone through all the steps apple recommended but the ITUNES file is not recognized on my IPOD on the new computer.

2. Select the type of media you want to sync.

3. Select the Sync checkbox, and select the items you want to sync automatically each time you connect your device.
Click a button to select the kind of content you want to sync, then select the sync checkbox and select the items you want to sync automatically
The bar at the bottom of the window shows how much space will remain on your device after you sync.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
Now just synch the iPod.

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

That is not necessarily true. You are allowed to make a back-up of media you own and, at least in the Netherlands, even a copy of a work you've borrowed from a library. The law expressly permits this and you pay a certain amount for recordable media to allow for home use. See http://www.thuiskopie.nl/nl for this. If you then decide to destroy the media, i.e. do not transfer the media to someone else, I don't see how you infringe copyright by keeping the back-up. But I guess some so-called creatives like the idea of making money in all kinds of hypothetical ways...
It is a nice dream, where you have to work once and then earn a lot of money by selling millions of copies from your work. But buyers can make copies too!! Hahahahahaha!

If I make a playlist of my favorite Sax players by dragging there songs from their homepage into my playlist not purchasing them. Those songs appear along side my regular songs in my overall music library with option to buy them. The only way to get rid of them in my Music library seems to be to delete the playlist.
