How do I get my songs, photos and videos onto my Macbook?

I've had a PC for years and have just recently bought a Macbook. My iPod is currently formatted for Windows. I have about 750 songs, 500 pictures and some videos on my iPod currently. When I got my Macbook, I plugged my iPod into my PC and enabled it for disk use. When I connect the iPod to my Macbook it will only transfer my PURCHASED stuff from iTunes. It will not transfer my songs that were imported from my CD's or any of my videos or photos. I can't figure out how to get all my pictures and the rest of my songs onto my Mac using my iPod. Can anyone help me?

If you don't physically have the phone then there is no way for you to get the photos or videos.
Have you been backing up your phone? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 if so, you can restore that backup to your new phone and get all your contents back.

You should be importing all pics and vids taken with iphone regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update or restore
If you failed to do this, then they are very likely gone.
All you can do is try a restore from backup

I have an Intel iMac core duo with OS10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.1. I have a 3GS which I recently upgraded to an iPhone5. I sync my 3GS and headed to the store to pick up my new phone. The AT&T guy hands me instructions which says I need to update my 3GS (iOS5) device before syncing the new iPhone5 (iOS6). iTunes would not let me update beyond 10.6.1. Apple, true to its word, I rec'd iOS update on Sep. 21st. So I turned on wifi and update my 3GS to iOS6. OK now my itunes does not recognize either phone because they are both iOS6. I never thought for a moment iTunes would not recognize my devices. Now I'm perplexed. I'm worried the answer is going to cost me more money.
I do have a wintel XP at my disposal which just downloaded iTunes7 onto, but of course, I have no previous backup stored. I can't figure out how to get my apps, photos and music onto my new iPhone. so, when I try to restore, it displays message that if I want to do this it will erase everything on my 3GS. Funny how itunes 7 is compatible with XP but not Leopard, but that is another discussion.

Upgrade iTunes on the Mac and the OS if required so that you have the correct version for syncing with iOS6.
Alternatively, you can copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the Mac to the PC and then you should be able to sync to the PC without issues.
You'll still need to create a backup on the PC to restore back to the iPhone5.
You can also try backing up the 3GS to iCloud and restoring the iPhone5 from that backup, but that will not restore or sync any media.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If the old laptop was a mac also, then use your Time Machine backup to restore you user settings and files.
