How do i get my songs to show up in my music library?

My songs are on my ipod but they isnt showing up in the library. I connected the ipod to itunes and the songs are show up but the songs are grey and they wont play. What should i do?

That warning is an indication that the phone has either never been synced with the computer/iTunes library you are attempting to sync with, or has synced with another computer/iTunes library.  Your phone is designed to only sync with a single computer/iTunes library.  When you attempt to sync with another one iTunes will first delete all iTunes media from your phone and then replace it with the media in the library you are attempting to sync with.  This can't be changed.  When you sync all music will be deleted from your phone and only the music in the library you are syncing with will be transferred back to your phone.  In your case, you would lose the 96 songs.
Your only option is to use 3rd party software to transfer the 96 songs to your library before you sync so they will be synced back to your phone along with your other music.  If you think the songs may have been purchased from the iTunes store you can transfer your purchases before syncing by:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes and go to preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Connect your phone, right-click on the name of your phone on the left side of iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
When done, click Apply to sync your phone.
Go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.

    Hi Spam_Valley,
I understand that you are having issues with your music displaying correctly. This may be an issues with the metadata stored within that song, and iTunes interpretation of that info.
We may need to repair this. See the following resources for information:

You're right, it would have been covered under warranty. But because of the user damage, chances are there's a 200-something dollar fee . If you explain to them that it had a defect previously, they might replace it for you at no charge. **MIGHT**. But they would have to believe that it had a defect previously.

  • HT1339 after restoring ipod nano how do I get tunes back if they are in my music library

after restoring ipod nano how do I get tunes back if they are in my music librbary- thanks

Configure the music to sync back over to your device from under its Music configuration tab.  If your library is smaller than the capacity available on your Nano, you can set it to sync your entire music library by enabling the Sync Entire Library option from under this tab. Otherwies, you'll have to select only certain artists, albums, playlists, and genres.

  • I switch computers now how do I get my songs off my ipod in my new library?

I got a new computer and installed my ipod. It shows that all my old songs are on my ipod but they are not in the library. How do I get all my songs into my library?
      Windows XP

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • How can I get Japanese characters to show up for my music in iTunes?

I am not exactly sure what generation my iPod is, but it says copyright 2004 on the back. It is 20 GB. It has no problems displaying Japanese characters if a particular song of mine is Japanese. I have my iPod set up to manually manage music. I like to carry my iPod between home and work. At both home and work, I use PCs with Windows XP Pro installed. I also use the latest version of iTunes (ver. 7.1.1.5).
However, I have run into a weird problem. On my home computer, my iTunes displays Japanese characters perfectly fine, but on my work computer, whenever there is a Japanese character, iTunes does not recognize it and puts an ugly "square" character in its place. How do I get my iTunes to display these Japanese characters properly?
    Thanks.

Well I just answered my own question. I needed to install the files for East Asian languages via the WinXP Control Panel. So if anyone else runs into this problem, there ya go!

  • How do I get my artwork to show up when I move library to second computer?

Like many, I've spent a lot of time getting my music and artwork correct and the way I want it.
I want to move it to a second computer but no matter how I try, much of the artwork doesn't follow the music.
iTune's "Get Album Artwork" will not find many of the missing ones and in some cases gets the wrong one or of low quality.
How do you duplicate iTunes exactly?
The apple support I've talked hasn't been able to help.
    Thanks!

I have my itunes in a shared folder. ITunes is all that is in the folder
Exactly what iTunes folders and files are in the Shared folder?
Is the folder named iTunes or *iTunes music* (or iTunes media).
The iTunes folder with library files and artwork files and music are stored in /user/music/iTunes/ by default.
If you change iTunes prefs Advanced - iTunes music (or media) folder to another location, the media files are stored in this new location but the iTunes library files and artwork are still located in /user/music/iTunes/.
I may have deleted songs but not trashed them. As far as I know it's almost impossible to find them now.
Use this script -> List Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0
This script recursively searches user-selected folders for files not added to iTunes and creates a text file listing their file paths.

  • How do I get blank spaces out of my Ipod's music library?

When I go to my music on my Ipod, it has a bunch of blank spaces at the top and then when I scroll down is my music. How do I get these blank spots out?

When you click these, do they open a song?
Also, you can try the swipe-to-delete method that works on normal songs, they may simply be songs with no id3 tags so they show up blank.
Correction: Just remembered, in 5.1.1 (not sure about 6.x), songs with no id3 tags show the filename. So I'm not sure why it's blank.

  • My iTunes shows a song on my iTouch but my iTouch doesn't show the song. How do I get the song to show on my iTouch?

I'm trying to add just one song to my iTouch. I've read thru the tutorials about how to do that with the new iTunes and it seems to be successful. However, when I go to look for it on my actual device, it is not there. I've been able to add songs before so I'm not sure where the problem is. iTunes or my iTouch. Any help out there for this?

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Location Services > scroll down to Find My iPhone, tap and turn location services ON.

  • I recently updated my iphone 4 and some of my music doesn't appear in artists but appears in albums, how do i get the songs to show up in artists as well?

    ***???

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
