Is this a Genius Bar type situation?
No.
It is a hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external drive situation.
I now fire up iTunes on the MBP, in the Advanced Pref I point the iTunes Media folder location to the new external HD:  /Volumes/iTune New/iTunes.
Don't do this...
But it really looks like you messed up something.
In the iTunes folder you seem to have all your music folders.
Your iTunes folder should have only these items...

What version of iTunes are you running on your computer? You need to update to the current version.

If you have an iPhone 5, you need iTunes 10.7.
If the system simply doesn't show the iPhone 4S or lower, even iPhone 5 with new iTunes, then follow this article:

Type move itunes library into the google serach bar.
It has always been very basic to always maintain  abackup copy of your computer.  Do you not have a backup copy?

    Many thanks lllaass,
The Touch Copy third party software for PC's is the way to go it seems and although the demo is free, if you have over 100 songs then it costs £15 to buy the software which seems not a lot to pay for peace of mind. and restoring your iTunes library back to how it was.

  • How do i get my itunes to recognize my replacement ipod?

i just got my new replacement ipod today, and i plugged it into my computer, and the screen is flashing "Do Not Disconnect." but my itunes is not showing any sign of recogniton with my new ipod. how do i get the program to realize that the ipod is connected, so that i can put all of my music onto it?

Whe it says "Do Not Disconnect" and doesn't show up in iTunes, it will probably show up under "My Computer" as a removable hard drive.
If it does, right click on it, and choose eject.
If it doesn't show up there, shut down the computer, once it has powered off the iPod should no longer say "Do Not Disconnect"

  • How do I get my itunes from my old PC to my new Mac?

I just switched from a PC to a Mac. When I plugged in my iphone my itunes account did not come up. How can I fix that?

Consider moving everything from your Windows PC to your Mac in a single move, including your iTunes library: About Windows Migration Assistant - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4796 - Learn about how to use Windows Migration Assistant to migrate your files from a Windows PC to a Mac.
Quick answer for just iTunes if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • How do i get my itunes of my old pc to my new mac mini?

hi, i just got a mac mini to replace a pc...how do i transfer my itunes, itunes u ect to my new mac? thanks

The easiest way is to transfer the whole iTunes library using an external drive. Just follow these steps > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751
You have to do the "Restoring your iTunes Library backup" step on your Mac mini. After restoring your iTunes library, open iTunes and you will see that your iTunes files are exactly the same as on the PC

  • New computer, how do i get the itunes off the old one

I want to put all my iTunes from my old computer on my new one, any way i can do that?

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the two computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. Here are a few links that may help you out:
New PC & moving iTunes library
Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
iTunes: Copying music between authorised computers with iTunes for Windows
Another way would be to use an external hard drive, the guide for using the iPod as a hard drive is a good starting point. Just ignore the sections on enabling the iPod as a hard drive. If you substitute "external hard drive" for "iPod" the process is the same: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • New Windows install. New iTunes install. Old library: How to?

Some time in the next couple of days, I'll be installing iTunes onto a new install of Windows, and attempting to import the old library and files from the machine's previous (and dying) hard disk. I know I can just import the music, but the person I'm doing this for would like to preserve library metadata not stored in the files (play counts, ratings) and has a significant number of ITMS-purchased files. I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with this.
My first thought on that subject is to just use the old library in place and consolidate the music files, but have a few questions.
    1) I know that in Mac OS X one can pick which library to use by holding down the option key while starting iTunes. What's the Windows equivalent? Is there one?
    2) WIll the fact that the music is now on another physical drive make a difference (i.e. are the paths in the library data file absolute or relative)?
    3) Probably most importantly, is this even the best way to do it? Can someone suggest an alternative?
There are some additional quirks about this particular situation...
    4) The machine became unusable before the release of iTunes 7.6. I know the previous install is at least 7.0, but I have no idea about which point release.
    5) CHKDSK nuked one of the music files when fixing the old disk. I'm sure the reference exists in the old library, as iTunes has not been run since.
Finally, what's the expected behaviour (or required procedure) with respect to reauthorization of this computer to use the same ITMS-purchased files?
I guess that covers it. Thanks for any help in advance.

    No.

Try checking the content of the iTunes Music Library.xml file.

You will be asked to reauthorize the computer.

  • How do i get my itunes from my old computer to my new computer so that I can sync my iphone

    1. I had my iphone 4 synced with my old computer.
I have a new computer and want my iphone to sync with this computer.
I am not interested in any music syncing
I do not want to overwrite anything on my iphone
I want the information eg apps that appear when I sync on my old computer to work exactly the same on the new computer.
I do not want a new library.
    2.  I have tried to backup my phone on my old computer and i receive the message."iTunes could not back up the iPhone "Bronwyn's iphone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer."
To try to resolve this I have removed most photos, I am unable to remove one
I have transferred all audio recordings
I have over 200gb of space on the computer.
    3. At one time I received the following  messge  The information on the iPhone 'Bronwyn's iPhone is synced with another user account. Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?
Merge info - merges the information on this iPhone with the information from this user account.
"Replace Info" replaced theinformation on this iPhone with the information from this user account.
         Then the clickable choices .
    This box has not reappeared.
    3. I am absolutely fed up trying to find a solution.
This should not be this difficult.
I welcome any and all help
but I do ask please provide simply easy to follow steps.
    May thanks
    Bronwyn

You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
