How do I get new Mac Pro to "find" my HP LaserJet 1200n?

I have been using my HP LaserJet 1200n with my G5. The ethernet cable from the printer is plugged into my Airport Extreme Base Station. On the G5 I have checked the box "Share this Printer", and its location is given as "Local Zone". I have added a new Mac Pro, and want to use the LaserJet with it. I will be getting rid of the G5. The problem I am having is that I can not get the Mac Pro to "find" the LaserJet on its own. IF I have the G5 turned on, then and only then will the Mac Pro print via ethernet to the LaserJet. In this configuration it lists the Laserjet "@ G5". With the G5 turned off the Mac Pro Systems Prefs list the LaserJet as "idle", but when I attempt to print the Mac Pro searches for the LaserJet with no results. How do I fix this? Thanks!

Good news and bad news.
Good news: I got it to work
Bad news: It worked after about 4-1/2 hours of reading Apple and HP posts and printer manuals, and I really don't know that I did anything different I didn't do at 20 min.
To document for anyone that might search...
With a Laserjet 2100M or 2100TN connected through a Linksys router, I think what was key is to unplug and restart every network device several times, including the router itself. That's the only thing I can think of that might have made it work this time since I was doing the random monkey thing.
Pushing both buttons simultaneously on the printer gets it to divulge its IP address, but I realized I can look at my router in the browser and see where it starts assigning IP addresses (...100 in my case) and if worse came to worse, just configure a bunch of printers with ...100, ...101, etc up to the number of devices on the network since you don't know what got assigned what address (it's unrelated to which of the four ports a device is plugged into because of the wireless devices).
So you can go to the printer menu, I right click on the existing printers and clear all the printers, then hit + and then go to IP menu and pick the jetsocket choice, type in the IP address. The very last (successful) time, it knew what the printer was and picked the drivers (instead of generic postscript or PCL like it had 50 times before).
Again, I think it's the rebooting and unplugging or turning things off to force them to do a little comms handshaking. Depression to elation, all over a printer. We're just pawns in the grip of multinational hegemony. <joke>

I know nothing about your printer. However, to use it properly you must Add the printer in Print & Scan preferences.
See OS X Mavericks- Set up a printer. Also, consult the printer's user manual. With the proper setup the printer should print color or b/w automatically. If you have further problems you need to start with the printer HP's tech support.

  • How late is the new Mac Pro?

Hi! My name is Alvaro and I would like to know how much time have you had to wating for the new Mac Pro since you order untill you get it. I ordered mine last monday (january 20th) and it was the first day that the apple store put "march" as a date of shipment.
    I'm excited!!
    Thank you!

Folks been waiting for YEARS for a new mac, I suspect there is a lot of pentup demand, especially as Europe has been w/o a Mac Pro replacement or for sale for a year almost now.
Some production and manufacuring lines get shutdown during holidays around the world and you can't just push a switch when it comes to some electronic parts, wafers. And even some early production can reveal the need for changes, new firmware, and other changes. Even the operating system that they ship with is likely showing newer builds every couple weeks until they reach a universal shipped build.
So in some ways the delay can work in your favor. The first 3-4 months are often when they have a chance to test the hardware in the field. Getting software updates from vendors who also need to get their hands on new machine to see that it works properly - even FinalCut Pro 10.1 is seeing changes and improvements in how well it behaves, and that is an Apple suite.
Long overdue. Summer of 2010 will afteralll be 4 yrs since the last Mac Pro configuration, which was only an "enhanced" Early 2009 model itself. That makes it 5 yrs on the same socket and base motherboard.

  • How fast is the new Mac Pro 8 core comparred to Mac Pro 4 core?

    Hi,
I consider to update my 1.5 year old Mac Pro 2.66 ghz (4 core) to a Mac Pro 8 core. I use this machine as the center in my studio running Logic 8. I use a lot of V.I. and plugs.
Can anyone tell me anything about the gain in performance that is possible upgrading to an 8 core?
Or show me where to find information. MacWorld use to be my resource in that kind of matters, but they never use Logic as a test program.
    Thanks in advance!

    Glenn,
The new Mac Pro will be faster at everything when compared to your older PowerMac, but I think the first 2 items you list will be more dependent upon drive speed.
    1. The FSB and memory are faster in the new Mac Pro, but reading from the CD will only be as fast as the optical drive can handle.
    2. How fast the TIFF file is displayed in the Finder may be more dependent upon the read speed of the hard drive than the processing speed required to create the thumbnail view displayed by the Finder.
    3. Working in CS3 should definitely be faster. Even though you didn't want a response that linked to a test, the following BareFeat test should show how much faster CS3 is on the new Mac Pro.

  • How well does a new Mac Pro work with Adobe Premiere CC 2014

I'm trying to spec out a new Mac Pro so I can edit 4K footage from a RED camera. I currently edit using Premiere CC 2014. I've heard all kinds of bad stories with the new Mac and Premiere and was wondering if anyone has had a good experience. These are the specs I'm looking at for the mac. Thanks in advance.

Those AMD Dxxx and drivers as well as it may take a product cycle for Adobe if they are interested in the 6,1 customer base.
Dual AMD PCIe 7xxx and above even in dual setups, or of course you can throw one or two nVidia GTX 7xx into those silver "oMP" 2009-2012s (the 2008 just lacks good decent PCIe GPU performance with good graphic cards).
Also the way the nMP will 'share' and throttle to limit itself to 450W and its thermal design so that both GPUs and the processor are not both given full reign (they do when running Windows 8.1 natively - 8.1 because that is the "oldest" version supported with drivers and booting via Apple).

  • How do I get the Mac Pro (2013) to recognize 4K monitors correctly?

I have a 2013 Mac Pro, Six core, 32GB ram, FirePro 700s, 1TB storage, OS X 10.10. It's connected to a Samsung UN50HU6950FXZA 50" UHD TV via HDMI. The system info recognizes this monitor as a 120.5-inch with 7680 by 4050 resolution. WOW. In the Displays Preferences, this resolution shows up as "best for display". The actual resolution of the monitor is 3840 by 2160, but the closest scaled resolution shown is 3840 by 2025. This actually almost works ok, but requires setting the monitor to "fit" instead of 16 x 9; otherwise the image is slightly too wide for the screen. This happens whether the monitor is connected to the computers USB port or to a Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter. I've tried every combination. I've also booted from a different system disk, reset PRAM and power manager multiple times, used various combinations of monitors, disconnected all peripherals, run hardware diagnostics, everything.
I tried to use the computer with a Seiki 39-inch UHD monitor and it also showed up with these weird resolutions sometimes on startup, maybe once in five times. I thought it was a monitor problem, so tried the Samsung.
There's more, too. The machine doesn't play well with multiple monitors if one of the monitors is a 4K., it is not happy when I uses Spaces with a 4K monitor. In some cases, Final Cut Pro or Premiere CC will get jerky playback, the mouse pointer develops trails, other symptoms that look like graphics card failure. Only a restart corrects these issues.  When the computer wakes from sleep and a 4K monitor is used, the application windows do not come back to the same place on the screen; with 2 monitors, the windows may come back on the wrong screen or the menu may be on the wrong screen, or both.
I wonder if anyone else is having similar problems. I have been on chat and phone with Apple support multiple times over this issue doing screen sharing and various diagnostics.  While they keep trying and escalating, no real progress has been made. I bought the Mac Pro to be able to work with 4K video and actually display it. So far it works, but there are lots of compromises and work-arounds. Apple has suggested bringing the machine to the Apple Store, but since it works fine with smaller monitors, that probably won't help. I finally got a support person to say they may need to try on-site service. I have a call scheduled for Monday--so maybe something will happen.
The Pro is a great machine, but this stuff has been driving me crazy for months now. It's a great machine that just isn't ready for 4K yet

The available display proprieties are based on information that the monitor/TV sends to the Mac. It appears it is not sending the correct info.
You said " This happens whether the monitor is connected to the computers USB port or to a Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter.".
I am confused about the reference to USB.
Does the TV have a displayport or mini displayport input, that is best to use.
Try using the free Display Menu app from the Mac app store. I have to use that to get 3840x2160 (native resolution) on my Dell monitor)

  • How do I get my Mac Pro to see the second monitor through a video splitter and/or switcher?

In a recording studio we have a Mac Pro with two video display monitors in the control room and we want to be able to show the content of the second monitor to the person in the recording room on a big display monitor there. However, when we interpose a switcher or splitter between the computer and the second monitor so that we can (with a switcher) switch the second monitor signal from the control room monitor to the record room monitor or (with a splitter) split the signal to go to both monitors, we have no luck. On startup the computer does not see the monitor through the switcher, so it doesn't recognize its existence. If we start the computer up without the switcher in the signal chain, it sees the second monitor just fine, and (weirdly enough) we can then change the cabling to interpose the switch, which then works to switch back and forth between second monitors (control room and record room), but that cable swapping's a royal PITA. We want a simple solution that will allow us to start up the computer, see the second monitor in the control room, then choose to show it to the person in the record room with a simple flip of the switch (or even better, split the signal so it's available both places). The splitter we've tried most recently is this one: http://tinyurl.com/curen39 I'd appreciate any advice from people who have tried this configuration or something similar with success. We have a full ProTools HD Accel 3 system installed, so there's no room to install a second video card. Thanks.

Thanks for the response! Yes, it's a 5x70 video card, a 5770 I believe. In any case, it does have the three ports, but (a not-well documented fact) that doesn't mean one can really get three full-resolution signals out of it at one time, as you alluded to in your message. So, yes, we did try hooking all three up directly to the computer, but the computer would only recognize two of those monitors, and the only way to get it to "de-recognize" the second monitor and recognize the third monitor was to physically disconnect the second monitor.
I did say when you want to connect three monitors to 5x70's there are some rules to adhere to.  These are covered in the first two apple docs mentioned above, or by title:
Mac Pro (Mid 2010), Mac Pro (Early 2009): Issues with three displays and multiple DVI, HDMI connections
Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Supported display configurations
The general gist of these rules is that to drive three monitor son a 5x70 you need two active adapters.  That is why one of your monitors was disabled when you tried to add a third.
Here's a good explanation of what's going in here and why you need two active adapters on these cards:
Active vs. Passive Displayport adapters *the truth*
If you use DVI monitors and any of them have resolutions less than 1920 x 1200 then you can use single link active adapters. The "AMD Eyefinity Validated Dongles" chart shows some active (and passive) adapters that are acceptable.  For example of a single link DVI active adapter is the Accell B087B-006B.  An example of a dual link DVI active adapter would be the one from monoprice.com if you need to connect monitors with a resolution greater than 1920 x 1200.
I'm doubtful that SwitchResX would be able to convince the computer that there were only two monitors connected and direct the second monitor signal to the correct place, but it certainly seems worth a try, so thanks for the idea! Any other ideas are still welcome in the meantime.
I'm not doubtful.  It is a very powerful utility for dealing with all aspects of multiple monitor configurations (they call them "Display Sets") complete with forcing EDID information if necessary.  The different configurations can be controlled with a (contextual) menu and/or hot key.
SwitchResX is academic at this point if you want to have all three monitors connected.  You would need to get that working first.  Then use SwitchResX to vary the configuration combinations.  So if you go this route the "name of the game" is figure out the active adapters you need.
I only described in general terms above about the adapters since you never said exactly what kind of connections these monitors require (single link DVI, dual link DVI, hdmi, mini-displayport, vga).

    Hi Melanie
Why does it have to be an internal Blu-ray drive? How many computers are you getting?
I would recommend purchasing the OWC Mercury Pro FireWire 800/400, eSata, USB 2.0 SATA 5.25 Case Kit and choosing your own SATA Blu-ray burner to install in the case. That way you can connect it to just about any MacPro, MacBook Or even a PC if necessary.

Or if you don't want to build your own, OWC has several that they have built for you but I haven't been keeping up with any other them enough to recommend a specific Blu-ray burner. In any case, here are a couple likes.

i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

If you bought them on your iPad then you will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library and you can then sync them to your iPhone - ringtones are a one-time only download, so you won't be able to redownload them directly on your phone.

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
