How do I get non-iTunes content to stream to AppleTV via airplay?

I have recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and I want to use the airplay feature to stream web content to my AppleTV. I saw how to enable airplay in iTunes and did that. The icon was there and my AppleTV showed up in the list when I clicked it. It is my understanding that I need to have a recent version of hardware to make use of airplay. I have a Macbook Air, late 2010 version.
My AppleTV is on. I can stream to it with an iPad, so it is functioning. When I select content in iTunes, nothing happens. The video window appears and starts playing and... nothing. Ultimately I want to be able to stream from other apps like Safari. Any ideas?

You would have to turnoff match to manually sync those files to your phone, the. Turn match back on so you can use it like you normally would for all your match able music. iTunes works the same way now with match and your music like it does for iCloud and your contacts and calendars. In order to prevent duplication, you can't sync with a cloud service and manually on a computer the same information, unless you temporarily disable the cloud-type service - in your case iTunes match

For the last three days I have been pulling my hair out wondering why I can't sync Movies or TV Shows to my iPad using either the USB cable or WiFi in iTunes since installing Mavericks.

I recently won a new iPad in a drawing, and am now trying to figure out how to sync some of my music on it through iCloud. The issues here are 1) I don't own any music from the iTunes store (all my music was ripped from my own CD collection), and 2) I'm not interested in shelling out $25/year for iTunes match until I see how the iCloud experience works. Thus, what I'd like to do is use my free 5 GB iCloud allotment to store some of my music in the cloud so that I can access it on my iPad without having to use up my iPad's limited storage (I only won the 16 GB model, most of which is tied up with movies for my kids). The trouble I'm having is that I can find no way to move any of my music files up to iCloud. How does one do this? I've tried creating a new iTunes library containing just the songs I want to put on iCloud, but I can't find any way to move these files. Help would be greatly appreciated!

The iCloud service is not meant for this. That's what iTunes Match is for, and there's a reason it costs extra. If anything, there may be a third-party app that offers the possibility.
Alternatively, you can use Google Music to store up to 20,000 songs online free of charge: https://play.google.com/music/
...but this doesn't offer the close integration with various iThings and software that iTunes Match offers, nor does it upgrade your existing collection where possible, nor does it clean up your library or song information like iTunes Match can. You can get some competant, if slow, apps to use Google Music on your iThings.

Does this mean your contacts are not available with the Contacts app? When you open the Contacts app, select Groups at the top. What is available after selecting Groups?
And you are trying to open them in iCloud how? With a browser on your computer since there is no other way with an iPhone besides with the Contacts app?

Airfoil will work and it's free to try.
Native system audio streaming support to an AirPort Express is incorporated in newer model Macs and OS X versions, and I don't recall what its minimum system requirements are. Check System Preferences > Sound. Your Express's remote speakers will either appear as a sound output option, or not. If it does you don't need anything else.

I used the migration assistant, and a firewire cable, to move my "Music" folder to the new mac, but it insisted that I create a new user on the new mac for the data, rather than giving me a choice to move it into my user account. Also, based on some info from The Missing Manual and the Take Control books I created a separate user that is not an Administrator on the computer to be my primary login. When I simply tried to copy the music folder - iTunes failed to open. And because I am not an admin I can't access the new folder to copy it while I am in my non-admin user on the new computer. I have looked through as many of the posts as I could wade through and didn't see anything quite as simple as I think my problem is. Thanks, in advance.

Did you use Migration Assistant to move all you contents or did you create a new account on the new Mac before transferring?
I had a similar problem when I got my MBP as I created an account on the new Mac at the store to confirm that the MBP was ok. Mistake. I got how home and had loads of issues so I ended up reinstalling the system on the new MBP and using Migration Assistant to move ALL my stuff from the old to the new.
Another choice is to clone your old Mac to an ext HD then swap that cloned HD with the HD in your new Mac.
Regardless of which way you go make sure you de-authorize your old Mac before getting rid of it.

You can tap on the account in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores if it's on iOS 6) and log out of it and then log in with yours. But if any of the apps that are currently on the iPad were downloaded by her account then only her account will be able to download updates to those apps - content from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, not to the account that is currently logged in.

I'm helping a music group fix their CD information, which was incorrect in the Gracenote database. Gracenote made the corrections, but the iTunes store is not reflecting the changes. I verified the changes were made by inserting the CD on a PC, and, through the iTunes client, asking it to pull the track info from Gracenote. The info is correct.
However, if you use the iTunes client to go to the store, the info in the store does not match what was pulled when sticking the CD in the drive and querying Gracenote. The official Content Provider relationship with the Store depends how it was set up, and may be the group or their agent or a 3rd party such as TuneCore. They can go back through the same official channel that put the tracks in the Store in the first place.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You first need to sign into the account in iTunes on your laptop, then you need to transfer the content from your moms laptop and import it into iTunes on yours. You can do this in a number of ways, either over a network, with an external drive, or even a USB stick.
If you go to iTunes preferences > advanced on your moms laptop, it will tell you where the original files can be found.

2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
