How do I get OS X Lion workstation to bind to OS X Leopard Server?

I encounter insurmountable error when trying to get my new mac mini to bind to my network server.
Mac Mini running Mac OS X 10.7.2
XServer running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8
On the mini, when in System Preferences > Users & Groups and clicking Join... I type in the IP of my Server.  It firstly returns the message, "This server does not provide a secure (SSL) connection.  Do you want to continue?".
After I click Continue it prompts for Client Computer ID (which I leave as the default).
For User Name and Password I enter the Directory Admin details.
It then returns the error, "Unable to add server.  Your account on the server does not have privileges to overwrite the computer record <computername>.  Please inform the server administrator.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Tony,
Thank you for your tip.
Using Server Admin > OD > Settings > Policies > Binding, I have ensured that the 'Enable authenticated directory binding' option in unchecked.  Still no luck.
I then used Directory Utility to add the server to the search path etc.  In System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options on the mini it now shows the correct address for the Network Acccount Server and a green light.  However, when I then try to login using a network account it simply pauses for a minute, then returns to the login prompt.
I shall continue to try...

What, specifically, is your Mac model?

  • How to I get rid of Lion and get back to Leopard?

Please tell me how to get rig of Lion.  Leopard was absolutley perfect, I want it back!!!  Thanks.

The general rule (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186) is that you do not run an earlier version than what came with the system.  In the case of systems sold since July this year, Lion is basically your only viable option (aside from a few success stories running SL).
If you have had the system for years, then simply re-install the last Leopard backup after erasing the internal drive.

  • How can I get my Korg M50 Workstation to work in Logic?

I'm assuming I have to get a MIDI interface.... Will this allow me to use the sounds on my Korg keyboard in Logic 8 Express and record them in Logic in perfect quality? In Logic, how do I get it to recognize my Korg?
Any help would be great, I'm new to all of this and the manual is making me nuts!

Learn something: Nothing in life is "safe". But you can buy one if you really want to However, like i said: If you have the opportunity to test one in the store, go for it.
I would recommend a firewire interface, but that's totally up to you. Many here would recommend the Apogee Duet, but we've heard of broken devices there, too. I myself have a broken Alesis that needs multiple plug into USB / pull out of USB to start up, but once it works, it is great. I used an Edirol UA-25 EX with great pleasure and usually work with the Tascam Fireone.
To test the Thing, connect a dynamic mic and record something with the Gain knobs turned to full gain. Listen to the hiss. Listen to the soft background noises of the room you are testing in (maybe cough or tell something far away from the mic, hear a car passing by or so). Buy the one with the least hiss while having clear and crisp background noises.

  • How do I get an older version of Pages to work on Snow Leopard? (I already purchased it on App Store a while back)

I purchased Pages on the App store a while back and I can't get it any more on my computer.
I have an early 2006 MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which is the highest it would go to, and it isn't compatible with the new Pages version. How can I get an old version?
    Thanks

Just wanted to spare you the details. I bought the app on a newer MacBook Pro a few years ago, which I no longer use. I upgraded my old MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard so that I can have the App store. So, the situation now is that I can't have a higher version of Mac OS X, and the only available versions of Pages and Numbers on the App store are ones that are compatible with 10.9 or higher. Therefore, I am trying to find a way to access older versions that I can use...

  • How can i get iTunes on my new lap top to look at my server for the music

I have a new lap top with vista ultimate. I can't get it to "see" the music stored on the server, so my iTUnes on the lap top is blank.
How can i get my iTunes on my new lap top to look at my server for the music?
someone mentioned creating an alias on the server and then dragging that onto the c: drive iTunes folder?
    Can anyone help me?

They should be in your itunes media folder. Use an external hard drive and just copy that to your new computer. I'm sure there's an easier way like this one (iTunes>File>Library>Export Library>External Hard Drive) but I never tried it before. Anyways, once that's done, just simply authorize your itunes account to play music you bought on to the new computer.

  • HT204014 How can I get spotlight search to work over a network running OS X Server?

I have installed OS X Server on an iMac to share its files over a network.
I can access the files fine, but if I try and search the shared folders from another Mac on the network it yields no results.
How can I get search to work as well as it does on the files on local disks.

Spotlight searching of shared volumes works for me using OS X 10.10.3 Server and OS X 10.10.3 client, as follows:
If I use Spotlight to search for some content "Aaron Aardvark" the file that contains this text does not seem to show up in the immediate results, but if I select "Show All in Finder" and switch from "This Mac" to "Shared" the file "untitled text.txt" that contains it is listed.
In the past Spotlight was responsible for bringing servers to their knees, so I suspect that the above two-step process is a way of limiting server searches to cases where it is actually required.
Server 4.1 (OS X 10.10.3) seems to add the extended attributes needed to allow Spotlight to index sharepoints:
         test_server3:~ admin$ ls -el /Volumes/Server\ 3\ Users/
         total 0
         drwxr-xr-x+ 4 admin  staff  136 30 Apr 17:02 Server 3 Users
          0: user:_spotlight inherited allow list,search,file_inherit,directory_inherit
         test_server3:~ admin$
but in the past, e.g. Snow Leopard server, you could choose whether or not these attributes were set or not. IIRC  Snow Leopard clients would always include server volumes in Spotlight searches, causing significant slow-downs on the client, so a lot of sysadmins, myself included, chose not to enable it.

  • How can I get two-sided print on Canon Pixma IP3000  with Snow Leopard?

I've just upgraded to Snow Leopard and find that duplex printing is no longer available. How do I get it back?

You should have a menu item called Duplex Printing and Margin. This is part of the v10.26 driver that is provided via Software Update.
This was the same menu item that was available with the v4.8.3 driver that was included with OS X 10.5. If you were not using this menu previously with 10.5 then maybe you were using the iP3000 Gutenprint driver?

  • How to resolve network issue or dns to access web page on snow leopard server?

I have my network setup like as follows:
    internet > router 1 > ethernet ports > switch > router 2
I have a mac osx snow leopard server connected to "router 1", but it is so slow when accessing a web page hosted on the server from a browser on a workstation connected to either router 1 or router 2?
Is there a problem with my network setup or maybe because I changed the name to newservername.local?

    @Jeff and @Camelot,
I think it is a DNS issue.  I completely reset the DNS settings on server and the local name with the steps below, but now cannot access the site hosted on the server at all
I used a modified version of http://www.mkahn.com/2010/09/configuring-dns-on-mac-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard-serve r-for-hosting/ to reset the server set
    1.  Stop DNS Service in Server Admin
    2.  Close Server Admin
    3.  Obtain 10.6 DNS Default files (below)
    4.  Overwrite the DNS files with DNS Default files:
    /etc/dns/loggingOptions.conf.apple
    /etc/dns/options.conf.apple
    /etc/dns/publicView.conf.apple
    /var/named/named.ca/etc/named.conf
    /var/named/named.local
    /var/named/localhost.zone
    5. Restart your server
All machines have 1ms ping responses within the network including this snow leopard server that I am trying to setup.  There is another test web server that return pages instantly within this network so I doubt it is a network issue, but a DNS issue.

  • I registered Apple developers how do I get a mountain lion Osx Download Code?

    Hello,
I registered Apple developers have now the lion OS 10.7.4, I want to upgrade to a mountain lion Osx 10.8, I read that developers can get a download code to download the mountain lion Os from the App store, The question is how I do it?
    i add a screen shot.

Are you a registered Mac developer? In not, you must be to have access to the developer versions of OS X.
    Details on registration are HERE.

  • How can i get rid of Lion? and reload 10.6?

My previous MBP's screen stopped working, and would be prohibitively expensive to repair. So i upgraded to a mid 2010 model 17"MBP, which i bought from Apple as a refurb -because it didn't have Lion on it , thus, my Adobe software and several other pieces of software would still be supported.
I used it for about 3 hours and the HD died, so i had to send it in for a repair. It just came back today, with a new HD that had Lion loaded on it.
Which means a great deal of my work software (which works fine on 10.6) will need to be upgraded and i can't afford to do that.
SO.... how can i dump Lion (which i HATE for various reasons.. worst OS ever if you actually use the machine for work) and then re-upload OS10.6? I have a call in to support now.. to see what they will do.. Sorry for the rambling, but i'm extremely ****** off...

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
