How do I get past error - 8003 so I can empty trash?

When I try to empty trash I get the error message -8003
What needs to be done so I can empty the trash?

Launch Terminal.app(/Applications/Utility/Terminal), then type
cd ~/.Trash
chflags -R nouchg *
Then empty trash in Finder as usual.

  • Error -8003 when trying to empty trash

I get this error code when trying to empty the trash, and the trash won't empty.
What does it mean and how do I get the trash to empty?
    thanks

The most common cause for this problem is deleting stuff from a Time Machine backup using the Finder. This pretty irrevocably destroys your backup in addition to clogging the trash with files that are difficult to delete. If this is what you have done, your easiest and most reliable course of action will be to erase your backup drive using Disk Utility and start a brand new backup. And then never touch your backup in the Finder ever again.
If that isn't what happened, let us know.

  • Error 8003 when attempting to empty trash

After setting up my new iMac and migrating my G4 over, I ran a back up of my new HD and then opened the backup drive and dragged the no longer needed G4 backup to the trash.  Unfortunately I can't seem to empty the trash now.  Every time I try I get an error 8003.  Any insight to this problem would be appreciated.

I went back and looked at some previous discussions of this issue and found a post that recommended a utility called "Cocktail".  I downloaded it and it worked beautifully.  My trash is now empty.  I'll have to go back to that discussion and give the poster an excellent recommendation.

  • How do I get past Error 1913 when installing LabVIEW 7 Express

I get this error, yet I can see the file in the exact location the error tells me to locate it in. Apparently LabVIEW 7 does not create the labview.ini file. The file I see present was copied from LabView 6.

    Hi,
Are you trying to install to a mapped network drive? This is not supported so could be the cause. It could also be that you are trying to install on a NT/2000/XP machine in which case you need to have local administrator rights to be able to write to this file.
    Hope this helps,
    Nick

  • Error 8003 while trying to empty trash

    Hello,
I'm getting this error quite often while emptying trash and I have to use application named Trash It. But is there any real solution to this?
    1) Yes, I have manually deleted Time Machine backup from external HD, actually many times (due to some problems it was backing up around 15-20 GBs daily quickly filling my drive). It never gave me this error though.
    2) I have used Disk Utility, it says there are no issues with HD and permissions were fixed.
There is no pattern to this. Like today I wasn't able to delete two screenshots from desktop (moved to trash, error 8003) and I had to use Trash it. External HD wasn't even connected (Time Machine HD).
Any ideas? At worst I hope Lion will be DVD burnable (I saw some tips on net how to do it) and I will be able to format HD and make clean install.
    Thanks.

I always delete whole backup, never just particular file. Should be save according to site you pointed me at:
Sometimes you may want to delete ALL backups.  Sounds easy, but like so many things, it depends on the circumstances:
If there is other data on the volume, you can delete the Backups.backupdb folder, but it will take a very long time (as there may be from several hundred thousand to a few million files), and you may have trouble with locked files and/or permissions.  If possible, it’s much better to delete the backups individually as above, or copy the other data elsewhere temporarily, erase the volume with Disk Utility, and copy the data back.  (This is why a separate partition for Time Machine backups is advised.)
I see the "you can". :-)

  • How do you get past error 2908

Recently I 'lost" all my contact list off my iphone 3. Tried to remove the itunes from my pc and reload all the info. I keep encountering an error 2908 and cannot download itunes on to my PC. Has anyone else experience this error and how can I fix it.

They came with iLife already installed
Updates can only be installed from the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchase of the apps.

  • Hi, I tried to erase my computer and when I turned it back on it went to internet recovery. How do I get past that step so I can use my computer again?

I really need this. I am still in school and I have papers due, please anything will help!

It's not clear what you tried to do or why, but if you intended to wipe everything clean, run the OS X Installer in Internet Recovery. When it's done, the machine will be in the same state as when you took it out of the box, except that the bundled iLife applications will be gone. All your data will be gone too. If that's not what you want, DO NOT follow these instructions.

The backup and restore from the iCloud was a little unnerving since the restore erased all information from the iPod.  The iCloud backup and restore took a long time, but worked.  I was very grateful.
Trying again to backup to iTunes locally proved to be the same challenging problem.  The same backup to corrupt file was the message.  The status bar showing backup seemed to move faster to start, but then slowed to a creep toward the end before the error.
When trying to restore a backup in iTunes, the "Restore" button is grayed out since it is looking for a local copy.  Any restore would need to be from the iCloud which already worked but isn't the final solution.
Your suggestions were good, I am just in the same boat.  Any thoughts about doing the following?
    1) creating a cloud backup
    2) resetting the iPod to factory defaults
    3) removing all traces of iTunes from my computer and
    4) installing iTunes and setting up iPod from scratch.
This is the next thing on my list.

  • How do i get past the "do not have sufficient privileges" error message installing flashplayer?

how do i get past the "do not have sufficient privileges" error message installing flashplayer? i've googled the problem and seen the other solutions and for some reason cannot get any of them to work for me.

I've recommended several things here in the forums and like you, I've seen zero success.
Run as Administrator = no luck.
Take ownership of the c drive = no luck.
Create a new (admin) account = no success.
I've even seen one poster who reformatted and reinstalled Window 7, and no luck.
Frankly, I'm at a total loss.
