how do i get photos from my macbook onto my iphone5. i transferred iphone photos to iphoto, and now they disappeared from my phone! something went wrong!

On your Mac: open System Preferences, select iCloud. Either create an account, or login if you already have one. Ensure that everything you want to synchronise between your Mac and your iPhone is ticked. In this case especially 'Photo Stream', but I find it useful to synchronise Calendars, Notes, Contacts and Reminders. If you use an @me.com email address then synchronise Mail as well - I don't.
On your iPhone: go into Settings, select iCloud. Login to your account (if necessary). Ensure that 'Photo Stream' is turned on.
That's it, photo's taken on your iPhone will automatically synchronise with your Mac, and photos in the 'Photo Stream' folder of iPhoto on your Mac will automatically synchronise with your iPhone.
There are other advantages to setting up iCloud if you have both a Mac and an iPhone, e.g. 'Find my Mac' which despite it's name enables you to find your iPhone as well, which let's face it is much more likely to get lost or stolen.

You need to put the folder of pictures somewhere on the computer that contains iTunes. After connecting the phone to the computer, selecting the phone and looking in iTunes, go to the Photos tab and select these photos and sync.

Getting Photos from Computer to Iphone

I am using the Kodak Gallery on my Mac Book for managing my pictures instead of I Photo. I know how to sync pictures in Itunes to the IPhone, BUT it only lists options to sync entire folder (for ex.. 2500 pictures. ) What if I only want to sync several pictures from Computer. Does anyone know how to do this. It only gives an option on I tunes for syncing entire folder?

With iPhoto, each album created is available to select when choosing selected albums for the iPhone sync preferences.
Since this isn't available when using Kodak Gallery, you must create a separate folder and place the photos that you want available on your iPhone in the created folder - choosing this folder as the one you want transferred to your iPhone.
If you want multiple folders or albums available on your iPhone, create a parent folder that doesn't include any photos - the parent folder will include folders that contain photos. Select the parent folder as the folder you want transferred to your iPhone and the folders within that contain photos will be transferred as separate albums.
Much easier to do when using iPhoto IMO.

so far, photostream seems to be working fine as far as moving pics from my iPhone to Aperture 3/iPhoto.
After the IOS5 update, I realized I have none of the pictures on my phone I originally had.

I think the original poster may have the same issue I'm facing...
iTunes does not sync Aperture pictures to the iPhone if they originate from Photostream! That is, in Aperture I have events like "Jan 2012 Photostream", "Feb 2012 Photostream" and so on. But those events do not sync with the iPhone via iTunes! That's why the photos that originally used to be on the Photostream, but have since deleted because they have become more than 30 days old, are no longer on your iPhone.
I've been trying with AppleCare to sort out the issue, but so far they don't seem to know what's causing it. I think it's probably a bug in either Aperture or iTunes.

Today I deleted all my photos on the iphone via windows explorer, then I realized that I wanted some on there.
Many attempts through itunes to sync have failed. I created a folder for just the photos I want. I choose that in itunes. It says it finds the right number of photos and it goes as far as saying it copied them. I go back to the iphone and no photos.
I've tried unchecking the box, the re-checking, closing itunes, shutting off the phone, reboot the computer. all to no avail.

I just checked my settings. Under general, it says 11 videos and 59 photos. I restarted the iphone again, and they are not in the photos section.

Thanks for the help, but i've actually done that before.
It does not help, because it only shows the photos on the camera roll and do not show the photos synchronized with that pc that i dont have access anymore.
The photos/albums all appear on the ipad, i can see it without problems but i cant get them out of the ipad to save onto pc for backup.
And i reaaly need it, as it is the only place that i actually have these photos now...

These are the steps for adding digital photos to an iPad using iTunes:
Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer and select your device.
Click the Photos button.
Select “Sync photos from” and choose an album or folder from the pop-up menu.If you’re using Adobe Photoshop Album or Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can export photos directly from those applications to your device by choosing Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose whether to move all your folders or albums, or only selected folders or albums.
To also move the full-resolution versions of these photos to your iPod, select “Include full-resolution photos.”Note: To move the photos from your iPod to another computer, select this option, and also select “Enable disk use” in the Summary pane. This option isn’t available on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad. For more information, see Use iPod as an external hard drive.
Click Apply.If it’s the first time you’re adding photos to your iPod, iPhone, or iPad, it might take a while, but subsequent syncs should be faster.

Another way.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.
