How do i get photos from iphoto library over to photoshop elements for editing?

how do i get photos from iphoto library over to photoshop elements 10 for editing?
this is an iMac that I just got so its all new to me...
thank you

If you set PSE as external editor, be sure you pick the right file, which is not by any means the logical choice. You want this one:
You can also export the photos from iphoto, edit them and save them under new names and reimport the edited photos as new files. This is more trouble, but lets you save as many different versions of your image as you like (iphoto only remembers the last edited version + original).

  • How to import photos from iPhoto Library to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor?

I can't use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor to edit photos from iPhoto Library. If I choose File, Open, and then select 'iPhoto Library', error message is "could not complete your request because of a program error."

You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like.

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • How do I move photos from iPhoto Library to Finder?

When I got my Mac I wasn't sure how to transfer photos from my PC.  I made the mistake of importing about 1/2 of them, abt. 19,000 into iPhoto.
I prefer to use Photoshop Elements and a hierarchical file system, ie. Pictures>Critters>wild birds>owls>Great Grey etc. None of iPhoto's little tricks like facial recognition are useful to me.
Can I just go into the iPhoto Library package and drag the Masters folder into my Pictures folder, then uninstall iPhoto?

You can use Photoshop and the external editor from within iPhoto for seamless editing with PS. Just note the warnings in red in Step 3. Othere than that you have the best of both worlds.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
However, it may be that iPhoto is not the application for you.

  • How do I transfer photos from 'iPhoto Library' to external HD?

Hello everyone.  I have an iPhoto back up question for you all.  I've recently had severe troubles with my 2010 21.5 inch iMac.  After an OSX update, the system suffered all kinds of problems, and I am unable to even open the majority of my apps without getting error messages.  Something is seriously wrong - possibly with the physical HD.  In any case, I am attempting a clean install of OSX to fix the issue.
I'm in the process of transferring all of my important files to an external drive so I can migrate them to the clean OSX.  However as you're all aware iPhoto likes to make this difficult.  Just to clear this up right now, I CANNOT open iPhoto, so I must do this through the iPhoto Library package.  That is the ONLY option.
Anyway, I've viewed the package contents, and I notice two folders, one 'Originals' and the other 'Modified'.  There is also a data folder, but it is my understanding it is just thumbnails.  In the past, like when I bought this iMac and needed to move the files from my old iMac, I just copied a folder from my iPhoto library in Finder and dragged it into the iPhoto window on the new computer, and all my photos were loaded.  The file structure must be different now though, because I don't remember 2 folders.  I presume one contains modified versions of photos, or worse yet, the data for a single picture is split between them.
Which folder should I transfer to my external HD?  Or should I move both?  And will I still be able to just drag the folders into the iPhoto program?  I will be reinstalling to Snow Leapord.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

No.  Case sensitive can cause problems.  Reformat it as shown below:
Also once you change the location of the library you should launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the library in it's new location.  Just clicking on the library on the EHD will open the last opened library which will be the one in your Pictures folder.

  • How do I get photos from iPhoto to my new computer?

I have a new MacBook Pro and I am using the copy-paste method of getting data from my exteranl hard drive to the new computer. I am doing this rather than using the migration assistant to avoid putting any corrupt files on the new MacBook Pro. My problem is that I have many photos in iPhoto on my old MacBook Pro that I would like to transfer to the new one and I can not figure out how to do this. Any advice on a step by step process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Phillijr

If you do not want to use Migration Assistant, email the photos to your new computer.  Use Transfer Big Files.  It's free up to 1GB.

  • How do I get photos from iPhoto via Time Machine?

    Hi,
I have iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and am unable to find my photos through Time Machine.  I tried following the previous discussions on how to do this but I did not find a Master's folder when searching on package contents after right clicking on iPhoto in Time Machine.
I accidentally deleted some photos in iPhoto the other night and was hoping that I could easily retreieve them from my Time Machine Back-ups but this is not the case.  Where the heck are the iPhotos photos stored?  I have a MacBookPro running version 10.8.5.
Thanks in advance for your help-
    Sheri

    Thanks, LN
I only need to retrieve a few photos...not the entire library.  Where is the master's folder located, specifically?  I was unable to find it and I looked very thoroughly through all of the folders.

  • How can I get photos from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements?

I installed Photoshop Elements 10 on my new MacBook Pro because I want to do some additional editing.  I have 800 pictures that I downloaded into iPhoto before I purchased PSE.
How can I open the pictures in PSE?
The instructions on the PSE website do not seem to refer to the version of iPhoto I have (the screens and menus are different.

I used this advice and was able to open the some photos in iPhoto and edit in PSE.   I would like to save them to another file, outside iPhoto.   Is that possible?
Sure - save As istead of save - then the edited [photo will not be in iPhoto but will be where you put it
I would also like to open PSE and open the files from PSE, possible?
You can - use the open command and the media browser - look in the lower left hadn corner of the open windos under media  ==> photos  ==> iPhoto - but why use iPhoto at all if you do not want your photos in iPhoto - if you do the edits this way you will not have them in iPhoto
Perhaps I need to move the photos out of iPhoto and then open with PSE.
Again you can do that - select the photo in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) and work on the exported photos - again
but why use iPhoto at all if you do not want your photos in iPhoto - if you do the edits this way you will not have them in iPhoto
Just now learning Mac, so I think I may still be thinking in PC.
It is not so much Mac vs PC but database photo management vs file management - the iPhoto database structure is infinantly more powerful that an file approach like you used on a PC

  • I tried to copy 2,000  photos from iPhoto (v9.2) to Photoshop Elements 13 Organizer. It looked like they all copied, but then I got a crash report that the program had unexpectedly quit. I can't get back in to remove any photos. What do I do now?

I have repeatedly tried to re-open PE13 Organizer with no luck. The first time there was a message that the catalog was being organized and then it crashed. From that time on, I only get a crash message that it unexpectedly quit. How can I get the photos off the organizer so I can open it back up again? Thanks!

    zna22121,
Close computer down, and restart. If it does not work, it should, then re-install. But, do not attempt more than 200 at a time it just cannot handle it ?
    Good luck
Ps. I just dislike Organiser, (it is too slow, and disorganised) you can go from PE 13 Editor ( My wife tried it and went back to PE 6 ) and Process Multiple Files only 200 at a time. in Photoshop Elements, Organizer may handle it ?
We often do video production stills of 2,000 from PE 6 and we know it works ,when you use the images in Adobe CS5.5.2 Premiere Pro..for HD & Blue -ray transfers.. It is very easy ?

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

How do you import photos from a library on an external drive to the current library running in iPhoto? I have a few different pictures in each library and would like to have all my pictures in both libraries. The library on the external drive is my backup. I would appreciate any help.

Depends on exactly what you want to do.
Just move some of the Photos? FIle -> Export from one and export the shots to the Finder. Then import them to the other.

Move the photos and all versions and metadata: use iPhoto Library Manager it's the only way to do this while preserving everything. Merge two Libraries into one?
If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
