How do I get possession of an iCloud email address?

At some point in the not too distant past, I remember having to create an iCloud email address. It will be associated with my apple ID, but I cant use it. I know noone else has it because the email server gives a bounceback.
How do I get in touch with Apple? I'm not stupid, and they seem to have made it as diffucult as possible.

If you sign in with that address at System Preference>iCloud and check Mail there you can reactivate it and you will get an @icloud.com address (I'm not entirely sure whether you will actually be able to use the @me.com address as you didn't migrate earlier - you will have to check). You can't shift this address in either version to another account.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like Facebook imported to your contacts. I have the Xfinity app on my new ipad, too, but none of my stored contacts from the online version are showing, only what I manually entered into the iPads contacts are there. When I did add the FB app, I did not grant it permission to push and pull from my ipad (not a fan of FB knowing every detail about me), so that may be where our difference lies. You could try to open the app and change your privacy settings, or delete it and then reinstall without granting permissions to integrate.
I'm sure someone here with a lot more knowledge then me can probably diagnose your issue better, though. Good luck!

If you are wishing to change your @me address, this cannot be done, however if you wish to change another address;
You need to change your details with Apple, Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.

This document details how to change an iCloud email alias. I found these steps:
In iCloud Mail, choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar.
Click Accounts.
Select the alias in the Addresses list, then do any of the following:To change the name or label, enter a new alias name and label in the fields provided. Alias names must contain between 3 and 20 characters.
Click Done.

Unfortunately you cannot change an @me.com address. Each account will require verification, if you have not yet verified your account:
Put in a request for another verification e-mail to be sent to you.
Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account
Also check your Mail rules and filtering, the verification mail may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted altogether.

FR Tecmobility is wrong, sure he means well but what he suggests will not work - signing out of iTunes Store and back in will have no effect on iCloud. Try the steps at iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
You may need to contact apple tech support if none of the password change methods work for you. Ask for Account Security. They will need to verify identity, to ensure you are who you claim to be. If that goes well, they can send a password rest e-mail to any e-mail you desigate, so make sure it is one you can access. Then reset the password. Then you can delete the iCloud account (needs the password to turn off find My Phone/Activation lock)

I have had an old iCloud account with an old email that i dont use anymore. So i lost my password and it won't let me in to that account to delete it. I got an iCloud account a year ago and used all same info on my Apple ID. So my email account got hacked into about 8 months ago and I decided to get a new email on Gmail. Old one was a yahoo email. So as I tried changing everything over like iCloud and Apple ID I got a message on my iPhone to enter my password. We'll I did and it wouldn't work at all. So I tried to have the password email it to my old email account that I canceled. So I got in to it and no email was sent to that account at all. Then I went to change it all in iCloud and it asked me to answer questions to reset my password. The first question was my birthdate. I filled it in and it didn't let me in saying it was invaded date. So I informed the genus bar and they said to cancel that account because it sounds like it has been hacked into. So I have been trying to and add another one to my phone it it will not let me now. So there lizdance40. Now can you help me or tell me how stupid I am only?

I registered for my iTools account as soon as they were offered and have had the same email address ever since.
My account has not been hacked and I regularly change my password for the account.
I frequently get emails from Apple notifying me that someone has attempted a password reset on my account.
I have over the past two years received a steady stream of emails correctly addressed to me, but obviously meant for other folks.
Some in the US and others in Europe and beyond.
The emails contain payslips, mortgage offers, confirmation of appointments for restaurants and car servicing.
Having read these and many other forums, I believe Apple, like Google allow the use of the same email address by multiple people.
This may be because even if the desired mac.com or iCloud.com or me.com addresses are unavailable, Apple allows an alias to be created.
This should not be the case. At least to my mind it should not be so.
I am most concerned that if I am able to receive their emails, they may be receiving mine.
I pay for Apple's services and expect them to be secure.
Anyone else feeling uneasy about this?

It's most unlikely that anyone else has your address: if your address (obviously don't post it here) uses a fairly common name as many of the early ones do, then you are liable to get idiots coming to the conclusion that they own it because their name is the same. They give it out, and you get their messages. It sounds insane, but it does happen quite a bit - people can be quite incredibly stupid.
It's unlikely that anyone is receiving your email, particularly as you've changed the password. You should contact Apple as even if it's the case I've described it counts as a security issue, though it's not that easy to see what can be done about it.

Stripping off the user name will give you the domain of from field in the message. This is not the same as the host. Take a look at:

How can I get back Mail Auto-Complete email addresses?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mail no longer works with the auto-complete of email address.
My Contacts.app works fine, it just seems that Mail is no longer able to 'read' from my Contacts.
I use iCloud and everything was great for years. Mail preferences is set to Auto-Complete email address from my Contacts.
Not sure how the problem started, but I launched Mail on a 2nd computer - on the same iCloud.
Shortly after I did that, my 1st Mac no longer auto-completes email. I'm unsure if that is what set off the problem.
Also, I 'did' read Tom Nelson's article which did not work since it's not an 'alias' problem:

I had the same issue. After reading this solution I started poking around in the Container folder and found that there was a symlink for AddressBook that was messed up which was causing the problem. In ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application Support I ran:
$ cd ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application\ Support
$ ls -lh
AddressBook -> ??/???7??ʪ?????VT???;??\G[?:??:??????T?_Ү??
CrashReporter
Mail
SyncServices -> ../../../../../Application Support/SyncServices
iCloud -> ../../../../../Application Support/iCloud
Seeing the aliases for SyncServices and iCloud, I guessed correctly that I just needed to recreate the AddressBook alias to point to the right place. So I just removed the alias for AddressBook, recreated it, restarted Mail, and it worked perfectly. (Note: I did the following to remove the alias, and recreate it. You should confirm what you are removing is an alias. You should also always make sure you have a backup.)
$ cd ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application\ Support
$ rm AddressBook
$ ln -s ../../../../../Application\ Support/AddressBook AddressBook
Obviously, DrewSchatt's original solution to this works as well, but this way you don't have to delete the whole folder, resetting your preferences and possibly delete something else important (only recreating the alias, not deleting any files or data).

How can I get Mail to 'forget' old email addresses?

Several work contacts have recently changed their email addresses, but when I type their names in the To: box in Mail, it brings up both the new and old addresses.
None of these email addresses are in my Address Book, Mail is obviously just picking them up from previous emails I have sent and received to/from these people.
How can I get Mail to 'forget' these old email addresses and just bring up the current ones?
(I have already accidentally sent emails to the old addresses because they are coming up in the drop-down menu. I would much prefer it to be idiot-proof and not bring the out of date addresses up at all)
