How do I get rid of a toolbar called ALOT which has become my homepage?

I accidentally downloaded the toolbar called "ALOT" and it now pops up as my homepage. How do I remove the darn thing completely. It is a nuisance.

Yes all that happened to me [but on FB as I rarely use twitter] . It was browser hijacking. I even commented about it on FB but no one saw the images except me.

Whenever I try to uninstall this crappy program I get an error message
"there is a problem with this windows installer package. a script required for this install to complete could not be run. contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I've had this happen before (it always installs wrong) and somehow I figured out how to get rid of it but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. Disabling the plug-in on the chrome toolbar does absolutely nothing.

hello ewinsberg, please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and/or a different tool like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes].

How do I get rid of a toolbar with bing, weather, similar sites, etc? I don't want it.

There suddenly appeared a toolbar on my browser that was not there before. It has - I think they are "apps". There are such things as a radio station button, the weather, facebook, bing, and so on. I do not want this toolbar at all. I don't make use of it, and it slows things down... not to mention the fact that it makes my viewing window that much smaller. Please, how do I get rid of it entirely? All I want is the navigation bar and the tabs that were there when I first downloaded FireFox. Attempts to follow directions posted on various sites as to how to remove them have not worked either.

If you are referring to Safari on your Mac then in Safari > Preferences (command-comma), on the General tab you can change 'new windows open with' and 'new tabs open with' to be your homepage instead of 'top sites'

I just updated Skype from a really old version. I am now using version 7.5.0.102 (Windows 7).
Now there's all this irrelevant crap on the right side that makes it take up almost half the width of my screen. How do I get rid of it?
I tried resizing the window but it has a minimum size set.
I tried looking around through the menus and options too but couldn't find any. I selected "compact sidebar view" but it didn't get rid of the part on the right.

I figured it out.
If you pick View -> Split Window View it will break it off into its own window. Then you can close it and it goes away.
An X in the corner of that area or a hide option in the menu would be convenient.

I'm not sure whether or not the cursor activates this problem as it happens to pass over a word that wikipedia is programed to respond to w/ this definition balloon--it happens too fast for me to back track and figure out what i might have done that triggers its appearance. Hello, I had this problem also. In Firefox 7.0.1, go to Options -> General -> Add-ons Manager -> Options -> Fastestfox Options and Uncheck "Show popup bubble" Worked for me and got rid of those annoying bubble.
I don't know if it will work in v 3.16.x
