How do i get rid of avg secure search

avg secure search was not allowed by firefox because it was 'incompatible' in the first instance - i did not allow it but after a while it just was there and every time i want to search the internet now it is there and will not go away. not only have i disabled it, i have now uninstalled all of the avg components i can find on my computer and its still there. How on earth do i get rid of this damnable thing - i cant use tabbed browsing anymore on firefox - i have tried everything i can think of including re-installing firefox - but no joy - am using 7 - please help me get rid of this menace

I would guess that all your slowness problems are from your anti virus, unfortunately if you are not technically skilled enough to click on a menu item to restart Thunderbird in safe mode, I seriously doubt you will be able to start your operating system in safe mode to diagnose the issue.
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu (alt+H), click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • How to positively get rid of AVG Secure search

I have tried many of the method suggested by user but AVG Secure Search is unaffected or goes away but keeps coming back.
I don't understand how it only seems to affect people running Firefox and why Firefox seems to rely completely on forums and suggestions by users as to how to fix it. Why is there not an official Firefox answer to this problem that seems to be a problem for a very large number of Firefox users?

    05/29/2012
I found this somewhere. It worked for me. about:config did not work for me.
Here is the very simple solution to remove AVG secure search from Firefox.
I first uninstalled the avg toolbar using Revo Uninstaller (free program from cnet download)
    1. Go to Firefox "Help".
    2. Click "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
    3. Click "Restart".
    4. The browser will close and a pop-up box will open.
    5. Select "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults".
    All adds on remained enabled.
    6. Click "Make Changes and Restart".

How do i get rid of "Ask Web Search"?

This sometimes sneaks in with a Java update, since it is something you have to opt out of during that process.
This might seem like overkill, but I suggest a brief detour here:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program (or for XP Add/Remove Programs). After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) Open Firefox's '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (3) With the above removed, you can restore your own preferences. As applicable:
    (A) Preferred search engine. Change the icon at the left end of the search bar. See: [[Search bar - add, change and manage search engines on Firefox]].
    (B) Home page. These articles have more details on how:
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
    * [[How to set the home page]]
    (C) New Tab page. There's a hidden setting for this:
    (i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Success?

  • How do I get rid of "Yahoo! Search - Web Search" that comes up every time I click on a new tab?

How do I get rid of "Yahoo! Search - Web Search" that comes up in address bar every time I click on a new tab? I have to delete it in order to go to the site I want. Very annoying. I can not find it in program file.

    Got this fixed.
I deleted Yahoo as a search engine.
To do this: on the right hand side of a toolbar there is a pull down menu which contains "manage search engines". Select this and remove "Yahoo".
BTW: the "Tools" - "Options" - "remove hardware acceleration.. " did not work.

  • Can I just delete all of the AVG items in about:config to get rid of the secure search? I've already deleted AVG Antivirus.

There are 2 users on our computer; I am the administrator. On the 2nd user's page, the AVG Secure Search page comes up despite changing the home page, deleting AVG Anti Virus, and it is not listed where one manages the search engines (we use Ixquick).
About:config shows 10-12 AVG items. Can I just delete them? Thanks!

Try adw cleaner and get rid of the anoying search bar ^^

  • Updated Firefox, now when I open a new tab, there is two seperate google search bars; how do I get rid of the unnecessary search bar?

I updated Firefox, and after I restarted it, when I opened a new tab, I found that I now had two Google search bars: one next to where you type web addresses, and one right above my pinned sites (or my frequently visited sites). I'm just trying to:
    1. Figure out why it is necessary to have two of the pretty much identically useful search bars when I really only need one (or can physically type Google in)
    and
    2. How do I get rid of the unnecessary second Google search bar above my frequently visited and therefore pinned sites.
If you have any ideas of how to remove this annoying addition, I would appreciate it.

I am guessing that you installed an extension, related to "new tab", which added the first search bar. Firefox 31 in includes a search bar for the "new tab" page; so now you have two.
Take a look at that extension (Options or Preferences) to see how to disable ones of those 2 search bars. Or see if an update has been released for that extension, specifically for Firefox 31, with an option to disable the search bar.

  • How do I get rid of Google Custom Search as my default search?

Every time I start FF it has Google Custom Search in the location bar search box. I have delete it multiple times, but the next time I start FF, it is back in the box. I want Bing as my primary search engine. How do I get rid of the Google Custom Search???
Also, how do I get rid of that CouponNetwork Coupon Activator? I have looked for it to delete the file, but can't find it. How do I get rid of it??
    Thanks

That page didn't & has not worked. I have gone through & deleted all the search engines except Bing, probably 15-20 times. When I restart FF Google Custom Search is back in the list & is displayed in the seach box, even though Bing is listed first or the only one in the management section & supposed to be the default.
On the Coupon Activator, that is what I thought also, but it is not listed on the Add/Remove program. I have even done a search on my drive for that filename, but it can't be found.
Any other ideas for both problems???
    Thanks

  • How do i get rid of "my web search" as my default browser?

I downloaded a digital movie and it installed "MyWebSearch" as my default browser. I want Google as my default browser, how do I get rid of MyWebSearch PERMANENTLY?

First step is to disable all nonessential, recent, and unrecognized extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
If in doubt, disable it. Then restart Firefox.
To reset your search providers back to Google, you can use this add-on:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/searchreset/
(If you prefer to do it manually, we can go over the steps.)
That should work for search, but if other settings are affected, such as your home page or new tab page, please post back on those.

  • How do I get rid of the Security Pop-Up?

    Windows 7 - 64bit
IE 8 run in 32 bit
Latest version installed of Flash Player
All of a sudden (I think it started when a web page tried to open adobe reader) I get a continual IE security popup that keeps re-appearing over and over again on the same page as well as on new pages that has a yellow banner saying: A webstie wants to open web coontent using this program on your computer
    Allow or Disallow
Then it says it's from Adobe and the program is Flash Player and under the details it shows
    ...ys\WOW64\Macromed\flash\FlashUtil10e.exe
What do I do to get rid of this?
    Much appreciated!!

I keep uninstalling Adobe to get rid of this problem. Then something comes along that I need Adobe for and install again.
Then this same problem is back.  I won't even consider buying an Adobe product until I know the issue can be resolved.
I'm frustrated in Texas.  I cannot find a way to contact customer service about this, so I guess this has to be the next best thing.
Can anyone help yet?  It's October 2011.

  • How do I get rid of the history search section on the left of my screen?

All of a sudden there is a section on the left side of my Firefox online screen that has:
    Search: [?] [View ]
    + Yesterday
    + Last 7 days
I don't know how it got there, I've tried disabling plug-ins, personalizing tool bar, etc., and can't get rid of it. If I place my cursor on the line that separates this section from the regular Firefox screen, an arrow appears as if I could drag the right part of the screen to the left and "cover up" this search section, but the drag won't work.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sorry for being so dense.

  • How do I get rid of Nation advanced search

I suddenly have this stupid search engine aI don' twant and I can figure out how to get rid of it

Do Not use Linc Davis Suggestion.  That uninstall program asks to reinstall more malware onto your mac.  I would not trust it.  If Nations is underhanded enough to slipde this onto your browsers without telling you, do you honestly think they will not instal more maliscios stuff using their "uninstaller"?  The fact is to remove this requires removing extensions or add ons in each browser you use.  Then making sure you change the default search engine back to google or Bing and also changing your home page back to it's original homepage.
I am running a variety of tests now to determine if there is any other hidden features of this malware.  One thing I did notice is that it caused Google to think I was running constant searches and to ask for a checkl to make sure I was not a bot.  So I am concerned there is other stuff still running even though I removed it.  Another forum suggested removing your scripting additions, I found no files in there that had not been there since way before this malware arrived.  I moved them to a folder on my destop and that process did nothing to get rid of the malware.
I am still trying to determine how it got onto my =computer to begin with since I have little snitch and I see no log of any outgoing traffic to allow this to install.

  • How can I get rid of the "Reset Search" app?

I have a Macbook Pro and I run Mavericks OS X 10.9.5. There's an application in Launchpad called "Reset Search".See picture 1. I know this is part of the "Install Mac" adware, but I still can't find a way to get rid of it. I downloaded Adware Medic to try and remove the adware but it said that it couldn't find anything. I also tried a manual removal following the steps from http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/, where it says to remove the file "/private/etc/launchd.conf" but I can't find that file anywhere. I'm scared to continue because it says, "Failure to properly remove this file, if it is present, will result in your computer freezing and becoming unable to start up!" Also way before I knew this was adware I reset the browser settings a few times using the pop up. See Picture 2.

    Problem description:
Accidentally downloaded the adware “Install Mac” and can’t get rid of it because I can’t find any traces of it, except for the “Reset Search” app on Launchpad.
