How do I get rid of Bing? It is not in my search options window.

I'm using firefox and my homepage is ninemsn.com (by default...(I'd love to block it too). Every time I try to search for something using the search engine in my toolbar my cursor is put into the bing search engine on the nine msn page, so when I press enter I'm taken to a bing search result. Incredibly annoying! How do I block this obnoxious site? Its a complete pain. Bing is not in my search engine list so I can't delete it or manage it.

Hi,
In order to manage your search engines, I would recommend updating Firefox to the newest stable version. Also if you click on the drop down arrow in the search bar of Firefox there is an option to Manage Search Engines..
Please click this and remove or add any desires searches or move up the list the search engine of choice.
It has been a while, so if there are any other questions we are happy to help.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I get rid of Bing search engine. It has taken over.

How do I get rid of Bing? I have Safari 6.0.5 and OS X 10.8.5.
I've cleared history, set Google as my default in preferences in Safari but Bing takes over whenever I enter a search. Where do I go from here?

To remove the "InstallMac" spyware, start by following the instructions on this page. Back up all data before making any changes. The instructions may not remove the spyware completely.
Back up all data, then remove the "Genieo" spyware by following the instructions on this page.
Some versions of the spyware may not be completely removed by those instructions. If you still have problems, do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
Then reboot. Note: Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file doesn't exist.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extension you don't recognize. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How do I get rid of Bing and adware on my macbook? I have changed the preferences on Safari to google, and tried to download an adware remover, but things are now worse!

Hi can anyone help me to get rid of Bing and all sorts of Adware on my macbook which arrive everytime I use Safari? I have changed the Safari preferences but Bing won't go away, and worse, it comes up with adverts. I also seem to be losing things I do want - like VLC player-  its creepy

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.

hello, please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
<br>also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.

Any ideas as to how this might have happened and how I get rid of it (a simple re-boot doesn't do the job).

OK, I followed Syed's instructions. I noticed that under the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ there were two AdaptorGUIDs, but only one of them had any parameters.
I created the IPAutoConfigurationEnabled parameter for both these AdaptorGUIDs with a value of 0 as instructed and re-booted.
Here are the registry entries for the two AdaptorGUIDs:
After re-booting I did another ipconfig /all, and the APIPA address is still there!  Here's the ipconfig output:

  • How do I get rid of xml tags but not when the tag has copyright in it?

I tried this but it does not seem to do anything:
temp_string=temp_string.replaceAll("\\<.*?(!copyright)\\>", "");An example of this is that if I have: <meta name ="copyright" > I do not want to get rid of the tag. In other words, I do not want to get rid of any tags that have the word "copyright" in them, but I want to get rid of all other tags.

    setaret2004 wrote:
Also if I want to include license as well do I just do: str = str.replaceAll("<(?![^<>]*(copyright|license))[^<>]*>", ""); Is that correct?Yes, you can do the same thing with all three regexes. Now, explanations:
"<(?![^<>]*copyright)[^<>]*>" This regex does one lookahead, scanning forward for the word "copyright" before beginning the actual match. It's a negative lookahead, so if the word is seen, the lookahead fails and so does the overall match. If the lookahead succeeds, the match position is returned to where the lookahead started and the real matching begins.
A naïve approach would use ".&#x2A;" or ".&#x2A;?" in the lookahead, but then it would be free to scan past the end of the tag and find the word in the next tag or halfway through the document; lookaheads are slippery that way. But I used "[<>]&#x2A;", so once it reaches the closing ">" it stops scanning.
That means, for every successful match the regex scans the whole tag twice--once for the lookahead and once "for reals". That won't be a problem in most cases, but if you're matching many large chunks of text, performance could suffer. Each of the other regexes only traverses the tag once. "<(?:(?!copyright)[^<>])*>" This one steps through the text one character at a time, at each position doing a negative lookahead before matching the character. That sounds like a lot of work, but in the vast majority of cases the lookahead will only have to look at one character before yielding.
    "<(?:(?!copyright|[<>]).)*>" This is basically the same as the second regex, but it does all the real work in the lookahead. I don't recommend it; it's less readable and probably less efficient than the second regex. But both the second and third regexes can be made more efficient by using [possessive quantifiers|http://www.regular-expressions.info/possessive.html] (that whole site is highly recommended, by the way): "<(?:(?!copyright)[^<>])*+>", "");
"<(?:(?!copyright|[<>]).)*+>" The first regex can use a possessive quantifier, too, but not in the lookahead: "<(?![^<>]*copyright)[^<>]*+>"

  • Bing is loading before my Homepage. How can I get rid of Bing?

Just today Bing began to load when I started FireFox before my homepage. I've looked around for Bing on my computer and can't find it. What did I do today you ask...well I did load two programs...which I have since removed. Still stuck with Bing. I've checked add-ons and extensions, looked for anything new in the programs list on the control panel...
    I'm stuck here folks....Help!....Please.

Does the same unwanted page appear when you open a new window (Ctrl+n) or click the Home icon or press Alt+Home on the keyboard?
    '''If Yes:'''
    * Double-check that your home page setting has changed. These articles describe the steps for that:
** [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
** [[How to set the home page]]
    * If your home page setting is correct, one of your extensions may be overriding your setting. Open the Add-ons page using either:
    ** Ctrl+Shift+a
    ** "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable, or if obvoiusly bad, remove. Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    '''If No:'''
If the problem only occurs when using your Firefox shortcut/icon, it could be hacked. Right-click it > Properties > Shortcut tab. The "Target" for 32-bit Windows 7 should be this (no more, no less):
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
If anything else following that, try removing it.
