How do I get rid of file icons in launchpad? help

hi, just had a link up with a lexmark rep and he has left loads of file icons on my laptop in launchpad. tried the wiggle effect but that doesnt work. how do I delete these please?

hi Matt,
thanx for replying.
the icons were a complete trace of all the actions he needed to do to install an updated driver for my printer. nice to have the log but a pain to keep seeing 3 pages of icons!!!!
I found a wonderful free non apple app which allows me to hide the icons, apparently apple doesnt have anything like this, its called launchpad control and it works a dream, a bit like selecting the playlists you want in itunes.
the "apps" would not delete any way I tried and apple help was no help, just kept coming up no reply
so thanks again for responding, its good to know the occassional knight in shining armour is still riding by

  • Disabled Yahoo icon. How do I get rid of the icon without hiding it?

Okay so on my previous BB I had my work and Yahoo e-mail set up.  Later I disabled the Yahoo e-mail and I remember then it was tough to figure out how to do that and delete the icon.  I figured it out though.
Now I synced to my new 8900 and the Yahoo icon is there again.  It's not receiving or sending e-mail which is fine, but how do I get rid of the icon without having to hide it?  I want it gone forever!
    Thanks!

You must delete that yahoo email account from your carrier's BIS site:

How do I get rid of navigation icon (north, south east west) Comes on automatically since I use the bamboo tablet.
    thank you
    Amelia

Not sure, but that might be the Rotate View Tool. However, that should only show up when the tool is actively being used (not just when it is selected). It could have something to do with multi-touch capabilities that the table may have (two finger rotation should allow the canvas to rotate), but that also shouldn't cause the compass to appear.
A screen shot would help verify what you are seeing.

  • How can I get rid of files that cannot be imported error message

Hello, this is my first post. I am a new mac user. I have imported my jpgs from an external hard drive which was in the most part successful, however, 14 of the files appear to be corrupted and every time I open iphoto9, I get the error message, '14 of your files could not be imported, would you like to import them now?' I have tried choosing both options yes and no and it then writes error message telling me it has created recovered photos folder. When you go to this folder it is empty and every time I restart iphoto, I get the same message. I have tried deleting all the files and re-importing only to find that the number of corrupted files has now doubled. I have also deleted the iphotos library recovered photo folders to no avail. I have tried creating a new library and importing the files to that but the same problem occurred. How can I get rid of this repeated error as I am now up to recovered folder number 47! Help!

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
quit iPhoto and right click (control click) on the iPhoto library (in the pictures folder by default) and select the show package contents command - find the import (or importing) folder and drag it to the desktop and launch iPhoto - you should be fine now - open the import(ing) folder on your desktop and if there are any photos you want import them then trash the folder

  • How Do I Get Rid of Files that Always Lose Permissions?

Seem to be having numerous system problems lately and in working through these, I'm rebuilding permissions frequently
What I see are pretty much the same files over and over whose permissions "differ." Many of these files seem to refer to resources for languages other than the one I typically use (English), such as:
    "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/Dutch.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib".
    "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/Italian.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib".
    "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Support/Remo te Desktop Message.app/Contents/Resources/Spanish.lproj/UIAgent.nib".
    System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/French.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib".
    "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Support/Remo te Desktop Message.app/Contents/Resources/German.lproj/UIAgent.nib".
    "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/Japanese.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib".
These aren't the ONLY files whose permissions need to be fixed but the files mentioned above show up over an over again.
The question is - do I need these files to begin with? If they're optional, how do I get rid of them?
    Thanks for any help offered.

However, if you'd like to elaborate on the problems that you were experiencing, some of us may be able to offer more advice.
It began with having QuarkXpress (ver 8.5.1) freeze EVERY time I Quit the app. Occasionally, Photoshop (CS5) would also unexpected quit. Went 'round and round with that - the crash reports always seemed to mentioned Suitcase (a font management program) so I got rid of that application. Photoshop is more stable but Quark still chokes every time.
Next I noticed a huge system degradation whenever Time Machine was doing a backup. I use it wirelessly due to the location of the Time Capsule relative to my computers. Specifically, applications would slow down so much that they often froze. I opened an Apple discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3624170 on that and received helpful advice. In that process, I reinstalled system software via the Combo Update.
When I was able to diagose the Time Capsule hardware, found there to be a problem which was repair via Disk Utility.
HOWEVER - even after all of these things, I'm still experiencing applications hanging up / freezing entirely ... often, still, while Time Machine is backing up, but not always ... if I must Force Quit applications, it often leads to the Finder getting hung up as well and if I choose "Restart" everyone on my desktop disappears except the wallpaper then the system just sits there.
Can't tell you how often I've had to shut off the CPU using the button on the front. Hate doing that but I don't have much choice at that point.
So there's my sorry tale. If you can make sense out of any of it, I would be eternally grateful.

  • How do I get rid of Norton Icons in my system preferences?

I'm having problems getting rid of Norton on my new MacBook Pro. I foolishly transferred applications from my old G4 with Migration assistant and it transferred my old Norton Internet Security which dates from 2003-2004. I deleted everything I could find, but my computer is still running slow and I get messages when I boot up that the various Norton programs can't open and I should reintall them. The Symantec uninstaller tool can't find any Norton applications on my computer and when I search the hard drive for Norton or Symantec I find nothing. Still, there are two icons on my System Preferences panel, and I'm wondering if I manage to remove these, it will get rid of the last wisps of Norton. Any ideas?

Since it is a new machine, if I were you, I would do a full "Erase and Install" and start over.
BTW, you should really be in a 10.5 or MacBook Pro forum.
    Good Luck.

  • How do I get rid of file folder with question mark at startup?

Following a force quit, at startup I get, first the startup audio followed by a profile of a file folder with a question mark on it.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • How do I get rid of files that only show up on my iPod, but not on my computer when connected? These files appeared after I reconnected my iPod to my computer, and appear to be music files linked to a website.

I purchased an album on itunes and everything was fine. Then when I reconnected my ipod and it did some autosync (which I have it set up to do manual sync) it added every single song a second time, but apparently they are some sort of internet file, that will only play when I have internet connection. These files won't show up through my computer at all and I can't figure out a way to delete them directly from my ipod either. It's incredibly annoying as when I try to listen the album it plays through two songs, then automatically quits playing when it gets to these phantom files...

This is not an itunes question at all.

  • How can I get rid of those icons in safari and have a listing of bookmarks as well as the according web addresses

Hi, I just upgraded to Yosemite and have a huge problem.
There are only icons for the bookmarks, however I need the name and the website address in a list view as I cannot handle over 6,000 bookmarks in an icon window... any suggestions?

    Hi annmeyercom,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I can understand wanting to organize and arrange your Safari bookmarks in a way that is beneficial to you. There may be a couple of different solutions to this. The attached article explains how you can see your bookmarks using the Show or hide the sidebar button as well as enabling the Favorites bar which is similar to previous versions of Safari.

  • How do i get rid of files?

i deleted all my movie files but still have no space what gives?

    Hi Bret
It depends what you did to with these movies. Normally when any files are moved to another drive they are by default only moved and the originals are not deleted.
As you have provided no details as to what you have done let me surmise two possibilities.
    1. manually from Finder
A group of files or a folder of files are dragged from your HD_1 to a new destination on an external HD. They are copied. The originals are still there so again you drag the same highlighted files but this time to the trash and from Finder > Empty Trash.
    2. from within an application like iPhoto or iMovie (not Finder)
A group of files are selected. You chose File > Export. Click around the navigation window to find the destination, in this case the lacie drive. Click Export and they are copied to that new location. The originals are still there and are still highlighted, so continuing you choose File > Move to Trash. Now the tiny trash can icon in the application shows full, (but not the one on the Dock.) To complete things, choose from within the application Empty Trash, and it is emptied.
If either of these scenarios do not apply to your situation, please post back with details of what you did exactly and we will take it from there.
    regards roam

  • How do you get rid of files which you downloaded but they will not show you their location?

I have downloaded a file from the internet and i can find it when i look under "mpg.download" but the finder will not actually show me the location of the file so I can manually remove it. I suspect it is a viral file which will cause some problems. How do you remove these type of files?

    Look in your Downloads folder.
