How do i get rid of google desktop?

My macbook pro has been freezing intermittently since installing 10.6 I've opened the console to see if I could see any problems and I am getting this message, over and over again :
23September2009 23 Sep 2009 22:56:05 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.google.Desktop.Daemon) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
23September2009 23 Sep 2009 22:56:15 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.google.Desktop.Daemon[635]) Bug: launchdcorelogic.c:4158 (23932):2
23September2009 23 Sep 2009 22:56:15 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.google.Desktop.Daemon[635]) posix_spawn("/Library/Google/Google Desktop/GoogleDesktopDaemon.bundle/Contents/MacOS/GoogleDesktopDaemon", ...): No such file or directory
23September2009 23 Sep 2009 22:56:15 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.google.Desktop.Daemon[635]) Exited with exit code: 1
This pops up every few seconds. I don't have google desktop installed, but did long ago.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me.
Many thanks in advance.

this suggests that you did not uninstall google desktop correctly. it comes with an uninstaller and that's what you should have used. I'm guessing you simply trashed the app which is not enough if an application was installed using an installer. since google desktop is not snow leopard compatible you can not use the uninstaller now.
do a finder search for com.google.desktop and delete everything you find. then restart the computer. make sure you include system files in the search. they are excluded by default. to include them enter command+f in finder to start a search. then click on "kind", hold the mouse button, scroll and click on "other". in the resulting popup select "system files" and include them in the search.

  • How do I get rid of Google Custom Search as my default search?

    Every time I start FF it has Google Custom Search in the location bar search box. I have delete it multiple times, but the next time I start FF, it is back in the box. I want Bing as my primary search engine. How do I get rid of the Google Custom Search???
    Also, how do I get rid of that CouponNetwork Coupon Activator? I have looked for it to delete the file, but can't find it. How do I get rid of it??
    Thanks

    That page didn't & has not worked. I have gone through & deleted all the search engines except Bing, probably 15-20 times. When I restart FF Google Custom Search is back in the list & is displayed in the seach box, even though Bing is listed first or the only one in the management section & supposed to be the default.
    On the Coupon Activator, that is what I thought also, but it is not listed on the Add/Remove program. I have even done a search on my drive for that filename, but it can't be found.
    Any other ideas for both problems???
    Thanks

  • How do I get rid of Google each time I open firefox?

    How do I get rid of the Google that sits on the page. I think I have the right to deside when I wish to use google - no body else.

    Thanks for the thought - but I probably do not understand. I expect to see "About:blank". If I set that up I get instead "About:home" and even then it seems google is still in the center of the page - and there is even a list of "abouts" to consider.
    I must have a search engine of some sort - I would prefer one that is not doubling up as a statistics collector. I want to be able to get an empty page with the option to put in my search (or address) at the head and not see anything else. Every time I experiment with that need, eventually Google comes back. It used to be like that in the old days....

  • How do I get rid of my desktop and have fios wirelessly with a new laptop?

    My desktop is useless to me and is taking up way too much space.  What are the steps I need to take to ditch the desktop and have everything wireless (2 laptops)?

    The steps? It's really just a matter of buying the laptops and then connecting them wirelessly to the router using the provided key and SSID which is on a sticker somewhere on the router (while setting up the PC, Windows PCs will ask you for this info as one of the optional steps), and then transferring any data over to the laptops if you're getting rid of the desktop. No need to install any special software to get it working other than the usual assortment of Windows Updates. What I would do however, is change the default wireless security of WEP to WPA2-PSK AES on the router via the desktop, which not only is far more secure but is in fact a little faster due to the way it works. For Wireless N should you so happen to get one of the very new routers Verizon has, WPA2-PSK AES is a requirement.
    Anyhow, just remember that for FiOS, I wouldn't suggest running anything bandwidth heavy over the wireless. G won't be able to handle anything higher than 24Mbps on average if you're lucky, and also keep in mind the radio works on a shared bandwidth system (meaning 54Mbps theoretical shared amongst everything on it, less if there's lower speed links) on a half-duplex connection. If one device is eating the bandwidth up or has a slower link, everything slows down.

  • How do I GET RID OF GOOGLE in the search in the middle of my screen?

    I am not talking about Google on the top right corner of my screen, I am talking about the middle of the monitor where it has Google tied in with Firefox?
    I got rid of Google altogether because of the drop down box when searching, everything I tried didn't get rid of it so I come to the conclusion that Google is GARBAGE~!~! And INTRUSIVE GARBAGE AT THAT.~!~

  • How do I get rid of Google Adsense on my web site?

    I did not ask for the Google ads that appear at the bottom of my web site and they appear there without my choice: www.mvhsclassof1959.com
    How do I get out of this? Nowhere on the Google Adsense help pages does it tell you how to get out of this. I don't even have an account name and I never requested Google ads, and therefore cannot access any type of help. Again I never did request Google Adsense when using iWeb to build my site. Help! Where do I go to get out of this?

    That is a Google search entity that's at the bottom. Did you somehow put a search function in the site. They just don't show up unless there's been some type of interaction with Google.
    Viewing the source the pages are in a frame page with your site's page in the top frame and the Google search pnp in the bottom frame. The code is:
    <frameset frameborder="0" framespacing="0" border="0" rows="*,60">
    <frame name="TOPFRAME" src="http://web.mac.com/ljkloncz1/MVClass_of1959/Welcome.html"
    noresize>
    <frame name="TOPFRAME" src="ufad.php" scrolling=no noresize>
    <noframes>
    So somehow the php search function got added to your site. Where did you buy your domain name? Google? If so then it might be that the search function was added when you setup the domain name and forwarding. Check your account there and see if there's a checkbox for a search function somewhere that's been selected. They are sneaky that way.

  • How can I get rid of the ~/Desktop/ directory?

    I would like to delete that infernal Desktop/ directory because I don't use it for anything. Everytime I delete it, it gets remade on reboot. I've tried running pacman -Qo on the Desktop/ directory, but pacman only seems to be able to find non-directory files.
    I figure this has to be a common question, but my forum searching skills appear to be lacking because I haven't found anyone who has asked it. All I managed to find was one thread on linuxquestions that was not helpful. Thanks.

    After a bit of googling, I found out that people do have problems with the Desktop folder reapperaing in Gnome (where Nautilus seems to be recreating it...). This link http://pythonide.blogspot.com/2007/11/h … sktop.html could be useful for Gnome ppl.
    As far as KDE4.1 is concerned, it doesn't have any such problem i.e. Desktop folder doesn't reappear after deletion. Additionaly, one can change one's default "Desktop folder" using start-menu > System settings > About me > Paths > Desktop path.
    UPDATE: If your "default download dir" is Desktop, firefox would graciously create one for you if it doesn't exist, as ozar rightly said. This applies to KDE-4.1.

  • How Do I Get Rid of "Google Play" Message?

    I can't download updates or use the Marketplace.
    Every time I try I get a message that begins: "By using Google Play you agree ..."
    There is an Accept button and a Decline button.
    Every time I hit Decline button it just jumps back to the main phone screen.
    This is very frustrating.
    I don't know what "Google Play" is and I don't want it.
    How do I stop that message from popping up?
    Thanks.

    Ah, I looked it up.
    It's the replacement for the Marketplace.

  • How do I get rid of Google as my face page for Mozilla? All attempts to date have been unsuccessful. Please help.

    I recently updated Mozilla. SInce then the GOOGLE search page is the new face page when I enter Mozilla. I would prefer use MY YAHOO page, but everytime I change the setting to what I want the GOOGLE search page then returns when return to Mozilla. What Can I do?

    You probably are familiar with how to change your "home" page by now, but just in case:
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
    * [[How to set the home page]]
    After you change the setting, if you open a new window using Ctrl+n, does it show your Yahoo page as desired?
    ''If yes'' then I suspect some software is overriding your preference at startup, or changing it behind Firefox's back. This article describes some ways this can happen: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]. Another common culprit is the "Surfing Protection" feature of the Advanced SystemCare software, and similar home page or browser protection features of other utility/security software.
    ''If no'' then one of your extensions may be overriding your preference. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
    Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that help?

  • How do I get rid of Google as a search engine, new computer. windows 7. shows yahoo as unavailable?

    I tried changing the search engine to yahoo in about:config. but google keeps coming up. In manage search engines None were available and google wasn't listed. I'm not sure how to proceed.

    If you are referring to the Search on the Default Firefox Homepage (about:home), then that can not be changed, not easily atleast. The default homepage is hardcoded to use Google as its search provider.
    To change the Firefox Default Homepage search provider you need to edit aboutHome.xhtml and aboutHome.dtd; Which will take Web Development Coding skillz.
    If you are having trouble with the homepage Preference not saving after following the steps Here: [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page How to set Homepage.]
    Then you may need to refer to these two articles:

    *[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved KB: Preference not Saved]

    Drag it to the trash icon in your dock.  This is a disk image, and you need to "eject" it, to get rid of it.
