How do i get rid of "other" space on my ipad?

hi there...just wondering how I get rid of the "other" space on my ipad....when in itunes to sync.....says there is 6.7GB of "other"....

Just remember that you cannot totally get rid of "other" nor do you want to do so because it contains notes, Safari history and bookmarks, contacts, email messages, text messages, and that type of data. As sberman states, it should be nowhere near that large, but you can't and don't want to get rid of all of it.
There are a bunch of other things that you can try before doing a full restore, but again, as stated above, sometimes the only thing that will work is to restore as new.
Take a look at some of these suggestions here.

I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) with iTunes but the messages are still there. How can I get rid of these texts for good and have more space on my phone? 6.33 gb of other space is way too much, thats almost half of my overall available space (13.5 gb.) I don't want to reset my phone and lose all my other texts/ app progress/ photos. I do have backups, but when I restore from the backup the other space comes back along with everything else. What can I do to get rid of this other space and the 'deleted' text messages? (I'm running iOS 6.1.3 if that helps)

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

If it's cache and temporary space for applications, sorting, and other things - how the system adjusts its?
Under what conditions is it decreasing?
For example, if the "other" has grown to 10 Gb or even more, and I was left with only 7 Gb free capacity, the only way to regain the 10 GB - this is reset and recovery? It's not a very convenient way...

  • How do I get rid of extra space in the toolbar section?

There is a blank space between the Navigation Toolbar and the Tabs. It is the same height as the other Toolbars, and is very annoying. How do I get rid of this space?
I tried pasting in a screenshot to show what I mean, but this form won't accept it.

Sorry thought you had placed them both on the same toolbar.
What you appear to have a a bookmarks toolbar without any bookmarks.
Make sure that you have the check mark present for the bookmarks toolbar
    View > Toolbars
Use "Ctrl+B" to bring up the bookmarks in the sidebar.
You should have three major folders "Bookmarks Toolbar", "Bookmarks Menu" and "Unsorted Bookmarks".
If you have no bookmarks or folders in the "Bookmarks Toolbar" that would be one reason for it to be blank, another and the only other one I think is currently possible through Firefox itself is that you don't have the wording "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" in the row when in customize, look for an item marked "Bookmarks" -- there are two such items you don't want the white star on a black background and drop-down, you want the the one with blue symbol on the right hand side -- drag it to the bookmarks toolbar, be careful in dragging you might drop it in the wrong toolbar.
If that doesn't work use the "Restore Default Set" and then you have to re-customize your toolbars (but you placed a picture here that you could work toward).
    See picture at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Toolbar_customization_-_Firefox

  • How can i get rid of other folder on ipad

how can i get rid of other folder on ipad

You can't remove the "other" section on your iPad, iTunes and the iOS need this folder to store data during syncing for example, damaged data and for all things, that you can't access on your device.
You can reduce the size by restoring, if the folder grows to more than 1GB due to problems when you sync or download apps or photos.

  • How do i get rid of "other" taking up storage space?

"Other takes up almost half of my iphone storage/usage. What is it and how can i get rid of it?

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
Probably a few I've missed. There was a problem in an earlier version where deleted MMS messages left behind their attachments, but that has been fixed as of 6.1. However, old images were not deleted from Other; its just that new images were being correctly removed when you delete an MMS message.
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. Normal "Other" is 1-2 GB. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Tried doing restore to get rid of "Other" Space, Error 3194, No Joy

I've read for a few days now and tried almost everything, to try to get rid of the dreaded "Other" Space.
See attached photo, 7.6 gigs on my 14 gig iphone 4s.
I downloaded my IOS version, and tried to restore as new as well , I believe, to the same IOS as I have now 7.0.4 but I get the error 3194. I do the hosts files thing to add and remove the gs.apple.com or whatever ip and domain name it is.
I've also tried just doing a restore. several times. I've gotten iFunbox and navigated and looked for stuff. I got PhoneClean and cleaned out the phone, it helps SOME but it still have 7.6 gigs of "Other" I don't want to update to 8, I hear it's not meant for the 4s.
any help to get me to be able to restore the IOS to the same version and clean the other space, would be much appreciated.

There have been conflicting reports on how iOS 8 works on the 4S. You can try getting rid of other by removing all content from your phone and by removing your music, etc. through a sync. Then sync that content back. A lot of other comes from problems with music syncing, issues with a lot of mail in an account, and data that does not fit in regular categories. However, the best method to clean the device the best you can is to restore.
The way to get rid of "other" is not to update, it is to restore. However, if you restore and are not using the latest iOS for your device, then you will be updating, yes.
