How do I get rid of password at login?

At some point requiring a password upon login/waking up from sleep mode was necessary. I no longer want my MacBook password protected, but can't seem to find the setting anywhere. I tried doing some research here in the community, but didn't get very far finding an answer that works. When I enter System Settings/Users & Groups/Login Options, I am unable to change to Automatic Login (with the gold lock unlocked). Is that even the way to go to change from a password protected login? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes this is the way.
Are you saying it reads automatic login> OFF and you can not change it to your name (admin)??

You didn't mention which version of OS X your running but there are password reset utilities provided OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (Snow Leopard and earlier) - Apple Support or OS X: Changing or resetting an account password - Apple Support
Alternately you can use an external keyboard to log in and change the password. Make a backup if you don't have one, it's likely that your problems aren't over. If that water continues to migrate downward and fries the logic board your macbook will be toast.

How do I get rid of "Other" on login screen?

About a year ago I sent my MacBook in for an AppleCare repair and when it came back it had a new user login named "Other…"

I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of it, but nothing has worked. It is not listed under Users or anywhere else that I can find. System Preferences does not have any mention of it.

In one of the help pages for managing your Apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40), it shows two separate sections, one for Apple ID and one for Primary Email address. When I go to manage my Apple ID, I see only a single section for both. Can the two be 'separated', especially when you face the situation of having to discontinue your email address for some reason?
I also noticed that when navigating to Apple ID Support Communities, it shows my nickname 'dishdy'. How and when did I insert this? In the current sequence for creating an Apple ID I don't see this. In my current profile I don't see this.
In any case, I have freed myself from my previous Apple ID (@artemis.it) on my iPhone.

The password will not be sent to you, because Apple does not know it. They will send a link where you can reset the password. Yes that makes sense, however have you updated it at My Apple ID before trying to change it in your system preferences > iCloud settings, you must do that first.

From what you're describing appears to be Activation Lock, a security measure provided by Apple that makes it harder for people to use a lost or stolen device. You will need to enter the password for the Apple ID the device is prompting you for.
