How do I get rid of plugin check?

How can I prevent the Plugin Check tab from loading every time I start Fire Fox?

This problem is a real headache; I've tried all the solutions posted on [[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/833109]] to no avail. Altering the '''about:config''' settings such as the ones mentioned in the posts don't work, e.g. setting the '''plugins.update.url''' blank only causes the plugin-search website to be substituted with a blank page. I completely removed Firefox and found that after a fresh install the issue would reemerge, not initially, but after opening it after a few times. Also, disabling all plug-ins and add-ons won't help either.
I used to really love Firefox, but don't understand why this problem is yet to be solved properly, as it's been around for some time and has caused many to switch browsers. My faith in the Mozilla team would be restored if this bug were fixed.
P.S. I will never go Chrome (no matter how shiny that poisonous apple is), but there are many other browsers out there...

iPhoto 9.6 cannot open iPhoto Libraries on CD/DVD. The iPhoto Library needs to be on a writable storage. Copy the iPhoto library from the disk to a folder in your Pictures folder. And then run the iPhoto Library Upgrader on that copy, see this link: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader

How to get rid of plugin in use lego icon?

How do i get rid of this annoying lego like icon next to the back button whenever i go on facebook, youtube or any site that uses a plugin? When I click the icon it opens a dialog that has 2 buttons, block or continue allowing on the use of the plugin on the site.. Anybody here know of an addon or about:config thing i can set to false to hide the lego icon?

Actually, I just saw this "lego" piece for a page using Silverlight, and I do not use click-to-play.
It would not be difficult to suppress the little icon using a style rule (userChrome.css or Stylish extension) but this would leave a slim notification area (second frame of attached screen shot). This could be suppressed entirely, but I can't think of a way to suppress it conditionally for some notifications but not for others -- and there are many (third frame of attached screen shot). Perhaps someone else has an idea about that.

When I search for solutions, I find several references to the backup feature of Norton 360. There also were references to MozyHome and McAfee.

Updatetask.exe is repeatedly blocked by my virus checker. Forums say it can be malicious. How do I know, and how do I get rid of it?

I use Firefox on Windows 7. Several times an hour and sometimes when I click a link or do something else when browsing I get a dialog box that says updatetask.exe has been blocked. Forums say this can be a Firefox automatic update executable, but that it can carry malicious baggage.
This file or name does not appear in the Control Panel add/remove programs list, so I can't uninstall it. I don't know if it's safe to just search for and delete the file. So, how do I know if it's authenticaly yours or safe, and how do I get rid of it? The virus checker is F-Secure.

AFAIK. updatetask.exe is a malicious file and it is associated with the Ask.com toolbar. But I'm unsure as it is very tricky, because UpdateTask.exe has 29 different versions, varying from illegal to malignant.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

I'll assume your laptop was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1
1. Start by copying all your personal folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Favourites, local databases,
hosts files, etc) into an external disk, DVD, tape, whatever.
2. If I were you, I wouldn't use Windows 8.1 backup tool, I'm not sure Windows 7 Restore applet will be able
to read a Windows 8.1 backup.
3. Check that you have all the necessary licenses, CDs and executables to reinstall your former Windows 7
applications, components, browsers, plugins, Java, .NET Frameworks, etc. Be aware that some applications require
to keep same hostname and/or same IP and/or or same local username (or all of them) as they were on the original
Windows 7 machine.
4. Check that you have your Windows 7 CD and license handy.
5. Do you have a Windows 7 image backup of your laptop (prior to the Windows 8 upgrade)?
5.a Yes? Then restore that image and restore your personal folders on top. You might need to
install or reinstall some of the applications I mentioned on #3
5.b No? You'll have to format your laptop, install Windows 7 from scratch, create your local
user with administrative rights, install SP1, install necessary updates, reinstall all your
applications and finally restore your personal folders.

I have a big problem: how do I get rid of a persistent keylogger?

I did a reinstall of OS Snow Leopard and that totally solved my keylogger problem:
1. My computer was no longer slow, it didn't keep making constant noises as if there was a process in the background when I wasn't using my computer
2. All websites loaded super quickly and there wasn't this horrible 5 second lag when I typed something or a skip in videos when I watched something...
but then,,,,,2 days later....
as I was in gmail, MY SCREEN WENT TOTALLY WHITE
and I had to restart my computer...and now THIS ANNOYING KEYLOGGER problem has returned.
How do I get rid of the a*hole who is targeting my computer? I don't have time to reinstall Snow Leopard again and again. How can I get rid of this annoying keylogger that is making my computer SUPER SLOW?

I have to note here that when I launch Activity Monitor- for some reason this computer has loads of inactive processes running ALL THE TIME, when my other computers do not have this problem.
