How do I get rid of "Selected Item" window?

Just updated iTunes to version 7.5 and I notice a window below the listings of my playlists (left side of screen), thus reducing the number of playlists that I can see. I would rather that the "now playing/selected item" window not be there so I can see more of my playlists and reduce scrolling. Is it possible? Thanks.

If your CDs are marked as Compilations then you can see them by switching on the compilations feature in the browser. Go to Edit>Preferences>General and check the box "Group Compilations when browsing". When you switch the browser on Compilations will be the first item in the Artist pane, click on it and your compilations will then be listed in the Album pane. If you made these CDs yourself you'll need to mark all the tracks as part of a compilation and give them an album name (you can use the name of your playlist for example). To change the info on multiple items such as all the songs in a playlist, click on the first track you want to add information then while holding down the shift key click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. Type in the album name and choose Yes from the drop down menu below "Compilation" which is on the bottom row of the info window then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical.

  • How do I get rid of the adjust window in iphoto.  It is stuck there and it won't go away.

How do I get rid of the 'adjust' window on my photo.  I click on the x and it does nothing.  Is it hung?  I thought apple didn't hang.

Close iPhoto and do the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • How can I get rid of "locked items" in Trash?

I am deleting old Time Machine files from my external drive, using my MacBook Pro (2007) to do it.  I've been doing this for several weeks, but now when I'm in Trash and click "Empty Securely" I get this message:  "There are some locked items in Trash.  Do you want to remove all the items, including the locked ones, or just the unlocked items?"  Regardless of whether I click on "Remove unlocked items" or "Remove all items", the process stops almost immediately and the Trash remains full.  What might be the "locked items" and how can I get rid of them?

You might try restarting and then try to empty the Trash.

  • How do I get rid of blank pdf windows that appear in mission control? My adobe acrobat program isn't even open.

Everytime I go into mission control I see blank pdf windows. I can't get rid of them except when I restart my computer. Otherwise I have to put them all into 1 desktop in mission control so they don't clutter my other desktops. The windows only appear in mission control and not in the actual active desktop. I've tried closing any open application that uses pdfs but that doesn't help. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

    Hi Bill,
I came to the problem this morning with a fresh perspective and have solved the problem: I realized the text was in Cambria, so I changed it to the dependable Times New Roman. I created the PDF and NO pound signs appeared scattered around in the PDF.
    Ay, fonts!

  • How do I get rid of unwanted items listed on my Finder's places list? my finder

On the left side of my Finder window I have a blue background column with a list of items under "DEVICES", "PLACES" AND "SEARCH FOR".  Somehow I got two items stuck in my list under "PLACES".  One is a scan.jpeg.  The other is an iTunes file.  I have no idea how I did this.  It doesn't seem to affect anything but it is annoying to me to have it there.  Is there any way to delete them from this list?  I have tried to do this every way I can think of and nothing works.  As I wrote this, I thought I would try one last time.  Finally was able to get a right click drop down for the iTunes file which gave me the option of removing it from the list.  The other is still there.  It will not highlight.  I can drag it away from the list, but it won't land anywhere except a different place in the "PLACES" list.  Any ideas?

Hey, just saw the trick about holding the Command key down while dragging the file out.  Wonderful to see that "poof" and no more file.  Would still like to know how I could have gotten these [as someone said "empty shells"] there, so I don't do it again.

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware or malware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Please help me, how do I get rid of pop up windows

Hi, I've had my Mac for around 3 years without any problems. I think my daughter has downloaded something that has opened up a virus ? Example: I click on an icon whilst doing my online shopping and this opens up a separate webpage and also a box at the bottom of the screen with a long pop up box, which moves along the screen. Example, I wanted to search 'nuts' (as in almonds) in the shopping page, and a box showing mechanical nuts and bolts filled the page. If I click on the x it opens up a separate web page, I close the page, go back to my shopping and it does it all over again. i'm worried to use my Mac for any sort of banking until this is fixed.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?  I do have Mac Apple cover, but they are shut today!
    thanks in advance.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How do I get rid of the Photoshop window my files are docked into?

all files opened in Photoshop CC are 'docked' or nested in window called' Photoshop Window"? How do I break the relationship, so my files are independent from that window?
Mind you, 'Float in Window' option is NOT gonna cut it because while seemingly independent, when the 'Photoshop Window' is closed - ALL my documents close as well. Can you help?

In CS6 is at the bottom so most people miss cause they think alphabetically like me. Though at all possible CC did something with this.

  • How do I get rid of ALOT and Windows Scanner? Help me Please or tell me what to do:)

''Every time I turn on my laptop the Windows Scanner kicks in and says My computer is at risk and Drive C is in danger and a box comes up saying Windows Disc This started on January Friday January 21st when AOLT was accidentally installed as my toolbar. The Windows Scanner thing sounds like Malware on your PC that is indicating a fake scan is being performed, and then offers to sell you something to fix it, when all it will do is install more Malware, that is even harder to remove.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. <br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)''''' <br /> They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''
