How do i get "save as" on my drop down menu

I just got a mac. I am extremely new to this and realized there isn't a save as feature under the file menu. I learned that you must press option and it will appear. Is there anyway I can keep the "save as" permanently on the drop down?? Thanks!!

Pages 09 (4.3) has no Duplicate command on its menu. with or without the option key depressed.
Pages 5.2 also has no Duplicate command in its menu, with or without the option key depressed.
I believe that yours has so, are you using a different version, or not using Mavericks (as I am)
Why the differences?

  • The bookmarks themselves exist. How can I put them back in the drop-down menu I have from Vista-Aero theme ?

    This happens when I start Firefox (v. 3.6.28) from desktop. I ussually start it from quick launch. I have a star shaped button, top left, that works like a drop-down menu for my bookmarks. But now there's only a small window there, and the bookmarks do not appear anymore. They are stored in the Bookmarks>>Unsorted bookmarks tab. But how the hell do I get them to the drop menu ?
    Did I mention that Restore doesn't ....... do anything ?
    Also I haven't changed any settings in the last 2 weeks.

    Staying with Firefox 3.6 is both EXTREMELY Insecure (you are vulnerable to almost every hole on [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html] since Firefox 12), and you are using a version that is significantly slower, doesn't support modern web technology, and has known bugs (crashes, freezes, etc.). If it's just the UI you don't like, you can quickly and easily change the UI to look exactly like 3.6.
    So, until you update you are knowingly using an old version of software with dozens of known bugs.

  • Getting fonts to display in drop down menu

    Is there any way to set it up so my fonts will be displayed graphically in the font drop down menus of different appllications? I know I can see what the fonts look like in Font Book, but I want to see them in the drop down menu from within whatever application I am using.
    I would have thought that would be a preference that could be set within individual applications, although I have yet to find that as something to be able to set up. I'm still looking, though.

    It's the wysiwyg in Office that made me want to see if I can get the same with everything. I actually use AppleWorks more than Word, and it's a pain to have to try to remember what a font looks like.
    I think Font Book might be the ticket, but I'm leery of installing it because of something called "Application Enhancer" that gets installed with it. It installs executable code, which is probably ok, but ...
    Anyway, thanks for the input, guys!

  • AppleScript how to use "get" for field information and drop-down boxes?

    Hi all,
    First post.
    Looking to use the "get" function or similar for getting information in a list or from a drop-down box or a field.
    Example, you open keychain, open the info. for a cert and want to read the currently selected trust setting for "When using this certificate" drop-down.
    Or, you want to check the Common Name field under details.
    How would I return these specific values?
    Thank you,
    -b

    The exact question being asked here: http://forum.soft32.com/mac/select-table-row-ftopict101735.html
    But, that doesn't work with the latest AppleScript.

    There is a new hype going on called AJAX. It is either that, or dumping a lot of information in javascript arrays and reading the information from there when you make selections. I would choose AJAX.

  • How can I place email aliases in my drop-down menu?

    I have 5 aliases attached to my me.com/icloud.com account, but only two of them appear in the "From" drop-down box in Mail since I moved to OS Mavericks.
    How can I add the others to the options available there?

    Oddly, you do this at icloud.com. Copied from iCloud help:
    Select addresses you can send from
    In iCloud Mail, choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar.
    Click Composing.
    Choose the address you usually use from the “Set a default address” pop-up menu.
    In the list of addresses, select the ones you want to be able to send from while using iCloud Mail.The selected addresses appear in the From pop-up menu when you create a new email message.
    This also affects the desktop Mail app.

  • Save As missing from drop down menu.

    I don't have the Save As option in my file dropdown menu. I would like to save pages documents as word, I am unable to check that box its grayed out. if anyone can let me know how to resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. It only has a Save option and that does not allow me to save as word.

    Before "saving" as Word I advise you to save the document in its native format, .pages. The conversion the Word isn't perfect. Then to get a Word document you have to Export to Word, either from the File menu or from the Share menu in Pages.

  • Get / Put commands in site drop down menu greyed out and not working

    Re: Dreamweaver CS4
    About a year ago my get and put commands greyed out and stopped working.  I called my webhost and they were no help, they did say that they moved my site to a new (linux) server about the same time.  I have applied all the correct settings on my configure server window and when I hit test it connects successfully.
    I have been posting over the last year using Firefox FTP but am making quite a few changes and it's making me crazy going back and forth.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Closing this question out, the MacBook reverted to normal behavior sometime since I posted the problem and this post. No clue why.

  • How Can I Put Multiple Columns in a Drop-Down Menu?

    We are trying to put multiple columns in a drop-down menu, similar to what is on these web sites...
    http://www.cabelas.com/
    http://www.target.com/  (This site has the multiple columns on the Women, Home, Kitching & Dining, Toys, Electronics, and See More categories).
    If anyone has any suggestions for coding, please reply.
    Thank you.
    Wil Radcliffe

    As an <li> tag is not a block level element like a <p> or <div> tag you can store a <div> container within the <li> tag and create an element in that menu item and us the following tutorial to create multiple columns depending on the ordering:
    http://www.alistapart.com/articles/multicolumnlists
    Depending on your target browser you could also use the CSS3 column-count to define the amount of columns.  But with just a quick glance at this I would say it only works in the the later versions of Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE9+.

  • How do you disable the notifications drop down menu???

    I'm hoping this can be done! I have been working in a painting app and everytime I try to use a stylist near the canvas edges I get the ipad's notifications drop down menu... I tried turning everything off under notifications in the general settings but I'm still getting a drop down menu now telling me that I have no new notifications...arrgggg!

    I don't think you can.  Others using that type of app have also complained.  Send feedback to Apple and the developer.

  • How to hide top hits, bookmarks & history drop down menu when typing in safari search bar?

    how do I hide top hits, bookmarks & history drop down menu when typing in safari search bar?

    Not completely.
    In Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Check both Do not preload top hits in the background & Prevent earch engine from providing suggestions.
    This will eliminate top hits and search engine suggestions.
    I am not sure about the rest.
    As far as History, I guess you could clear it and use Private Browsing.
    Bookmarks, I don't think there is anything you can do about that besides removing them.

  • Since installing 4.0.1 I can't right click on the Icon in my task bar and have Firefox give me the option of "close and save" the tabs. Only let's me know I'm about to close multiple tabs. How do I get "save and close" back?

    Before installing 4.0.1 I could right click on the Firefox icon on my computer's taskbar and hit close window. It would then give me the option to "save tabs and quit" or "close all tabs."
    Now it just alerts me that I'll be closing multiple tabs.
    It was convenient to be able to close Firefox and open it with all of the tabs in place. There is nothing more irritating than having multiple tabs lost because your computer did an update overnight and restarted. Also it was helpful when you wanted to run a tun-up or cleaner that asked you close out of your browser for optimum result's.
    How do I get "save and quit" back?
    Thanks

    Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
    If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
    If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • How do I add "Save As" to the Pages drop down menu?

    How do I add "Save As" to the Pages drop down menu?

    It took me awhile but I found what I was looking for. This is posted at http://www.tuaw.com/2012/07/29/get-save-as-back-on-mountain-lions-file-menu-easi ly-and-without/
    Option 1. Terminal.app If you are comfortable using Terminal.app, you can add a different keyboard shortcut this with one simple line. First, quit all your apps except Finder and Terminal. Then paste this command (as one line) into Terminal.app (and press Return):
    1
    defaults write -globalDomain NSUserKeyEquivalents -dict-add 'Save As...' '@$S'
    view rawdwrite-global-saveas.sh hosted with ❤ by GitHub
    That's it!
    Launch TextEdit and open the 'File' menu and you should see "Save As..." back in its rightful spot with its original Command + Shift + S shortcut, as shown in the image above.
    Aside: After you enter the 'defaults write' command, you will not see any confirmation that it was entered correctly. Terminal.app is a little terse sometimes. If you want to verify it from the command-line, enter this:
    defaults read -globalDomain NSUserKeyEquivalents
    and look for "Save As..." = "@$s"; in the output.
    Option 2. System Preferences.app If you would rather not use Terminal, it's still very easy to add the keyboard shortcut.
    Launch the System Preferences.app, then open the "Keyboard" preference pane.
    At the top you will see "Keyboard" and "Keyboard Shortcuts" – click "Keyboard Shortcuts" (labeled '1' below). Then in the list on the left side, click "Application Shortcuts" (labeled '2' below). Then click the "+" button (labeled '3' below):
    Once you press that "+" button, a small window will appear asking you to enter the title of the menu item and the keyboard shortcut that you want to use.
    Enter "Save As..." in the "Menu Title:" field, and then press the keyboard shortcut that you want to use. In the example below I pressed Command + Shift + S:
    Note: It used to be true that you had to enter an actual ellipsis (which you can get by pressing Option+ ; on a US-English keyboard). However, when I tested this in Mac OS X 10.8.2, it worked with three consecutive periods.
    Bonus Tip: Hide the "Duplicate" menu item.
    In my original article I suggested that you also enter a keyboard shortcut for "Duplicate" and while youcan do that if you wish, you do not need to do that.
    However, if you would like to hide the Duplicate menu item, you can do that. There are two steps: first, remap "Save As..." to Command + Shift + S (as shown above). Then the 'trick' is to remap "Duplicate" to Command + Shift + Option + S.
    What you will have done is swap the keyboard shortcuts for "Duplicate" and "Save As..." which means that OS X will make "Duplicate" the optional command. If you open the "File" menu and hold down "Option" the "Save As..." command will change to "Duplicate"
    (Thanks to TUAW reader 'rbascuas' for pointing this out in response to the original article!)
    Important Addendum: "Keep changes in original document"
    As we reported in August 2012, the "Save As..." command in early versions of 10.8 had an unexpected and likely unwanted side effect in Mountain Lion: it would save the changes in the new document (created by "Save As...") but would also save the changes to the original document.
    However, Apple realized that users might not want that behavior, so in Mac OS X 10.8.2 they added an option "Keep changes in original document" which you can see here:
    Option A: If you want to save the changes you've made in the document and then save the document with a different name, then make sure that the box is checked.
    Option B: If you want your original document to stay as it was when you last saved it and create a new document based on the modified content of that document, then make sure that box is not checked.
    If you do not see the 'Keep changes in original document' box, then the application is probablygoing to give you the "Option B" behavior, but if you are not sure, I would suggest choosing Cancel in the "Save" dialog, then copy and paste the contents of the document into a new file, and save the new file. I know that's several extra-and-less-convenient steps, but if you are worried about preserving the original document, better safe than sorry.
    You could also save the file, duplicate it in Finder, and rename the new instance. Open old file and revert to previous save using 'Versions'.
    Frankly,I wish that Apple had just left the "Save As..." command alone, but for some reason they didn't ask my opinion. That said, I'm glad that they brought it back in Mountain Lion. I would have paid $20 for that feature alone.
    Note: This article was re-written and republished on 2013–02–21. The original process still works, but I wanted to update it to reflect some additional information.

  • Made a drop down menu. How can I get the drop down to fade in and out? !

    Hi guys!
    I've created a drop down menu (with the help of you legends on here! )...Now I just need it to animate so when the user hovers over the main menu item, the drop down fades in.
    Here's the HTML I have...
        <ul id="nav">
            <li><a href="#">Nav 1</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Nav 2</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Nav 3</a>
                <ul>
                    <li><a href="#">&raquo; Sub Menu 1</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">&raquo; Sub Menu 2</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">&raquo; Sub Menu 3</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">&raquo; Sub Menu 4</a></li>
                </ul>
            </li>
            <li><a href="#">Nav 5</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Nav 6</a></li>
        </ul>
    ...and here's my CSS...
    ul#nav {width:920px; height:35px; list-style:none; padding:0; margin:0; background:url(navBg.jpg) repeat-x; z-index:999;}
    ul#nav li a:hover, #nav li a:active {background:url(navOn.jpg) repeat-x; text-decoration:none;}
    ul#nav li a {color:#E0E2E7; display:inline-block; float:left; margin:0; padding:10px 19px; width:auto; text-decoration:none;}
    * html #nav li {display:inline; float:left; }  /* for IE 6 */
    * + html #nav li {display:inline; float:left; }  /* for IE 7 */
    #nav ul {width:208px; left:-9999em; list-style:none; margin:35px 0; padding:0; position:absolute; z-index:999;}
    #nav li:hover ul {left:auto;}
    #nav li {float:left;}
    #nav li li a {width:190px; background-color:#efefef; color:#2e2e2e; padding:8px; margin:0; }
    #nav li li a:hover {background-color:#000; background-image:none; color:#FFF;}
    #nav li:hover {background:url(assets/images/frame/navOn.jpg);}
    From what I can make out, I assume I need either Javascript or JQuery...
    Does anyone know how I can get the drop down to fade in and out?
    Thank you very much and I hope to hear from you.
    SM

    Yes, you'll need a client-side script to do fade-in/fade-out fx.  Look at jQuery Superfish.
