How do I get snow leopard to install on my MBA 1.1

I seem to have lost my retail snow leopard disc (I have the box, but no disc inside) so I've been trying all my discs from other macs bought from that era with other versions of Snow Leopard (10.6.3, 10.6.6, 10.6.4, etc.).  None of these will install on my gen 1 macbook air (1.1, 1.8ghz, 2GB RAM), every one of them gives me an error saying that this version of OSX can't be installed on this machine.
I'm trying to do the installation via an external Bluray/DVD combo device.  I can boot from each disc, but I get an error after the language screen.
What am I missing?  Are the discs that come with machines keyed to that class of machine?  (e.g. 10.6.2 packaged with an iMac won't install on a macbook, etc.)
I really don't want to "acquire" a new retail disc image, since I really don't trust that community, but I'm not sure there are many other options.
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!

Because it was the newest, greatest thing at the time.   Of course, I waited a bit... I never buy .0 releases. Frankly, same reason I have retail discs for most versions of apple's os offerings over the years, just keeping my systems up to date.
Honestly, when it came out, I balked at the app store and the fact that I had to make all my purchases through there, but now I kinda wish it'd been around back then. I'd have easy quick access to a binary I could install off a memory stick.
Here's the deal: I had a mother in law looking for a laptop for an upcoming trip, a friend with an old macbook air (v1.1) he didn't want anymore, and the ability to put the two together. The only problem is getting the air up to a version that can run a newer version of chrome for compatibility with the education program she's working with online.
I can probably get it running on safari... we haven't checked yet.  It may not be horrible to be stuck on 10.5.8.  We'll see how it shakes out.
Anything is better than the G4 iMac flat panel (the desk lamp model) she's using right now at home. It's pretty, but I'm shocked it still runs.  A testament to Apple quality if I ever heard one.  That thing is at least 12 years old.

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • How can I get Snow Leopard running

I have a 13'' Macbook that was running perfectly fine - I haven't had one issue since I bought it.  I bought the iphone 5 and needed to upgrade my itunes to version 7.  I was running Leopard 10.5.8 and needed to upgrade my OS to Snow Leopard in order to get itunes.  I ordered the software (10.6.3) and installed it on my computer.  The installation said it was successful.  I restarted my computer but I received a blinking folder with a question mark on it so I googled some solutions to see what could have gone wrong because the installation was successful.
I have tried holding c, option, resetting the pram, disconnecting my battery and pressing the power button for 5 seconds, erasing my HD drive, restoring the HD drive with a Time Machine Backup, and everything else I was told to do but I can not get my computer up and running.  If I restart it, I keep receiving the blinking folder with the question mark.  I'm not sure how it can not recognize a OS when I go to Startup Disk, it lists my OS being 10.6.3.  When I boot the computer from the dvd, it just continues to ask me to install the software each time and I'm going in circles.
Can someone please tell me what to do?  It seems that Apple doesn't know what to do, my hard drive was repaired (it wasn't broken), and the installation is going through sucessfully, why can't I get my computer running?
HELP!  I'm a photographer and graphic designer and can't afford to be out of commission.  All I did was install a software, this shouldn't be this difficult.
    Thanks!

  • I am using Leopard but need  Mountain Lion for the Mac App Store.  How do I get Snow Leopard to be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I am currently using Leopard but need Snow Leopard to be able to get Mountain Lion. I can see this is no longer available from Apple.  How would I get it so I could then get Mountain Lion. I want the Logic 9 Mac App Store App as I don't want to have to buy the whole Logc 9 from Studio 8.
Some help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?

  • Can not get Snow Leopard to install on my MacBook Intel 2GHz (circa 2006)

I get to about the 33 minute mark in the Snow Leopard install and then my screen goes to a dark grey and then I get a message saying there has been an error and the install can not proceed. This is a purchased Snow Leopard 10.6.3 disc from Apple. It worked fine on my iMac and another MacBook. I have tried resetting the PRAM and verifying the disk and repairing permissions (as per other board discussions). But still nothing. Does this disc limit the number of computers you can put it on? Help! Getting frustrated!!

No. The single user retail disc and family pack retail disc both allow infinite number of installs. (Not according to the licensing agreement on the single user disc, but Apple uses the honors system).  That is all I can input.  Good luck.

  • How can I get Snow Leopard to upgrade my MBP?

I have a MBP dated 2008. I am very pleased with it, but some Software upgrades now required a higher version. I am not sure that Lion would be worth using it. Any how, I do need first to move to Snow Leopard. Where can I get it.

Before you buy anything, first make sure your Mac is compatible.
Minimum specs for Snow Leopard.  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -        Read the Technical Specifications
Note.  You can no longer buy Snow Leopard from an Apple retail store, only as follows.
If you are in North America ... Last I read, you must call them (1-800-MY-APPLE). It is $29 plus tax for family pack and $19 plus tax for the individual use version.
In Europe or otherwise … call your National Apple Helpline … http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Once you have bought and upgraded you will need to apply the Combo updater for Snow Leopard.          Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
If you expect to go further check that your machine is Intel based.

  • How can I get Snow Leopard installation from Greece?

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook 4.1 13"inch (2008) currently running OS X 10.5. I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard but the problem is that I cannot find anywhere in Greece to buy the installation disk. There is no greek Apple store, the rest of Apple stores do not ship to Greece.  I really to need to buy the upgrade but I cannot find a way to accomplish.
    Thanks in advance.

If your local dealers no longer have copies, then unless you have a friend or relative in a country that has an Apple Store who could buy a copy for you, you'll need to look for private sellers.
    Regards.

  • If I have a MacBook Pro with Leopard on it. How do I get Snow Leopard so I can upgrade to Lion and Mountain Lion?

I cannot find Snow Leopard to buy so I can upgrade eventually to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro with Leopard on it.

    Glad to help.
Next, some PPC applications that were supported in Leopard and SL will not run because ML does not have Rosetta.  Read this table to see if you have any applications that will not run: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also, pardon the possible insult but: BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP
Many have decided to go back from ML (not questioning their decision, just saying they do), and with no solid image of what they had, they have a long road of re-construction ahead.

  • How do I get Snow Leopard to display 256 color?

I am attempting to run the applications Fallout and Fallout 2 on my 13" screen MacBook Pro, and each of these requires 8-bit color support. When I open the application, a normally colored small window appears for a couple of seconds, plays some music, and continues to the main game.
However, once it does that, the majority of the screen goes white, while maybe the left 1/4th of the screen displays the game, and all of the colors are kaput. This renders the games unplayable. According to the internet, these apps require 8-bit color, which doesn't seem to be supported anymore. I find it hard to believe that there is not a fix for this anywhere in existance.
If there is a fix for this out there, I would be grateful if you let me know. Also, I don't know much about the MacBook, and step-by-step instructions would be nice. Thank you.

Just came across this today, however I can't attest to anything about it, use at your own risk.
    http://www.madrau.com/indexSRX4.html
Also the 13" doesn't have a video card (it's only integrated graphics) and it only scores 11 points on Cinebench.
The 15"/17" score 30 and 45 points because they do have a video card and can 3D game.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
So your problem may also be that as well.
You can try two free 3D games that likely can run well on such a poor video performance machine.
Nexiuz Classic and Cube 2 Sauerbraten, both free.
In fact I can run both of these at 40-50 fps in Windows 64, in a virtual machine program in OS X, but then I've got a powerful vidoe card.

  • Anyone Figured Out How to Get Snow Leopard Working on a Retina 15" ?

    Hi All,
Has anyone figured out a way to get Snow Leopard to install and run stable on a Macbook Pro 15 Retina?
Just like Lion, Mountain Lion is flaky, and just isn't as rock solid as Snow Leopard.
Media, Finder, and a host of other system level attributes that were perfect in Snow Leopard are buggy in Mountain Lion.
Examples: Finder is weird now, and 19 full length movies that played perfectly in Snow Leopard under iTunes and my iPhone were wiped from my iPhone and deemed "not compabitle" under Mountain Lion.
As I posted when Lion came out, sometimes different is not better, it's just different. I now wish I hadn't sold my '09 Macbook Pro 17 to buy my Retina 15.
The big obstacle, of course is the fact that the Snow Leopard install doesn't have the correct drivers for video and other subsystems for my new Retina 15.
So, anyone figured out a work around?
    Thanks,
    Mark

You have got to be kidding if you think Windows 2000 was the most stable and bug free. And it quickly aged itself out of business and you could not connect any peripherals that appeared 2 years after its release. I think Windows 7 is far more stable and my second choice would be Windows XP.
Mountain Lion is running just fine on my late 2011 MPB and running fine on my 2 friends who have the rMBP. And they like to rub it in that they both have the rMBP.
And most people who rate such things claim Tiger was the most stable. You should have seen all the threads here with complaints about SL when it was released.

  • How to get snow leopard 10.6 on black macbook?

I have a 2008 black macbook that is stuck on 10.5.8. I tried to download things to update to yosemite however it needs to be on 10.6 to work. This is frustrating because I cannot download and use update browsers, final cut pro x or microsoft word packages. I downloaded snow leopard, but whenever I try to open it I get "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.6." which is what I am attempting to update to so I'm lost on that. How can I get snow leopard 10.6 on this early 2008 black macbook?

You need to buy it on DVD.

when i try to install snow leopard with install disk, it has me restart the computer instead of installing. can anyone help me figure out how to get the disk to actually install?

Ok, it's just a glitch that it's not auto-rebooting from the disk.
Please backup your personal files off the machine to a regualr external drive and disconnect all drives before doing anything
Take the 10.6 disk out and clean and polish the bottom with a very soft clean cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to cut the oils.
Stick the disk in and reboot holding c key down, this will make it boot from the disk and you can install Snow Leopard that way.
