How do I get songs/photos from ipod to a new computer ???

I have a ipod video that is loaded with all my songs and photos. My computer died and I had to buy a new one( OS = XP Home ). How do I transfer all my songs and photos from my ipod to my new computer ? Or do I have to load all of my cd's over again ? I have tried on my own and cant figure it out and I dont want to risk loosing everything off of my ipod.

Make sure that autosync is disabled in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, set up your account, connect your iPod and right click on it in the device list. Choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought music from iTunes to your new iTunes library.
If you want to use this computer to sync your device, right lick again in the device list and choose "backup"
This will perform a manual backup without the sync process. Set up at least one contact and event on your computer, to be able to merge data after your device got erased during the first sync.
Use the manual backup to restore your data and settings again.

I still use my iPod 30gb Classic from 2005 but the computer with which I made the syncs is broken and I got myself a new one. I wanted to save the music files from iPod to the new computer with iTunes so that I have another backup if this iPod should get broke in the future. But I could not backup the music files, somehow. How it was originally designed by Apple is you store your music in iTunes on a Mac or a PC. you back up your computer. you add to your library through the computer. you then sync to ipod classic. it was never intended to move music back the other way unless you purchased the music from iTunes store.
If your compuetr breaks you restore iTunes library from computer backup.
in many cases music is reduced in size and quality to 128kbps on sync so backwards sync would lose library quality.
finally, it avoids people illegally sharing music, or stealing music from lost or stolen ipods.
to backwards sync you will need to either get into the risky business of third party software, or find a PC running Linux and Rhythmbox and ask again. I probably said too much.

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If this is on the same computer just install PSE 12. It should find your old catalog and upgrade it to PSE 12. If for some reason it doesn't, then go to file>manage catalogs, find your old catalog and tell PSE 12 to convert it.
If this is a new computer, then yes, full backup and restore.

In iTunes you can choose to use a folder for photos rather than iPhoto.
I have a folder in Pictures called iPhone, and I export to subfolders of this. These subfolders become albums in the Photos application.
I have a preset setup to give me 760 long edge photos, sRGB at quality 80.
If you want to be even lazier about it, you could set up an Export Preset folder called iPhone and create a preset for each folder. So you could make a preset called Friends that exports to the subfolder Friends. (this is then an album called Friends on the iPhone)
Export the photos you want on the iPhone and then sync via iTunes.
