How do I get Spaces to show?

I had Mountain Lion installed shortly after launch.
Since Leopard I've been using Spaces and I had the middle mouse button assigned to it. Needless to say I got addicted on the simple way of switching between two groups of tasks:
Is it still rendering/building/uploading? (middle-click) Yes. (click) Continue scrolling facebook/edit photos etc.
This setup worked with mid-button until yesterday when I installed an OS update and Xcode and made my machine a developer machine. After restarting the mid-button Spaces was gone and instead I'm offered the very useless Mission Control, which shows me all app windows on one space but doesn't let me see other spaces and I have to use the keyboard to switch to the other spaces.
Lion and Mountain Lion had deficiencies in their implementation of Spaces - one couldn't drag things around easily between spaces, esp on multi-monitor setup. But completely removing it is downright obnoxious on Apple's side. Even more so when it's replaces with something even more misguided, such as mission control.

There is a bug, my machine's installation is most likely messed up because in Mission Control Spaces exist but aren't drawn. Dragging windows around while in mission control made some of them "disappear" and show up on onther spaces. Weird.

Stuff into other spaces?

Invoke spaces, then invoke Exposé (or the other way around; either works).
You can also drag to the dock icon and hit the spacebar to open show the app.
You can also enable a 'hidden' dock preference to always spring open dock items:
Defaults write com.apple.dock enable-spring-load-actions-on-all-items 1

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Authorizing a computer does not cause media to magically appear.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

It is marked as an audiobook in Options | Media Kind. It is also marked to Remeber Position, but it does not do that. How do I get it to show up under Audiobooks and remember the position? I've tried rebuilding the thumbnail database, but that hasn't helped.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Try moving the Zoom slider at the bottom of the iPhoto window all the way to the left. Does that let more than one photo display in the window?

If your Mac is new-ish and has one of the Lions as its OS, the drives, cards, USB sticks no longer show up, even though they're there. Go to Finder's Preferences and tick the corresponding items in the General and Sidebar tabs.

How can I get firefox to show everything from left to right, without a curser that I have to move, in win-xp?

It used to be ok. I had a firexox teeshirt from way far back, firefox 1.0. Then i had a hemorrhagic stroke, about 3 years ago. Now i'm back, in a new place, for two months now.
(I use my left hand now...) and once again, i have a desktop, with win-xp (and five internal harddrives, and a 600w ps.) Anyway, for the first time with my new desktop, there is a cursor in the bottom of firefox, and it doesn't show everything, left to right unless i move it.
I've been out of commission, with only a laptop, with win-7-64bit edition, that i got just 7 months before my stroke. My sister threw away all of my desktops...many of which i built. The doctor said i may die...so my sister didn't even wait, but threw away my CLOTHES AND BOOKS AND COMPUTERS (except for the laptop), but she saved most of my harddrives...i guess i taught her how to save harddrives.
Anyway, it's been three years, since i've had no 32bit computer with win-xp, and i can't figure out how to make things go back to the way i'm used to. HELP! Firefox 22 has a new way of setting the default zoom level: it is based on your Windows font size setting. So, if you set Windows fonts to 125% (enlarged 25%), your Firefox pages also will be enlarged 25%. On pages that do not adjust their layout, you may get a horizontal scroll bar.
To reduce the zoom on a page, hold Ctrl and tap the - key (the one on the numeric keypad or the one on the number row of the keyboard). The zoom should be reduced for each tap.
If you want to globally adjust your zoom level to be lower, you can use either of these add-ons:

This is Column view. When you select any item in any column, another column comes up on the right until an icon - with no content - is displayed in the far right column.

How do I get User to show Library then I can get to my long lost document?

The auto recovery dat should be in the Microsoft User Data folder in your documents folder, not in the Library. However, I Haven't had to look recently.

Just open the International preferences panel, go to Times, Customize, and click on the leftmost number (hours). A small triangle lights up, and a pop-up list of various formats opens. Just select the one you like (1-24 or 01-24). Make sure to set the Date & Time preferences to 24-hour clock first.
