How do I get the application to turn on when only the process does?

Question

Yesterday my firefox was working fine, but today when I click on either of my shortcuts nothing happens. When I open my task manager I see the the firefox.exe process has turned on but not the actual application. I've been trying to get it to work for two hours. I've restarted the computer 3 times but to no avail. I've also run AVG PC Tune Up which cleared registration errors, defragging, junk files and broken shortcuts with no improvement. I've also run a cache and cookie cleaner and still nothing.

What happens when you click Ctrl + N, does a new window open when the process is running?
If it is running and this does not show a new window, kill the process in the task bar and double click on the icon again to see if it opens. If not please try a clean reinstall.
