How do I get the directory to recognize my external hard drve...it used to

I have my Itunes library on an external hard drive. I would go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced, Browse, My Computer, find the hard drive, and it would appear as F:\My Music\Itunes and it worked great.
Now I have a new PC and it only shows F:\My Music and I am thinking because it is missing the slash and Itunes that is causing the issue.
Any ideas...........?

Also, um. Well it has a USB plug, but it also has 2 other plugs I can use (not USB, but for the other ports on the comp). What is firewire?

I own a 500GB Toshiba external hard drive, and I've been using it for months now, and up until today it's worked flawlessly. I never formatted it, I just used it as a mass storage device so that I wouldn't have compatibility issues with PC's because of the formatting. For some unknown reason, today the hard drive decided it didn't want to work; I can't see it in the Finder. However, I tried it on a PC today and it's just fine there. I've never disconnected it without ejecting it first or anything else that I can think of that might damage the drive. I'm at a total loss, though admittedly I'm a novice, so maybe there's something I'm overlooking here. What can I do to fix this problem?
Another thing: I just upgraded from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8... could that cause issues?

So I have a 500 gb iomega portable HD and it works fine when I plug it into my MacBook Pro and recognizes it right away on the desktop but when I went to plug it into my friends PowerBook or another's PC it never showed up as being recognized. It's not in the macs HD or the pcs "my comp". The blue light on the HD always came on.
I have a feeling I have to do something like formatting it or whatever, but I need like step-by-step instructions of what I need to do.

It is usually recommended that your keep a clone of your HD and your Time Machine backup on different drives.
You don't want your backup drive to fail and lose both your clone and your TM backup.
The answer to your question is to use Disk Utility to partition your drive. Again, you should have a backup of your drive before you partition it.
Launch Disk Utility, select your external drive > Partition > Resize the partition by sliding the tab at the lower right corner of the image > Create a new partition with the space that has been freed up.

One of the things I've found with OS X (at least with Snow Leopard, which is my first excursion into OS X), is that all too often the thumbnail displayed on a file, whether a file created or one downloaded, is a false thumbnail. That is, when you do a Get Info on the file the icon in the upper left is the generic icon for that file type, rather than the thumbnail displayed in Finder. Makes it a bit difficult to copy.
Apparently Finder uses Preview in the background to generate the displayed thumbnail without actually creating one.
What I've resorted to doing, particularly with graphic images, is to process them with GraphicConverter - I have its prefs set to automatially add thumbnails and previews. With an individual file this means opening it in GC and doing a Save As. However, a much easier and faster way is when there are two or more such files; I put them in a common folder and drop the folder onto GC. GC then opens them in a catalog view, in the process adding real thumbnails and previews to each automatically. Doesn't take long to do several hundred files that way.

First of all do you Mount or Unmount the card from the settings menu before pulling the card out of its slot? Nevermind, just, sort of answered my own question. Doesn't work on XP, but using a Win 7 'puter I was able to use Shutter Count, which now works w/ the 7D Mark II.

Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it.
