How do i get the new computer to recognize the metadata (ratings, album covers etc)

I have a computer that won't communicate with my network or ipods.  I need to wipe it but have been trying to get my metadata to the new computer i just got.  The music is on an external drive and works fine, but my metadata, ratings, covers, etc won't show up after trying to put them in the itunes file.  What should I do to make it work?

See this migrate iTunes library post.

  • How can we get a new computer to recognize photo folders on the iPhone so they can be deleted from the iPhone?

My wife has an old Windows Vista computer that is unable to operate the new IOS. I have installed iTunes on my Windows 7 computer and authorized the computer on iTunes. We are unable to delete/recognize photo FOLDERS from her iPhone 4 on my computer within iTunes. The only photos I can pull off her phone are being recognized by the windows system as a camera plug-in from her Camera Roll on the iPhone.

iOS does not operate on the computer.
If she has Vista, she can run iTunes 11 which is needed for iOS 7.

Do you want to delete the photos on the camera or copy them back to the computer?

  • How do I get my "new" computer to recognize my iPhone 4 as a primary device

I used my laptop(Vista) to back-up/update/sync/everything with my iPhone 4 but it recently died. On my desktop PC(Windows 7) I once used it for an iPod which has since been lost. I authorized my desktop, transferred purchases, backed the phone up and even tried restoring but got a message saying there wasn't enough space on my phone to do so. When I do sync, it will not sync any music from my library and keeps what's on the phone there.
I don't neccessarily want to wipe my phone with the chance of losing all my contacts, notes, photos, etc or download some third party software just to sync music because a design flaw. All the music on my phone had been transferred onto my laptop via flashdrive from my desktop.
Is there any simple solution to this?

OMG, I totally did not see the edit button at the top right corner of the Albums window/page.
Selecting that, then selecting the album BIKE brought up the RED button to the left of the album and ta-da, delete.
Sometimes I seek so hard I do not see.

  • How do I get the metadata for a page to show up when I Google search?

When I search for my website on Google, the description that shows up is the actual content of the page. I had it set previously to where the metadata for the home page would show up in the description. But now I edited the information in the metadata and that no longer shows up. I dont think I changed any other settings...what do I have to do in order to get the metadata to show up? Please help, thank you! (I tried attaching screen shots to this post but it wasnt responding...)

So if you have a folder with, say, 30 files inside it, the icon for the folder shows 30 tiny icons as the icon for that enclosing folder?  Doesn't seem too useful to me considering how small those icons would be.
I usually set a folder view with two to four large icons. The ability to see inside the folder makes it a breeze for cataloging and retrieving images, especially when I dont remember the date I photographed them.
I bought the Mac for graphics but this thumbnail interface is what makes Explorer so beautiful to work with. It appears from what I've read that the only way to have Finder compete with this as a catalogue tool is to actually hand create an individual thumbnail for each folder on the Mac. Does anyone know if this is painfully true and if so, is there a third party software known or does anyone out there actually know the secret to displaying folder contents on a Mac? Thanks.

  • How do I get my new laptop to recognize my home share?  It will not recognize my old laptop

I am having trouble getting my new HP laptop to recognize my itunes "homeshare".   My old laptop sees the new laptop, but my new one doesn't connect with the old laptop.  Any suggestions?

    Follow these steps:
1- Plug your iPhone into your laptop.
    2- Launch iTunes
3- After your device's been recognized, sellect it
4- Then go to the "Summary" tab, on the top of iTunes window just below the apple logo
5- On the "Options" sellec (put a check mark) on the "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" box
    6- Apply your change
That's it, from now on whenever you plug your iPhone into your laptop, iTunes will start automatically

  • How do I get my new MBP to recognize my old iTunes Library?

I've many hours into this, yet no success.
My 2008 iMac hard drive (2TB) went belly up for good. I have always added new OSX versions as they came along, right up to and including Mavericks. I had all my iTunes (over 1 TB) on this hard drive. No panic as I also have a daily SuperDuper back up of the entire iMac hard drive on a WD 2TB external HD (SuperDuper Clone OLD). I decide to replace the iMac with a brand new MacBook Pro Retina (256 GB, so obviously no room for iTunes Library), and a new WD 4TB external HD for the iTunes Library.
Wanting to do a fresh install on this new MacBook, unlike the 2008 iMac which had one install going right over the previous OSX. Now, I move the entire iTunes file from my old SuperDuper back up (SuperDuper CLONE OLD) over to the new WD 4TB external hard drive (iTunes NEW), drag and drop, nine hours later it has fully transferred.
I now fire up iTunes on the MBP, in the Advanced Pref I point the iTunes Media folder location to the new external HD:  /Volumes/iTune New/iTunes. I then shut down iTunes and restart it while holding down the ALT/OPTION key, pointing it to  iTunes Library.itl.
Yet this new iTunes Library on my 4TB WD external hard drive (iTunes NEW) does not show up with music. What does show up are a 3535 old PodCasts.
What am I doing wrong here?

    No.
It is a hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external drive situation.

    Don't do this...
But it really looks like you messed up something.
In the iTunes folder you seem to have all your music folders.
Your iTunes folder should have only these items...

  • How do I get my new copmuter to recognize my iphone so I can transfer files?

    Please help me!

    You're welcome.
    Not correct.
Under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, you have the option to transfer all music in your iTunes library, or select playlists, albums, artists, and genres.
If you restore your iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed and you are manually managing music, you must remember which music was available on your iPhone and manually drag each song back to your iPhone. The thought of that is so Windows and Android to me. With Sync Music selected, your selections for playlists, albums, artists, and genres is included with your iPhone's backup and will be selected automatically under the Music tab when restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup if wanted or needed - nothing manual - Windows or Android will be required. If you must reselect your playlists, albums, artists, or genres, much easier than manually dragging all music back to your iPhone.

  • I recently purchased a new computer and just downloaded itunes. I have an old iphone that has over 1,000 songs that I want to put on itunes. How do I get the songs on my iphone onto itunes?

Help! I just bought a new computer and am trying to get the songs from my iphone to itunes on the computer. My old computer that had all of origional songs on itunes crashed so all I have is my old iphone. How do I get the songs to go into my itunes library. I would like to purchase a new iphone and plan to load the songs on it after I can figure this out? Please Help?

Restore them to the new computer using the bakcup of the old one. If you don't have a backup of the old computer, you can re-download music purchased from the iTunes store. If they were imported from CD's, etc. You will either have to re-rip them or purchase third party software to extract them from the phone. The iPhone is not a backup or data transfer device.
