How do I get the sqauares to the left of my emails.

IE puts them there, but Firefox doesn't. Without the little squares I have to open the email in order to delete it. But, with IE, I just place a "check mark" in the box and all checked ones are deleted (without my every having it open them).
I'd like to be able to do the same thing with Firefox.

with Logic Exp open, go to audio and select "audio hardware and drivers" menu. Below the "enable" box you mentioned, there should be a "driver' menu box which, I suspect is set to 'alesis 1394'. Click the menu to select/change from 'alesis 1394' to core audio.
You'll get a reboot message - you then click right hand "try reboot" and this is how you change between analog and digital. ie do the same to reset back to your alesis and so on.
I'm presuming that this function is the same as Logic Pro because I can't imagine why it would be different.

Stripping off the user name will give you the domain of from field in the message. This is not the same as the host. Take a look at:

Now they open firefox but not the link itself. I've tried resetting firefox but no change. It works fine when I set safari as my default browser.

How do I get the preview back on email (right hand column)?

Viewing email- preview has disappeared. . I have used Mac Email for years. Suddenly, the third panel on the right of the page is gone. I used to have a visual preview and could see the complete message without clicking on it. I've gone through the preferences, settings, view settings, and manuals, and can't restore my favorite default. Any ideas? THX

As Barney says (thanks Barney) - hover the mouse in the area shwon on the image and you get a little left-facing arrow to drag and reveal the third panel. It's a bit fiddly, took me a couple of goes, but it does reveal the panel that's missing.

How do you get the indicator that marks emails as "read" to work properly?

Every time a new email comes in it's never marked as unread. The computer is on a wired network in an office where no other Mac users have this problem. The usual diagnostics have been performed and the computer seems normal in all other operations. Any ideas? The office geeks are stumped as well.

There's an option in Mail > Preferences > viewing tab > check "Display unread messages with bold font".

Just above the textarea that you use to enter the message text on the "Compose New Mail page" there is usually a button bar with buttons to add text formatting like Bold and Italic.<br />
That toolbar may also have a button to turn a text link into a clickable hyperlink (look for a chain like button).<br />
You can select the text and click that button to turn the link into a clickable hyperlink.<br />
If you can't find the button then hover them all to check the tooltip of each (e.g. Insert hyperlink).

Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

The Properties class is already a subclass of Hashtable. So if you have a Properties object, you already have a Hashtable. So all you need to do is the first part of that:Properties props = new Properties();

Delete the broken links in iTunes then look at your purchased list to redownload.
If this happened because you were deleting files from the iTunes folder in Finder, don't. You have to let iTunes do all the deleting and moving or you will end up with broken links.

Since that password is tied to his Apple ID, you will need to contact Apple; as far as I know, it will be a somewhat lengthy procedure and you will need to furnish necessary paperwork (including a death certificate as far as I know). Best to either stop at an Apple store or call them to find out exactly what it is you need to do.

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update" It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).
